How does multiple active service accounts work?

I recently bought the CE of 1.0 and plan to buy the ps3 of ARR... So eventually I'll have 3 active service account at once... Now how does it work in-game? From what could see, we could have 8 players per service account so if I have 8 players on all of my service accounts do I have to select which service account I want to use every time I log in or are all my characters listed at the time? I doubt the latter since there really only (currently) have 8 available slots... Maybe there is a tab on character select to navigate between service accounts...

3 paid accounts? Your wording is somewhat confusing.

If you want to play on the Ps3, there's no need to activate the account you get with the game there (assuming it works like XI did). You just need the game files, then you're good to go with your own accounts.

If its 3 paid accounts, you have to select which account you want to log in with. You could do Account1 on PC and Account2 on PS3 etc.

I'm assuming you're asking how do you pay for three active accounts? I own three accounts, which during 1.0 I played. I'm assuming you will just have to log onto which account you want to play on ps3, if that's what you're asking o.o

There's no way to associate service accounts with each other (that seems to be what you're asking). In other words your 3 accounts are separated just like they are with anyone else's account - with a Username/Password and/or security token.

You can login with any account on any PC or any PS3, which answers your question, yes you have to select (via username) which account you want to use everytime you launch the game.

It is possible to link multiple FFXIV service accounts to a single Square Enix ID. After logging in, you will see the game title screen as normal. Selecting "Start" will display a list of active service accounts. You cannot see which characters are on which account until you select one. You can always back out to the game title screen and select a different account. You don't have to log out completely just to switch characters.

You might be able to log on from two systems at once (using the same SQEX ID, but different service accounts,) but I don't know how SE security would view that. I think "account sharing" is against the terms of use.

Incorrect. He either needs to create a seperate account for the PS3, or add the PS3 registration code to his main service account (at which point it cannot be used independently (e.g. u cant log on ps3 and PC at the same time)

You can only og in if that account has a registration code for the platform you're playing on. PS3 players wanting to log on the PC will need to have a PC registration code on their account, and vice versa for PC players. If you want to have two seperate accounts when you buy the other platform's version, they will not be able to freely log on to the opposite platform- they'll only be able to play on the platform coresponding to the registration code that was used.

That's how it was intended to be since the beginning, I've heard nothing of it in a long time so unless someone can point out it changing, I don't expect it to change.

im pertty sure its the same as FFXI. the platform is just the client to access the game you account is the main thing not what you play on.

Think of it this, when you buy FFXIV it comes with a "key" you than need to make a SE account and attach the "key" to the account, there is one for the PC and ps3 version (as well as other versions if SE makes ports for it.)

Once you attach the key to your account look at it like this

Lets say you log into your account, it will go over to the main server and first it might ask
"Does this person have a active FFXIV account" if you do than it will go to the next step

"Does this person have a PC key, if yes than this person can log onto his account from the PC."
"Does this person have a PS3 key, if yes than this person can log onto his account from the ps3."
"This person has a PC and a PS3 key, this person can log onto both the ps3 and PC interchangeably."

Create separate SE accts, with each having its own KEY entered for the FFVIX service.

SEAcct1 <-> FFXIV <-> KEY1 (Play on PC)
SEAcct2 <-> FFXIV <-> KEY2 (Play on PC)
SEAcct3 <-> FFXIV <-> KEY3 (PS3)

Now you can play three chars at the same time in game.

If you use one SE acct for all three keys, you can only play one char at a time.

Please becareful where you are going to input your codes, this happen to my account having 2x Final Fantasy XIV Service Account in one Account.

One being from Closed beta/Open Beta, another is the Retail version.

In my account there is two Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XIV 1 and Final Fantasy XIV 2, my Final Fantaxy XIV 1 is inactive because i go and input into a new Final Fantasy XIV service code.

This is where you should be very well aware, that when PS3 comes out.. .

I think it will goes this way, got to ur current Final Fantasy XIV Account Service that is active, and use the Option List instead of inputing a newer code.

When you are working with FFXIV (at least on V1.0), there are Square-Enix accounts (SE account), and there are Final Fantasy XIV Service accounts (Service account).

A single SE account can have up to 8 Service accounts linked to it. A single Service account can have up to 8 Options (Characters) in it. That would be a total of 64 characters across all Service accounts on a single SE account.

You can login to ONE and ONLY ONE character within each Service account at a time, but you can also login to one character from each service account within the SE account all at the same time. That's 8 simultaneous logins at a time if you have the maximum 8 Service accounts on the SE account.

This is very much like FFXI except the Service account is called a PlayOnline account for that game.

However, unlike FFXI, you MUST have a registration code for for each platform you wish to play on for a given Service account. So if you wanted to be able to have the maximum 64 characters all playable on both PC and PS3, you will need to buy 8 PC registration codes, AND 8 PS3 registration codes. One of each needs to be applied to each Service account. This was not necessary on FFXI as that game could be played on any supported platform (PC PS2, Xbox 360) once the PlayOnline account had been established. (It is necessary to use a separate registration code to create each PlayOnline account, but it was not necessary to add any more registration codes to play on a different platform for FFXI)

Note also the maximum number of PlayOnline accounts within a SE account is 10, but for FFXIV Service accounts, it is only 8.

The OP may wish to consider applying the PS3 registration code to the main existing FFXIV Service account that you already have in order to play your main character on either platform. If you make a new Service account with that registration, you will only be able to play the characters on that Service account on your PS3. The others (including your previous main character from V1.0) will only be playable on your PC.

Applying a new registration code to either an existing Service account or to make a new Service Account will do nothing to the current "Active" status of the existing Service accounts. If they were active before, they will still be active after. If they were cancelled before, they will still be cancelled.

Also, at this point, there is no way to apply your CE code to anything. All code registrations are disabled until ARR goes retail at which point things may look quite different than they have with V1.0. But I suspect the structure of it won't really change that much.... just the appearance.

As for Alpha and Beta testing: there are additional "permanent" options listed at the bottom of the page (you may have to scroll to see them) on the Options page for each and every Service account. The markings that allow you to do the testing are placed there by SE. In the case of the Alpha test, they only mark one Service account. It is probably always the one called "Final Fantasy XIV 1"

Thanks, you explained it... just one last question... if I have two or more active service accounts, and I register an item code. Will the item code be a permanent option to both active service accounts or do they ask me to choose a service to apply it to?

You will need to choose which Service account the item code will be applied to. It can only be applied to one of them. After you have finished applying the code, it will appear in the list of "permanent" options at the bottom of the Options page for the Service account you applied it to. It will not be available at all for any option (character) on any other Service account.

It's not the same as XI. You can't freely log on to each platform without having a registration code for that platform on your service account. So you have to choose whether you want to have 2 seperate accounts Which must stay on their respective platforms, or 1 service account that can freely use either platform.
