Characters sliding on the ground... Will it be fixed for the release? Dev please?

Just wondering if it'll be fixed for the release, cause in alpha videos and old live letters it was present, but ppl said: oh it's just alpha, it will be fixed for the beta.

Now we've seen beta footage from the live letter and the "sliding" it's still very.. VERY persistent... :mad:

It's really a shame IMHO for a "triple A" MMO like FFXIV, expecially considering that one of Yoshi's goal is the best graphics among all the mmos...

I never seen so much sliding on the ground even in the worst of F2Ps ...
Even FFXI or the old XIV didn't have this issue...

I care because the game has high quality standard for graphics, but that sliding on the floor is terrible :/

Doesn't look to be lag and looks more like how the engine is handling animations currently for other clients. You stop on your screen but on theirs it still show you running in place/sliding on the ground.

Exactly , and it's really a shame because they did a wonderful job on any other aspect of the engine...

I swear you people are going to complain about anything these days. What you should care about is the game play but of course most just want LOOKS to be good. I could care less as long as it isn't easy mode.

Likewise, it seems some people will accept anything and call it a day even though that's more detrimental than raising concerns. There is nothing good about that kind of animation when MMOs much older than this are more refined in that regard with lower graphical capabilities. The concern brought up was that it really doesn't look right to slide around and run in place like that when you've come to a stop or are coming to a stop.

It's obvious it's due to lack of optimization but some people rather get clearcut answers and there's nothing wrong with that. Did you also like how mobs had seizures when you attacked them? Someone asked about it and guess what? We got an answer that the flinching will be toned down and look at it, it is.

BTW is it just me, or do characters move just a tad too fast?

I was laughing my ass off when I actually seen someone ask yoshi if monsters will take fall damage hahahaha. Dude what 10 yr old asked this? hopefully the endgame is a bit more glamorous. Plus yoshi did say you won't need very good gear until you hit 50 hmmmmmm now im worried.

you didn't need it in 1.0 either...i did fine with lv35 NM gears until 50. Stats didn't matter much until you had high DPS weapon, and good armor. Since you lv kinda quickly, you don't need to spend a lot of time pre-50, so there's not much point in making tiers of gear for that, when you can go through it in a week or 2.

That was kind of funny, I mean, I get in FF games some monsters could hurt themselves but, all you'd have to do is gather up monsters, throw yourself off the highest ledge possible, have them follow, then nuke em down with 1 AoE nuke as it'd take off a sizable chunk of their HP when they hit the ground.

I think it was a question more for wanting more easy kills in the game sadly >.>

If it's any consolation, I noticed it, and it bothered me too.

Characters legs continue to move when the character itself comes to a stop.

I hope the animations get fixed or the client lag, or whatever it is, because it's distracting and noticing it makes it less enjoyable for me.

Sprint = Fast

Definitely some kind of latency issue in terms of telling the client that the character shouldn't be running when they aren't moving anymore - used to see it quite a bit back in the good ol' days of World of Warcraft, so hopefully they can iron that out over the course of the Beta test.

Between complaints like this and the complete anti-progressive mentality that this forum has, I'm actually kind of surprised that the game is getting a relaunch. Half the topics are complaining about some minor graphical glitch, inconsistency, or completely subjective art direction; and the other half are complaining about completely minor gameplay effects like backpedaling.

Are you guys in the forum sure you don't actually just want a CGI movie?

on a side note, the legacy movement options seem promising.

Yea I don't know what to think anymore. I'm sure somebody will have a problem with the baby chocobo's and such being too little or people will ask why they don't get a haircut option for the baby Behemoth. ><

while i get tired of the sensationalism and dramatics revolving around things we haven't yet seen or experienced, or stupid things like grass... the ice skating thing *is* something i can agree needs to be fixed before launch. like, really, really needs to get fixed before launch. seriously. it looks awful. make it stop.

It needs to get fixed, it's really unrealistic, it breaks immersion and look dumb.

I also have to agree both that there are really some silly complaints and that the movements need to be refined or fixed. The running in place is something reviewers are going to key in on.

But the silly little complaints do distract from the real issues, and this is one.

Fix it please.

Forget the sliding, didn't you guys see the grass?! GRASS!!!! All that matters is the grass. NOTHING ELSE!

Most people aren't going to notice. That being said, it's almost certain to be improved when they get around to it. probably only spescific cases when it happens.

I'm not sure you can fix it. It's the Internet Yo. Bad things happen on sending data across huge distances by UDP!
Bad servers, bad hardware, bad routers and switches. it doesn't have to be Square's equipment either!

UDP - Reliability: UDP is connectionless protocol. When you a send a data or message, you don't know if it'll get there, it could get lost on the way. There may be corruption while transferring a message.

TCP - Reliability: TCP is connection-oriented protocol. When a file or message send it will get delivered unless connections fails. If connection lost, the server will request the lost part. There is no corruption while transferring a message.

Server data from you to the server is usually UDP so that if a packet is lost, your not "rubber banding" back to your original position because your missing data and the server requests the packet again. Nope it's UDP because if information is missing you keep going and moving forward. However a side effect is running in place and possible sliding on the animation side of things because things may not get updated in a smooth order.

Playing on wireless can do this as well. Like I said it's a far better solution than being yanked back to your position you were at 1-3 seconds ago! Far less annoying, even if it may b e a tinge unsightly visually. But that's okay with me.

It's the nature of the internet., what you going to do? I will say that regional servers will go a long ways it making it happen less often!

I remember them mentioning that the animation blending wouldn't be completely until some later portion in the Beta.

THAT SAID, now is Beta time, which means it's about the right time for you guys to drop on all the complaints you got. I trust the rep staff enough to weed out the idiocy and the dev staff enough to know when we are showing our sub-standard IQ requesting things when we really wish something else, so feel free to continue whining.

Just keep in mind that they HAVE forewarned us that animation blending isn't complete just yet

I think more people need to get their eyes checked if they won't notice people riding an invisible bike on their screens when someone come to a stop.

wada has pointed out before during a live letter that a character was walking in place, so its probably on the table of things to adress; whether they tell us when or if they are going to fix it... :/

Ahaha, if the boss tells you something is off during a public live transmission i'm fairly sure it gets at least to the bottom of the stack of problems to solve, if not to the top of it.

This isn't going to be the only option of movement. Yoshi mentioned in the video (and showed it) you can change it to the old 1.0 movements. Where you press backwards and you turn around instead and no gliding gumby style.

So just switch to the Legacy movement like I plan to. Problem solved.

I don't like the running in place. It looks completely ridiculous. It'd be hilarious if not for the fact that it seems so entirely out of place in a FF game.

think it was for phase 3 were they said they were implementing the graphical fixes etc. (wanna say it was on one of the last letters or the revamped roadmap, but cant remember which) It does look pretty bad atm though :P characters look like they have no weight and are just being moved around by wind.
