PS3 is already considered an outdated product. They got the PS4 question though and their answer was that they want as many people as possible to enjoy ARR but right now they are only focusing on getting the game out on PC and PS3.
I hope it's something Square Enix will keep in mind down the line when the PS4's install base grows.
Going by the specs alone, it would probably be on par with the PC version.
Hmm i say u can find the answer just by searching two-three same topics
Ps3 will run at 30 percent of max I'm sure ps4 will support it and be able to run it maxed
If the PS4 was is backward compatible we should be able to play ARR on it, but as far as I know it isn't. (Really? why are so many companies so keen on discarding selling points like that and split screen multiplayer?)
sony ran out of ideas for the ps4 they just said the hell with it just just take a vaio and patch PS4 on it.
atleast MS & nintendo thought outside the box. MS building there system around technology like building there graphics to use real raytracing & nintendo going to the ways to use there controller.
I have not seen any detailed specs on the ps4 or the xbox 720 yet. Not sure if the actual specs are out, only thing I seen was a few demos, controller and release year.
But those things aside, and this is my opinion, If a person has a good PC, and they are in the market for a console, they are better off getting the ps4, over the xbox, reason being is most xbox games can be bought for the pc version, all though a lot of playstation games are also on the PC, regarding the ps4 interviews, there will be A LOT of ps4 exclusive games that will not be out on the PC version or xbox 720.
Well the same thing happened with Dragon Quest X. They released it so late on Wii that the next console was close and they so there is a Wii U version out next month. It certainly makes sense for them to release the game on PS4. It doesn't make sense to talk about it now though as it may hurt sales of the PS3 game.

If you read the interviews (both gaming site interviews and 'SE sponsored stuff like the Live Letter), the 'what Yoshi P isn't saying is basically this. It would only hurt SE's PS3 audience if they said 'we're planning on releasing it on the PS4 as well...' Not only that, they probably have contracts with Sony that require them to not say certain things. Again, if you read between the lines on some of the gamer site interviews, Yoshi more or less says 'what I can say about it is... or I can't comment on that at this time' type of things.

GE- You mentioned rumors of next-gen and how you hope the graphics will stay up to date. Does that mean you’re looking at future versions of the game on something like PS4 or that you just hope to upgrade the (PC) graphics as the game goes on?
Yoshida- First of all, I can’t really make any comments specific to PS4 since it hasn’t been announced.
As we promised the players, we focused on the PS3 version and we’re getting a lot of support from Sony as well to reach the limits of the PS3. And we have the PC version so it’s quite easy to upgrade the graphics even if the other console has the higher spec. Because we have the windows version it shouldn’t be a problem to bring higher quality to the console. We’re making everything from scratch and that’s the big challenge we’re doing- a first in the world of MMORPGs. Whenever there are other consoles we will do our best. We want to get this game out to as many people as possible, so please use your imagination of how we might go about it.
They promised to release this game on PS3. Even if PS4 is slated to be out soon, the reality is, the elevated costs of a new system+lack of games for it mean there will be only a handful of PS4 gamers. Now 2-3 years down the road, it might makes sense to look into porting to PS4. But really, now is so not the time if the goal is keeping promises, keeping people's faith in your brand high, and building a large subscription base.
I have to agree with Abriael, you have no idea the level of optimization developers get from using an established Architecture. Also Microsoft used off the shelf parts for the 360 and will probably do the same for their next console; considering most of the leaked information suggests not only are they using off the shelf parts but most of their tech is identical to the PS4.
More on topic, considering the ps4s Architecture and the fact the game is already on PC and PS3, it should be much easier to port to PS4. They also said the new game engine thats based on the luminous engine is really scalable, so i think we can expect a PS4 port.
Aye they said they're focus is just just fulfilling their initial promises then they would go from there, however with the PS4 claiming to have a x86 architecture processor instead of the PS3's cell based processor it should be much easier for them to port FFXIV over to the PS4 than it was for the PS3.
Actually, making PS4 more accessible to developers was probably the smartest move Sony has made in a long while.
That way it will cost less to port games over from the PC and less to develop exclusively for, which will more than likely lead to a LOT more exclusives. I'm going do have to disagree with you on this one.
Well considering Sony only stopped producing the PS2 in January 2013. I'd say PS3 still has a lot of life left in it! lol
Silly OP making silly posts about the end of the world. err. console. ;)
They said the same thing about the PS3! Yet, it wasn't quite enough ;0
PS4 is better as far as catering to developers, but only the software developers can tell you for sure. The ONE good thing about the PS4 is it's massive amounts of memory. It's a huge jump from 512MB!
256MB Main memory and 256MB graphics. it's surprising it could handle HD! lol
People compare console specs to PC but thats a mistake, its not the same thing; a PC would never be able to run games like the ps3 with 256mb, let alone run Win7. Based on what developers have said so far, they all claim the PS4 is really easy to develop for so thats a good thing. The thing is, when PS3 was developed, not only did it use a new architecture but there was no real manual to use the tools, so early developers had a hard time. Based on what developers have said about PS4, not only is the architecture easy to use but Sony seems to be providing support for their tools this time around, which in return makes coding for the ps4 a lot easier.
Not sure I follow your argument because I agree with you :)
I haven't seen anything about the PS4 being easier to develop for other than what Sony has said. And well, that's kinda biased lol. If our talking about the developer's at Sony's Press conference? Well Sony pays them to be positive towards Sony at such things! Need a 3rd party opinion.
I only mentioned specs to show that the PS3 to PS4 memory was a HUGE leap in it's capabilities! I mean 512MB to 8GB is huge. And 8GB is the now average budget PC amount of memory. I make a comparison to PS4 to PC because, again, it points out how much of a leap consoles are making! It's basically a (at this point in time) a high end PC!
Which was the same thing when PS3 came out. (except the memory).
This is why I say the memory size IS a big deal in the console wars! It has limited what the consoles could do up until now!
Plus it's foolish to say that Sony didn't provide tools for the PS3. They did, that didn't get around the difficulty software developers had in programming for it!
So I'm a tad skeptical when Sony "says" that it's easier to develop for.
But hey, I'm a Sony fan too. I'm not dogging them. It's just the same song and dance we have all heard before.
In 2 yrs time PC's will have caught up to consoles and the cycle will continue all over again! (Queue the PC is dead for gaming debates) lol
Not really. It's simply factual. Developing for a piece of kit that has the same architecture, or very similar, as a PC is factually easier and much less costly than developing for one that has a very different an unique architecture.
I elaborate more here if you're interested:

Lol i was not quoting you to argue your point, i was quoting you to use what you said about the memory and developing easy to make my point. With all the bickering on forums these days, people seemed to have forgotten that you can quote someone when you agree with them too^^
In regards to developing easy, there have been some interviews with developers who have worked with the dev kit who claim the x86 architecture makes it so much easier to develop for compared to the Cell.
It took a minute for the PS3 to pick up anyway, so I'm sure FFXIV will do fine on the PS3 until they're ready to port it over to the PS4.
If your calling it a PC because it has a motherboard, cpu, ram, gpu and soundcard then technically all consoles are PC. What makes PS4 different from past consoles and more similar to PCs is the architecture it uses, the x86. This is a PC architecture which has been well developed over the years, hence the ease of use for developers. How everything will be utilized is what counts though and this is where consoles differentiate themselves from PC. Ram and GPU for example is utilized differently in a console, hence why you can run the amazing PS3 games on a 256mb gpu, a Standard PC won't be able to do that.
Now imagine next gen console specs, such as 8 cores and 8gb ram, an architecture that has been well established over the years and console utilization. if 256mb dedicated memory can produce games like Uncharted, GoW, MGS and Last of us, imagine the possibilities next gen can do. Now this does not mean launch games are gonna be a huge leap in graphics, if anything i think it will be the least impressive jump in terms of graphics compared to past generations but it outlines possibilities developers can use.
This is true. Graphics can't get much better than what we see now as far as realism goes.
What developers can do is push more poly's. Which means we'll see more trees, objects, on the screen at the same time.
Better explosions, more leaves on tree's and dare I say it? Grass. lol Please look forward to it! ;)
Ooh, think about it, if your playing on the PS4 and somebody in your party is tanking wrong, I wonder if you can take away the controls and do it for them...
If so I say welcomed news!
