Was this ever explained?

Just a few questions from 1.0 that I never found the answers to:

1) What was the voice we heard in the begining cutscene: Hear... Feel... Think...

2) In the Limsa Lominsa story, there was a big freak out in a cutscene because you held your gun all gangsta style... what was that about?

3) What happened to my companion? Any word about getting our companions back in ARR? Or do we assume they died at the end .... ;_;

Questions 1 and 2 can be answered by reading the CG Midlander thread. It's quite extensive to explain along with the background events leading up to it, but perhaps Moosy or Catapult can give a condensed answer.

Question 3: I do believe Yoshi-P stated that the companion idea would be "taking a break", but that they may be introduced again at a later time.

Judging from the last main scenario cutscene though, it looks as if after the battle with Gaius, your Path companion departs in his own search for "the power" your circle member mentions.

1) I thought it was something to do with our ability to see things, which some speculated was given by a primal (I think because Ifrit said we were touched already). Though I want to think it had something to do with the lodestone.

2) I dont speak Iermapeerate Limsanese

3) They are gone for the time being but Yoshida said they may add them back later, so for now just think of them on a long vacation :D

I can answer #2 for you: You were holding your gun like a 'pirate' does, the Barracudas are trying to keep 'pirates' out of their ranks.

#2 I have no idea, as I never did the LL storyline, but #1, isn't it obvious? It's Susan Calloway giving the player the Echo. ;)

Seriously though, I assumed it was supposed to be whatever member of the Twelve granted the Echo to the player - an interesting retcon to this was those few lines of Answers were similar to the 'Dalamud Answers' version that much later replaced all BGM in the lead up to the game's original shutdown (maybe that singing was that deity singing through the Echo?). Or maybe I'm just reading to much into it.

#3: well, the last you hear about them is that they retired to the Alchemist's Guild to heal their wounds after their run in with Gaius during Future's Perfect, so anything could have happened to them really. In any event, I really hope Yoshi-P brings them back in ARR, as I really liked the idea of having an NPC along for the ride in those quests.

It actually wasn't Susan Calloway's voice in those spoken parts >.> Not that I've obsessed over her awesome voice or anything like that...nope, not me. <_<

In-game it was never really explained..thus the need for the CG Midlander thread in the first place. After Yoshi took over, the Echo-based stories kinda got put on hold..and we'll probably see some kind of conclusion or explanation about them in ARR, but as far as 1.0, a lot of what we have managed to establish was dissected, then confirmed by Ferne in the CG Midlander thread, not ingame ; ;.

I'll try to find Ferne's post in that thread to see if it'll make some sense to you.

Yeah, although after reading that, I saw there was a few things answered/confirmed/denied by Ferne, but much of that thread is just rumour, and personal theories (some downright weird) which have little more than circumstantial evidence at best, so until proven otherwise, I'd take anything mentioned in that thread with a grain of salt.

But then, this is FF after all - where would the series be without weird theories which have no evidence at all to back them up? (Aeris 'revival'/Cheese Weapon/Holy Kills Humanity/R=U/Squall's Dead etc, to name a few of the most famous fanmade 'theories' from the FF series) ;)

I know they don't answer your question directly, but it should give you a good basis on what was going on, and how the nation storylines were all hopping in and out of the Echo andwhatnot.

Ferne didn't really directly confirm some of that though, just kind of joked around about it and everyone just took it as gospel

(ala Minfila-Ascilia)

, so for me anyway the jury is still out on that one (although

I do agree about the whole 'jumping back and forth in the Echo', it's nowhere near as constant as everyone made it out to be, especially in the Gridanian storyline.

But then, may Ferne prove me wrong! ;)

Vilhem, you're my heroine! This answered part of my questions, and answered a ton more of questions I didn't even know I had.. lol

Told ya!! Haha. Anonymoose and several others do a splendid job of picking apart those storylines..and yeah there's others with crackpot theories, but the thing with the Echo is probably the most important basis for understanding the nation storylines.

I really hope our path companions come back. Mine was perfect to me. I chose the best name I could think of. :)

I liked the idea of a path companion for sure! But in 1.0 my path companion was just a heap of trash who didn't help worth beans. It's not like the battles were too hard anyway but had the path companion actually doone something to help besides be an extra voice in the cut scenes it might have been cool.

Mine was actually quite useful since he was a gladiator and my only job at the time was conjurer lol. So I let him take the brunt of the damage and just healed/nuked from afar.

Then of course, he got blasted by Gaius in that one cutscene...I was like, dafuq Gaius!!

By the twelve, that's a lot of lore there from Sir Ferne. Well, sounds like we'll have plenty to learn about the world in 2.0.

About Path Companions:

I liked the idea of an NPC who could travel with me and participate in combat, unfortunately the Path Companions were not up to the job. Combine that with my fierce apathy towards the Path storyline from 1.0, culminating in that Futures Perfect quest, and I'm not really worried whether my Path Companion comes back or not in 2.0. Assuming she survived the Umbral Era, maybe it would be nice to have an off-handed mention of her.

Flotsam thoughts:

You know, for as much as the Umbral Era was hyped, I was expecting it would be a multiple-century thing. Not to suggest that the Fall of Dalamud was anything to stick your nose up at, but... you know. "Era". The 1500 years of the 6th Astral Era was an era. 5 years for the 7th Umbral "Era" just seems flimsy by comparison.

2: I'm always surprised by how little people manage to put the Limsa storyline together. The captain in Limsa's opening CS is the Barracuda leader in your echo cutscenes which actually take place over 10 years ago. You were copying his firing stance from the first CS, which freaks out the Barracudas because (obviously) it's just like his. Furthermore, the deadbeat pirate you meet in the storyline is the same guy. I'd assume he got demoted or kicked out, or even left after the Ascian got away with the horn which is supposed to control Leviathan.

What is it?

This is the cliffhanger from Futures Perfect. Simply put, we don't know and the Sharlayans (Thancred, Y'shtola, Papalymo & Yda) are still trying to find out after ten years of searching. However, it is suspected that this voice comes from whoever or whatever gave you the echo. The most prominent theories to date regarding this entity's identity are:
- The primal, Siren (Ferne likes to troll us on this subject);
- The Twelve, or at least one of them, possibly Althyk as master of spacetime;
- Some other entity yet to be introduced in any capacity;
- The Lodestone itself, also known as the Mother Crystal.

Your guess from here on out is as good as mine. Personally, I think it is the Lodestone. A lot of others are hell-bent on the Siren theory.

Musketeer Firing Stances
What the hell is going on?

The trick to understanding this is understanding how the echo works, which the player is not expected to understand when they witness these scenes for the first time.

You start by being tested in the current day guild and are lent a firearm. As you pose, the Guildmaster and Commodore of the Knights of the Barracuda, Reyner, recognizes your chosen firing stance as that of Rostenstahl, a Roegadyn formally known as Stahlmann who has fallen from grace.

This triggers an echo-induced memory where you travel back in time to when Stahlmann was himself Guildmaster. In your interactions with the memory, you are recognized simply as a bystander, one who has no reason to be holding a pistol. Sergeant Mannskoen confiscates it accordingly.

When you leave the echo, you no longer have the pistol with you, hence the fuss about what happened to it - you left it behind in history, although you won't recognize it as history till much much later (Fade to White). You claimed to have "handed it back to the Sergeant". You mean Sergeant Mannskoen, but they assume a different Sergeant. After all, Mannskoen is dead in the present day. Everyone gets confused and no one finds the firearm.

Nasty business, all that. At least you made it out in one piece.

Path Companions
I miss the poor lass.

Path companions will not have a role to play initially in the reborn realm, but time and plot advances may change that. Watch this space.

Actually no, the pirates don't use guns.

the whole jelly fish scene was an echo, actually Stahlman only shows up during the echo the entire limsa storyline the commodore and the man you see swatting the jelly fish are one in the same. during the barracuda CS you aim your firearm the same way Stahlman did during the jelly fish scene. if you follow the story all the way through Commodore Stahlman betrayed limsa to the sahagin to get the horn and he's supposedly dead or in exile.

so in simple terms you used the gun form of a man thought to be dead, that betrayed all of limsa, to get his hands on a powerful horn artifact. anyway the horn artifact in the present time had made its way to uldah, how the shadowless elven sahagin servant managed to lose it is never explained.

It's not in Ul'dah, because the scenes happening in the Ul'dah storyline are also in the past/Echo. The Goobbue horn was last seen with Courgevais, who disappeared with it in the past.

They are different horns...though if they are linked in some way, remains to be seen
