I need my RPG fix, while waiting for ARR. Does anyone have any recommendations for RPGs? I don't want to start another MMO though. And bonus points if it's on Steam.

Witcher, Mass Effect, Bastion, Dark Souls, The Elder Scrolls Games, or you could play old turn based games like Ice Wind Dale/baulders, Arcanum, and such.. (all PC games)
really have no idea what you like, give us more to suggest with :D
Also consider trying Raccetear and Chantelise.
Not too picky. I like D&D rule sets even though I dunno what the rules mean lol. I really don't care, as long as the game has RPG elements like leveling up, gear, spells, stuff like that. Action RPG, Turn based, doesn't matter.
I have the Mass Effect Trilogy, Skyrim, and I was looking at Dark Souls. I have Diablo 3, but I had that on my old machine. Never reinstalled on this one cause last I played, Blizz couldn't get their shit together and game was horribly laggy.
Ni no kuni - tis very addictive once you get past the tutorials
Well, you have a PC, so I would definitely recommend picking up Skyrim! Oh, and if you have a PS3, Ni No Kuni is awesome.
I don't know any games on "Steam". But some RPG's I could recommend are Persona 3 FES (PS2), Persona 4 (PS2) (Golden if you can get it for Vita), Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White (PS3) (I hear it's great), Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS), Pokemon is alwasy okay, Older final fantasy titles, denpa men (3DS). I'll add more If I can think of any others.
Edit- More
Xenoblade chronicles (Wii), The Last Story (Wii)
If you get Dark Souls for PC I'd consider playing with a controller, and there is a player made patch that unlocks the graphics so you can make it look better then PS3. The devs of Dark Souls have no experience with PC so all they could pull off was a port with extra content- still if you've never played it before its a fun game, just dont be that person that rages at dying.. lol
Witcher is fun imo, like Mass Effect they better their systems from I to II so if you dont care for carrying your character and what not you can just start at II. Perhaps watch review to know what you are getting into (mature contents and such).
D3 has changed a bit maybe you can eek a few more hours from it.
This isn't exactly the RPG I think you intend.. However I thought Farcry 3 was quite an impressive game to tie me over..
Story mode goes through a pretty solid storyline, has a skilltree similar to a standard RPG, along with a singular large, progressive map.. Collect items, "craft" gear that lets you hold more items/ammo/loot etc.. Buy guns and ammo..
It is a FPS, but I consider it sort of RPG as well to an extent.. Story mode is at least.
If you couldn't tell I was impressed.
I uhhh, "resisted".
Wife watching I choose left or whichever one was the darker one XD
I made sure to keep her oh me gee face going lol
@ Lucke:
There are little changes to dialog and item start outs but nothing too crazy, although they are going to make a Witcher 3 (they released info that sounds like its already being made) and so 1 goes to 2 and that goes to 3 so who knows if 1 wont go even further into the future.
Ni No Kuni
Valkyria Chronicles
No mention of Knights of the Old Republic I and II? This thread fails. :p
Seriously though, even if you hate Star Wars, they're still well worth playing if only for the storyline which takes place long before the films and hence have virtually no connection to them.
Besides, who doesn't like going dark side and using the Force to make a couple of thugs turn over their money to you and then jump down a hole, mumbling zombie-style, to their deaths? :p
Dark Souls, Dark Souls, Ni No Kuni and Dark Souls.
The Last Remnant!
the Last Remnant for Sure. the soundtrack alone could pull the lacking weight in other area's...if it had any.
also if you have a DS lying around the Golden Sun 1&2 for GBA(assuming you have a DStwo or acekard) and Golden Sun for DS was awsome.
haha i am so bored waiting for ffxiv beta to be out. given most of days i am out or doing things, but when i am free and want play something. i have no idea what to play too lol :D.
End up replaying ghostbusters the video game on ps3 :X. Busting makes me feel good~ =p jk
Impulsedriven (Gamestop) has the entire Neverwinter Nights collection for $30. That'll hold you over for a while.
if your into old turn by turn RPG one of the best of all time in my mind : Xenogears.
P.S not Xenosaga
Tales of Symphonia or Tales of the Abyss.
Or Pokemon. Just for the nostalgia, and I guess in anticipation for Pokemon X/Y in October too.
Or Fire Emblem since someone suggested an SRPG (Valkyria Chronicles, which is also awesome btw). And also since Tomorrow Fire Emblem: Awakening is being released.
Lost Odyssey if you have xbox, great story and music. Just get a box of hankies because yo uwill laugh, cry, laugh, cry
The Tales series are great :) I have been replaying Lost Odyssey amazing game well worth a look if not played it, also Shadow Hearts series and Rogue galaxy with Star Ocean are all top rpgs.
I was debating last remenant myself, had mixed reviews
If you're not familiar with WRPGs, Baldur's Gate series, Fallout series, Planescape Torment, Arcanum and Icewind Dale are out on gog.com for cheap. You can get all of these $10 each.
For JRPGs, Ni no Kuni released not too long ago to critical acclaim and I'm playing through it now, amazing game.
Also if you don't necessarily want an RPG to play, I have a TON of leftover invites for DOTA 2, and it's free to play and a good time waster.
I was going to go get vampire the masquerade: bloodlines off steam but it was 20 bucks! goes to show why it's one of the best rpgs. I'll wait until it goes on sale. I'm playing witcher 2 right now though. i've had it since the enhanced edition came out and just now getting around to playing it.
Also since nobody mentioned: If you have a PSP you can definitely try Trails In The Sky, it's awesome and has the most... The story is awesome because it's absolutely cliché and played straight, it's very good.
Also for the DS a must acquire is Radiant Historia.
Second Planescape: Torment! Incredible story. Download the patch before you play.
See, I don't get this. Every time someone asks for suggestions for RPGs, either Xenosaga is never mentioned or someone says not to play it. I genuinely don't understand. To this day it stands head and shoulders above virtually any other RPG in terms of character and story in my mind (though someone mentioned Lost Odyssey, which probably had better character development [damn you memory flash backs!]). If it had a flaw, it is that these games have too much story (and too many cut-scenes to present it [there are literally several 30 minute long cutscenes in the first game; I believe the longest is like 45 minutes]). But I would say that makes it the distillation of the purest JRPG elements.
Seriously though, if you have 90-100 hours (for all three games in the trilogy), and a craving for a good science fiction story, I highly recommend it. A lot of the music is done by Yuki Kajiura, and the English voice acting is pretty ahead of it's time, given the first game was an early era PS2 game.
I was a big fan of Xenosaga 1, in spite of the 20-minute cutscenes. Well, actually, I wasn't bothered by them. It was like having both an anime and a JRPG. For me, that was novel, and the plot was interesting enough to me to keep me playing. I was completely turned off by Xenosaga 2, however. Just didn't like anything about it: the new character models, monotone voice acting, combat system, character progression... I feel I gave it a fair shake, but in the end I just had to shelve it and I never looked back. I don't sell my old video games anymore, but if there were one out of my collection that I would sell, that'd be it.
I have no idea if Xenosaga 3 was any better. I figured after missing out on 2, I was probably going to miss important parts of the plot in 3, and after all the changes in 2 that I didn't care for, I just wasn't interested in spending the money to pick up 3.
Heck, I at least look back on Megaman: Command Mission. Not really in a positive light, but moreso than Xenosaga 2.
King's Quest if you don't mind the terribad graphics!
Agreed, and yes, Xenosaga II is definitely the weakest in the trilogy. More like something you have to get through to make it to 3, but honestly, it's well worth it. The combat system in 3 is more like something you would expect to see out of a mid generation Final Fantasy game (ability based, rather than combo based), but they do some very interesting things with the AP and Boost systems. The action cutscenes are by far the best in the trilogy, and while Momo's voice acting is still atrocious, everyone else has really stellar VAs in the third game.
Xenosaga III is definately worth looking into, just have to make it through II. That being said, if you don't do any of the sidequests in II, it only takes like 10 hours (it's not actually that long of a game).
I can't believe no one has mentioned "Dragon's Dogma" for the PS3, it is an incredibly addictive and fun open world RPG.
So Ni No Kuni eh? Seems alot of ppl like it here and no one has said anything bad about. So I guess if I go pick it up in an hour I am sure to not be disappointed!? (it's either that or new pair of dress shoes for work).
