There is updates done to the armoury system as well. They took out Disciple of Hand and Land :(

I understand where you are coming from. I do feel that DOH and DOL are going to take less of a role in ARR than in 1.0. I know we will still be making gear and what not but the DOL seems to have lost the mini game altogether from the videos I have seen.

I do expect them to add the sections back in within 2 weeks as there should be a massive push on information before phase 3 as that is NDA lifting time and they will want to control the news themselves.

It really seems as though Yoshi doesn't have much respect for the crafting and gathering classes as classes at all... We're getting housing, which I expect to be about on par with a dungeon for a combat class in terms of amount of content so that's something at least. What about crafting quests and group crafting content though? And the same for the gathering classes?

Isn't there still Hamlet? I know it's not much, but when I think about it, for me it's kind of group crafting/gathering content. But I'd also appreciate new/more content for them.

Hamlet was much more combat based than DoH/L based, judging from what little I saw of it.

What I'd imagine a group crafting and gathering activity would be is more like a cave-in or fire or fallen tree, without any monsters in it. Just people creating tools and scaffolding and bandages and food and medicine, while gatherers worked their way through it by removing the obstacle and anyone who was free running in and getting the trapped NPC's out. That would be a group activity aimed at crafters and gatherers.

In hamlet, crafting and gathering always felt like an afterthought and it never seemed as though a full party of crafters and/or gatherers would be able to take it on without combat.

In theory, housing could be a group crafting job in itself, but more likely than not, one person with all our 50s could do it solo without any hindrance other than time.

I dunno. I'm a little worried about our ability to make artisan pieces of kick ass gear we'd be proud to have ourselves compared to the prized stuff in the raid zones(That would be hard, expensive to make, and require rubbing a lalafell's head mind you, but still possible)

At the end of the day, the combat system and economy will still be the most important thing to the MMO, and what people will come back to for progression. I want people to want crafters!

Took five years of everyone's life to imprison Bahamut in his backup spell. So Bahamut didn't continue ravaging Eorzea, but guess what? He's been draining aether all this time and the planet's in trouble. So now you have to tool up, seek the keys to his prison in the shattered remnants of Dalamud (Bahamut's Labyrinth), set him free and kick his arse once and for all.

And then wake up because it's all an Echo-dream.

There are a lot of ways to make people want crafters, and removing classes like fisher and miner are not required to do so. There just needs to be some re-balancing. Here are a few ideas...

1) Materia Materia Materia. Cannot say this enough. By soul-bonding with gear and breaking it down for materia, you are essentially turning gear into consumable quantities. Since different gear offer materia of different bonuses and strength, there should be demand for a wide variety of items.

2) Allotment of materials. Perhaps stopping by the alchemist's guild will earn you a daily allotment of free materials to work with. The materials you get would depend on your craft level and the amount you get would depend on your rank with that guild. To clarify, when I say guild I mean like... "The Blacksmith's Guild", not a player guild/linkshell/thing.

3) Ensure a wide variety of consumable items that will be in demand for each craft. Alchemists can pump out healing and mana potions, potions to provide buffs, etc... Clothcrafters and Armorcrafters can pump out gear for people to buy and soulbond with for valuable materia. Woodworkers can make housing furnature and specialty arrows (i.e. - ice arrows, sleep arrows, poison arrows...) that are consumable and better than the endless supply of base arrows. I think there is a way to make every craft valuable in this way.
