Alpha testers in to phase 1 beta?

Will Alpha testers be automatically invited to be in Phase 1 Beta? I heard this is not happening but in recent events I have been convinced otherwise.

No. You have to apply if you're not Legacy for phase 1.

You're only guaranteed a place in phase1 beta if you are legacy. If you were an alpha tester without legacy, you'll have to wait until your name is picked again :(.

Why do i have a feeling we going to have 100 topics bitching that only legacy got in beta1 while people with non legacy who play alpha have to wait to get in. :) thank god we have beta forums but it's going to be a good laugh for days on here lol.

SE said that legacy members get in automatically and that alpha members don't have to reapply but are not guaranteed a spot in, but SE can always change their mind, although unlikely. It would it make some sense to bring alpha members into phase 1 so that they can critique the changes from alpha to beta but there are bound to be legacy alpha testers. Now that I think about this further, it makes less and less sense for alpha testers to get into the beta since they asked only the legacy players to check their emails and not the alpha players....

XD I think the bitching is an inevitability, even though legacy being a shoe-in has been well known for a little time, there are still going to be some last-minute-nancies that cry foul><

Thanks for letting me know guys! :) I was hoping for Legacy since i've had limited edition since launch and participated in beta but i didnt get the 3 months pay in..I thought i did for how long i played lol. But other then that I hope all Legacy players enjoy the Beta when phase 1 starts. Can't wait to join you all! :)

Can't help but make me think there were a lot of testers, that just did not want to to do their "JOB" remember that.

Find the problems, fix the problems, or FFS do NOT sign up for the beta.
There are people who are actually willing to do WORK to help make this game great..

I wasn't in alpha so have no idea what the test forums contained but to be honest I think that the "lack of input from the community in XIV 1.0 beta" was more like "lack of listening from the producer was in charge at the time".

1.0 beta was openly crappy but they pushed it out anyway with minimal fixes and no huge changes from beta.

I am kind of glad they did, as we wouldn't have the new devoted dev team reworking the whole game today if that didn't happen.

Believe me there were plenty of complaints from the first week of 1.0 alpha... why SE went back and looked at them when making ARR.

As someone who was a tester from day 1 of 1.0 Alpha, I can tell you this is most certainly not the case. We posted feedback on threads for each category gameplay, battle UI etc after each 4 hour block of play we got. And yes we posted, there were thousands of posts on each thread.

We all stated on the forums and to everyone who would listen the game was not ready for release an we assumed it was just a rush to get XIV launched before cataclysm.

In fact I still bring it up with a friend who was with me from day one how everyone in the 1.0 testing community was convinced there was another version of the game that would be released which we referred to as the 'Secret Gamescon Edition' (a XIV preview being shown at Gamescon just prior to launch), as none of us could believe that what we were playing would/could be released in the state it was in. (It was so prevalent I'm surprised it never made it to the FFXIV meme thread)

Mistakes were made, changes were made to fix it. Please don't blame a community who tried their best, especially when you have no knowledge of what they did or how they acted.

That's not to say in the 1.0 alpha that there weren't people just there to play a shiny new MMO, because there were. I'm sure half of the people that applied and got into the 1.0 alpha were there to see if they wanted to buy it and maybe half of those never did, not because they wanted to make FFXIV a great MMO, but that's what happens when a new MMO goes into testing.

With all the bad press and word of mouth 1.0 received, added to the majority of testers being Legacy players, there will be a lot less of the "Ooohhhh shiny!" players testing than there are in other MMO betas. Sure, there will still be some, but I think your opinion on how helpful the members of this forum will be in the fine-tuning of ARR is clouded by their bored antics.

And as Kira already stated, a lot of our alpha/beta feedback was overlooked so they could release early.

I was an alpha and beta tester for what is now known as 1.0. As kira said, there were plenty of threads in the then alpha and beta forums about the games problems. We tried, but SE didn't listen.

@Solace why so serious? :) these trolls are just teasing you, cause you're being to sensitive.
But i agree, it would be better if only those that actually cared, and want to give feedback etc, got in.
However it's not a big issue; There will be enough people that give feedback. If more people gave their feedback, there would be thousands of pages for devs to look through, and most of it just repetitions of what others already said. No one wanna go through 1000 pages to see what others already wrote, before you post your feedback.
The issue in 1.0 was that devs didn't care about feedback, or didn't do enough to fix it. Well actually from what Yoshi said, the system was so faulty, that the 1.0 team couldn't even have fixed it, even if they wanted too...that's why there's a remake of the whole game.
Yoshi has gone to lengths to make a point of listening, and talking in person to community, and making sure to restore trust etc. So the chances of 1.0 incident happening again is pretty much non-existent.

Jeeze everyones so edgy, beta is almost out calm down !

I'm not edgy! I'm curvy. ^^

I'm going to have so much fun in Beta. Letting the Legacy accounts in first as a guarantee was so nice of SE. ^^

Well said Solace, the whole point of alpha/beta testing is so you test the game, not log in go afk and stand at an aetheryte point for 7 hours while your at school/work etc...the whole point of these tests is you actively participate,feedback etc...you play and get stuck in scenery - feed it back even if 20 other people report the same, you find a mob impervious to your attacks, feed it back. Theres plenty id like to say about alpha but the NDA is in place!
