Where's your house going to be?

From the art they've shown all the housing areas look awesome, but I may go with Limsa just because it's on the beach xD

I'll tell you where, someplace warm... A place where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called... Limsa.

Limsa Lominsa.

I think I am moving from Gridania to Limsa Lominsa come launch -- the sea calls me home!

If this is the case, then I'll choose the Gridanian housing to appease Nophica, my matron.

Then again, could I really betray my city-state?

Im from Gridania but who cares i will live in the Limsa housing area becouse its on da beatch and it looks so tropical. Looks like a tropical paradise :P

Right now I'm also loving the beach front property of limsa.

I'll check out the other housing areas too, but limsa looks amazing (part of this could be that it's the only one they've shown in-game so far)

Gridania, of course! I could never leave my home. The latest artwork shown looked like we'll be living at the base of the Boyhada Tree. The pic also totally reminded me of The Hill (home of Bilbo Baggins).

I want mine in Mor Dhona.

Uldah. I want a house on a cliff overlooking a waterfall.

I want a van down by the river.

I have to say the concept art for all of them looks amazing, but my fierce loyalty to Limsa definitely makes it the front-runner. It looks like a cross between coastal Mediterranean and a resort in Bora Bora. DAT VIEW. If I had to pick a second though, it would be Ul'dah, it looks like it's pretty chill at the top of that cliff.

Ok so does anyone have an idea how purchasing a house is going to work out? Does the amount of gil determine where you can buy your house, are some areas more expensive than others. This could get interesting as the richest will probably end up with the prime RE.

Different sized plots of land will cost different amounts of cash (small, medium, large I think, could be labelled differently though).
Once all of one type of plot is taken in the zone, another housing instance will pop up. People will be able to get the land that they want. The price of the land also drops over time from what Yoshi has said; so if you wait it out you could get a house pretty cheaply but if you want it right away you'll have to pay for it.
Once you've got your land, I think you have to build the house (I'm not sure on this; the house could already be there and then you have to customize it's appearance if you wish).

The deeds can be traded between players too so if someone really wants to get rid of their house, they could sell it on to someone else :)

Yes and no. I was aware of most of what you mentioned but it just seems that this will create a mini sandbox where the intentions and plans of the developers may not turn out exactly how they anticipate, hence perhaps making some housing areas inaccessible to some people.

I have not seen anything that has changed my mind yet, so I still plan on having my house in Gridania.

If people are hell-bent on getting a certain plot of land, they just have to wait it out and it will come^^ There's no limit on instances etc so everyone should be able to get the land they want; it may take some longer than others but everyone should be able to get what they're after^^

Is there a source to back this up? I've not been reading into Housing too much, and this sounds promising!

Also, Gridania for me, as much as I love the beach. I've always wanted a woodland house, and as a Botanist and Carpenter it should be fun making my own furniture!

My first house will be in Limsa.
Though I plan to own a house in every city.

For the people asking how housing work. Remember yoshi-p said it be a while before anyone can even have access to them. He said the quest going to take long but not sure how long in his eyes seeing how so many things are casual in the game.

Funny how nobody could stand Limsa in 1.0 and now everyone wants a house there. :P

I'm Limsan through and through, so my house will be there.

A: The image that we just showed was concept art for the Limsa Lominsa housing area. We’ve been working on mock-ups, and you can see a dummy house right here. This house is just a placeholder we’re using to check house sizes and such, and it’s not an actual design. In this picture, you can see a wider view of the same area. There are several areas where players can build houses, and a large open area. Basically, there will be three different types of housing areas areas: desert, forest, and sea. Here we have the concept art for the forest housing area. This isn’t finalized, of course. We’ll publish more information as soon as we can.

Players will first choose an area they prefer and then purchase land there. Kind of like “I like this spot!” Once they purchase the land with gil at the signboard, players will buy the right to build a house there.

Once players have constructed a basic house, they can open a special housing widget to browse and purchase housing materials, such as roofing. You could also commission crafters to build roofing, which could then be equipped, in a sense, onto your house to change its external appearance. You can even hang tapestries on your walls. So that’s basically how you can change your house.

The yard… I shouldn’t show anymore actually… As I mentioned previously, houses will also have yards where you can place objects. For example, if you place a chocobo stable in your yard, you will be able to raise several chocobos there.

There will be updates dedicated specifically to the housing system. Content won’t end with a single release; we plan to introduce new features, such as additional ways to play with your yard. Additionally, players will be able to drag and drop objects within their house easily, in both the PC and PS3 versions. We’re working hard to create a very flexible system.

Houses can be used as headquarters for linkshells and Free Companies, and they can eventually be expanded to allow individual rooms. To prevent disputes over land, housing areas will be instanced. After the maximum number of houses are sold in one instance, players will be asked to purchase land in a different one. More instances will be added as necessary.

Also, land will be available in small, medium, and large sizes. Certain structures will require huge tracts of land to build.

We should be able to provide more details near the conclusion of the Beta Test.

A lot of Limsa. I'm really not all that surprised though. I've loved Limsa since the very first Beta.

I'll be migrating from the hustle and bustle of Ul'Dah to the easy livin' of Gridania. I'll trade the desert for the woods anyday in 2.0.

Buh, all of the concept art appeals to me! Guess it's time to look into timeshares.

Gridania ^^ and if there will be a way to get another house somewhere else, and it would happen that i have enough gil...Uldah ^^

We keep seeing nothing but Gridania so it starts to grow on you a bit which is probably why they focused in on the black shroud since it was the least liked during 1.0.

I still really need to watch the tour of Eorzea that they released. Sometimes at work I get all day to do whatever, and other times I can barely sit down, so that was one of the days where I didn't and never watched it again >.<

Thanks to both of you! Looking forward to it. That suggests that individual housing still has to be a part of Free Company Housing though? Was hoping to have my own house, especially since I think my LS is going to build in Limsa.

Housing will be available for both players AND free company^^ (woo!)
though I -think- that it's being released for FC only at first, then players a time after? Not sure if they have changed this though. I'll only be buying a personal house; I won't split ingame assests with anyone unless they are within punching distance irl haha XD
