Guys I hope they will let us merit like in FF11. I liked specializing my job, and making them more powerful. What do u guys think about that? I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

I think it's a long way off if it happens. There's probably upwards of five years before they raise the level cap as high as they ultimately plan to go.
If and when it does come, they better bear in mind the final level cap like they didn't do last time.
Merits weren't put in until like 3 years after NA launch. I think they'd have to find a reason to keep the level cap at a certain point for a long time to justify doing merits.
Hopefully they have a level cap raise every two years or so. I don't want to see another level 75 for 7 years debacle.
For those like myself that had to look up what Merits were....
What are Merit Points?
Once a character has reached level 75, you will have the option to earn limit points when defeating enemies, instead of Experience Points. Once 10,000 limit points are obtained, they convert into one merit point. Merit points are a type of "currency" used to "buy" extra enhancements for a character whose main job has reached level 75 or higher, though some merit categories will partially affect lower-level jobs.
i hope they do use this sytem
I don't see why they need merit points...when you hit 10+ you get bonus points to add to stats on top of stat boost gained by lvl...so Merits would be over doing it unless its to gain skills outside the normal lvling and job quest lines..other then that no its not needed
I'd rather have Square-Enix raise the level cap instead. Merit points = no thanks.
more grinding at cap. no thanks. i rather be doing things in game then doing a boring time sinking forever.
While i would like something like merit points i think i would like a system thats more flexible. Like for example rather than being locked into something you put points into, you instead equip things you earn and can swap different bonuses around depending on what content you are engaging in. And what other players around you have equipped. Kind of like the FFIX ability/trait system.
They can achieve that through materia. At least I would think.
I stopped XI when the cap was 75. Did they still give the option to earn Merit points at that level when they raised the cap? If so I wouldn't be opposed to it. It would give the capped players something do when they have powered through all LVL 50 content.
Maybe they would add it if endgame players have a hard time finding a party to gain exp. I don't know what endgame content would look like in ARR but I can accept level sync.
In FFXI, you only had your sub-job and merits to compliment your main job.
In FFXIV, you can unlock your job specialization, which gives you extra abilities. On top of that, the materia system is nearly limitless. You can boost various stats much higher than you could with merit system.
The bonuses are not the same, but they are similar. It would be extremely unnecessary to have both.
this is true and they still do it for max lvl jobs however jobs and classes both get updated versions of skills at certain lvls sso there is no need to upgrade more, I do support this for gains skills outside normal lvling skills and quested skills (However you don't get upgraded skill perks on other jobs/class then the base class/job or that how it was in 1.o don't know if they plan to change for ARR)
I hated merit grinding in XI; it was soooo long, sooo tedious D:
I wouldn't be opposed to seeing something like Borderlands 2 Badass Rank system though e_e... Complete a challenge, get a point to spend wherever, increase potency of skills by like 0.4% so you have to complete lots of little varied challenges to get anywhere instead of sitting around hitting your haste macro for 5 hours lol
Hi Nix!
Wasn't a lot a fun to do as a Paladin either :/. Scrambling to grab that next ogre and establish enough hate before the current one dies and insane SAMs just went all out. They certainly seemed to have a blast. If I held hate 1/2 the time I was surprised.
Nightmarish Flashbacks aside, the more I think about it the more I'd be down. Perhaps make it so Merit points can't be earned in FATE, instance, quest or leves. Then it would give players incentive to party camp and kill high level field mobs instead of running right past em. Speaking of grinds, I should quit posting and get back to work on Odinsphere.
Hey Desty!!
I was always so envious of the DD's, they really did have fun and were able to chat it up with their buddies while I was stuck hitting haste and cure III then freaking out over mp because the only bard couldn't/wouldn't keep ballad up on me haha so MP could be really scarce sometimes! oh well...
I wouldn't mind merits being obtained by FATE/leves etc, that sounds really fun!! Totally beats hitting the same macro set over...and over...and Oooooveeeerrrrr for 5 hours XD
Have a wonderful day Poplicola! (totally gonna keep calling you that til it sticks.. XD)
I loved merits in XI, yesplz.
yeah its using a fail system like a gimped modern mmo, still no reason you have to grind at cap to get new skills. back at version 1 launch we were able to gain new skills with guild marks thats still better then grinding 10000 mobs or quest.
FFXI merits aint a big deal you can hit lv99 in 1-2 days shows how broken that xp system became.
Hmmm interesting guys. I like the ideal of getting merit points via fates/leves... And yes merits enhanced your character in many ways. Which you could choose. I would love to see it return in ARR. lastly, yes I was a fully merited mnk, with a blk belt & a few other end game things in FF11. And had tons of fun killing mob and those pink birds lol.
