FFXIV: Prequel to Final Fantasy Tactics

It's amazing how much FFXIV is starting to remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics. I just got to Lionel Castle in FFT, and all that talk of "The Twelve" and them saving the world when trouble arises made me think of the astral and umbral eras in FFXIV. Auracite and Aetheryte, it's all so similar. I know Zodiacs and the number 12 are common in fantasy games. But how cool would it be if that's the direction they're planning on taking XIV. If they can reset a realm, they can do anything. Imagine the introduction of the Lucavi in the first expansion. My mind would be blown.

I looked for some posts on this in the forums and couldn't find much - granted I only searched "Final Fantasy Tactics".

I wish they do a Job Crystal/Class Pendant or something, instead of switching Weapons :(

Wouldnt mind the job class system being kinda like that. Ninja Knights with dual wield weapon break armor break skills. Mimes dancers scholars summoners chemists the possibilities would be insane.
I think it would set it apart for other mmos atleast it would have the most classes/jobs. Although ffxi had like 20 which is more than the standard 6-8.

I doubt it seeing as any game related to Tactics actually takes place in Ivalice at some point in the timeline. This is going to be a fanservice game, so see many elements from all FFs coming in, for example we got the Crystal Tower but we can be assured that XIV isn't taking place in any point in III's timeline.

Wonder what Yoshida's honest opinion of the job system is... like is he thinking to himself "oh my god.. if I remove it people will be pissed I change their favorite class, at the same time.. oh my god.."

lol i think they know this already, but decide to use the basic one because of low cost, just improve upon.

Seriously i like the class/job system, i wish they have change the way we change our damn class thou...
like have an empty pendant(class), insert job crystal = wala job!

Ivalice seems to be the most used world in Final Fantasy. I'm not entirely sure how they could weave this into the future of Hydaelyn. However, both Ivalice and Hydaelyn have 3 continents. I'm not sure what the story of ARR might hold. But someone telling a story can make anything possible.

Still, a fanservice game could find a place for Lucavi ^_^/

Somehow I doubt this. Ivalice also has its own share of races and setting that just doesn't mesh with xiv's world that well, not the least of which being the summons's purpose.

If we where somehow Ivalice, it would at least explain the addition of Viera.

I remember when I first got into the world of XIV. I thought Bangaa would have fit well in Ul'dah. I still do think they'd fit well.

I much prefer switching weapons, job crystals is just way too anime for me. It fits fine in FF tactics but I definitely would not like it in ARR.

Plus we already have job stones, so adding another one for classes would just be awkward.

Job Crystals "too anime"? FFIII and FFV, the other job system FF games, gained jobs through Crystals >.>.

I was hoping it would end up being that each job had a unique weapon type, but I guess it was easier from a design perspective to make one item per job and lump it into a story they were already developing.
