V1.23 safe to Delete?

Not sure if this was already posted somewhere but I did not find or search very long for it.

I'm pretty sure ARR will have a totally new client there for it should be safe to delete v1.0, but just want to make sure, any body have any info on this matter?

No Problem ^^

Feel free to uninstall. ARR is a brand new client and you won't need to have the old one installed.

But if you want to import your 1.0 character to edit in ARR, you should save your FFXIV folder located under MyGames (I think)

It's not touched by the uninstallation routine, I uninstalled mine without backing up and it wasn't removed...

That is for if you want to create a new character with the same 1.0 character looks.

If you keep your character data, you'll be able to use your 1.0 character in the benchmark (if that you know, floats your chocobo).

Yea I been logging into 1.0 here and there, (bored) but only like 5-6 people online +(, I did manage to get into a group of 6 the other day and we just went around the world killing named NM's XD was pretty fun.

I had to go out and couldn't join. ^^;

If you are on during Japan peak time we've had about 50 to 70 people for the past few days, and most people are just trying to help each other clear quests and other things that they didn't finish previously... or just doing sort of silly things (all PLD Ifrit fight anyone?) for fun.

Hey ^^ sorry I missed JP time this morning But I was up late last night watching all the CS's at the inn. Lots of memory's in those CS's ^^ Not sure how much time is left before 1.0 goes down officially but I will try to make it online next JP prime time if servers still up.

I'm not sure how many people will be on tonight since it's New Year's Eve and traditionally people are rather occupied IRL, but it IS the very last night of 1.0 so many more people may try to log on.

Last night there were about 90 people online doing Hamlet, Garuda, Ifrit Extreme, etc. Just for old time's sake.

By the way, the leader of "Survivors of D Megaflare 1" was saying that she would disband the LS last night and that people should spend time with their own LS's tonight... so you may find the LS gone today if she goes through with those plans.

I saw some people doing Rivenroad the other day in Grid, and some poor noob levelling his Thaumaturge who didn't know his progress was not being saved.

Logged on today saw 54 people on, that's a lot more then it has been.

There was over 150 people logged into Ridill during the last hour of game service today - mostly in Ul'dah as usual. It got kind of scary suddenly seeing the game become populated again when just last week I logged into Ridill and did a player search only to belatedly discover I was the sole player in the game logged in on that server at that time. :(

My heart well and truly sank then as I could no longer be in denial about 1.0's impending shutdown. :(

I deleted 1.23 a month ago... said my goodbyes at the final event. But will resume my hellos in a months time. :)

My last log in session was a blast last night +) we made a Ifrit party with no whm or conj ^^ good times. In a way I will miss 1.0 but it's for the greater good. Hope to see everyone in ARR!

Opening the game now gives you a screen that tells you to uninstall so there is your answer.

There... uninstalled. I made sure I left the character data.

I haven't uninstalled v.1.0 yet... still seems to me that others haven't either... I've logged in the other day and servers still up with players.

I was with a friend over skype when I checked it out..(I was like "What the Fu??????????") O_o

Ah well I have other games to play besides this one, 6-7 month wait to play again probably. Will try out 2.0 but don't know if I would play it seriously or not.

The question is now moot for me since I have rebuilt my PC with a new CPU and formatted my hard drive.

Oh well...

Does anyone know the specific files to save for character data, and/or where they are? Don't wanna delete the wrong thing =P

Which reminds me... why there's no better quality version of End of Era FMV? Even the 1080p version streamed from youtube itself still has bits of quality loss here and there. ;D

if you want to watch the opening video you can change the extension of this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\data\8A\D0\00\00.DAT
from ".DAT" to ".wmv".

Ironically enough, when I watched it in the game it often suffered from screen tearing (probably due to the fact I was using a crappy monitor at the time) - played in this way though there was no tearing whatsever.

I wonder though, if the other FMVs (like the Circle facing down Gaius in Mor Dhona) can also be viewable in this way (probably not, but it's a nice idea).

Doesn't have anything to do with the monitor, just the fact you probably watched it in fullscreen and FFXIV 1.0 didn't have vsync enabled. When playing in windowed mode and windows aero on, vsync is automatically on, and most players nowadays don't switch to exclusive fullscreen mode, so no tearing.

I think some of them can be, namely those with subtitles (so yes, the Gaius one), but your character will obviously be missing. The rest is dynamically generated from ingame footage. You could try using some program able to sort folders by size (windows doesn't do that correctly) and sort through all the folders.

No, you can't really load the other cutscenes the same way you can the opening FMV.

The main difference is the opening FMV is pre-rendered, that is, it is an actual movie file already drawn and compressed. This is why the characters, like our derplander and his party, have very realistic looking models and textures. If your computer tried to draw that the same way it does the other in-game cutscenes, your PC would either choke and die, or spend the next 30 days loading each frame xD

The ingame cutscenes, like the Gaius battle in Mor Dhona for example, is drawn/rendered the moment the game tells your computer to run it. It also has to call your current character data, and the model for your path companion, which it cannot do unless it contacts the server for that information.

It's true for the most cutscenes like I said, but I'm pretty sure I stumbled upon the Gaius one in the data files, I just cba to find it atm. Pre-rendered sequences have, like you said, one distinct feature: high details, but also effects not in the game. The spell Papalymo casts is one example, the explosion at the end another. Same goes for the one where Khrim burns the tree.

Right, the actions Papalymo does does not mesh with how the game works, but nevertheless the sound effects and glowy things are actual assets in the game (the game has thousands of small glows and other things that can easily be combined)

Same thing with the fire on the tree: it wouldn't take much to tell the game to extend, stretch, or duplicate a "fire" asset already available to convincingly display a burning tree.

It COULD also be that these effects were created for the cutscenes as well, but still, the main point you're missing is that these effects, like our character models, are lower quality enough so our PCs can load them in real time with little to no hiccups.

The same can't be said for the opening FMV. The "assets" for those movies are on an SE harddrive somewhere, tucked away from the public eye, so that plebs like me won't take them and make silly animation with them (like derplander >_>)

I've just searched through all the files and I couldn't find the Gaius one, so I guess I was mistaken. The opening is the only pre-rendered cutscene in the 1.0 client.

Ah, that explains it - I completely forgot about vsync, that does make perfect sense (and yes I was playing FFXIV 1.0 in full screen mode - but under XP though). Thanks for the clarification. :)
