Only like 6 people own a Vita though :/
^^^ Like he said, it's not ready for a port yet. I do want one but I am waiting for price drops tho.
I'm one of the 6, however I use my PS Vita mostly to watch anime on the bus. If SE ever ports FFXIV or adds remote play for ps vita, I doubt I'll use it.
remote play isn't worth it because its very laggy so it will be unplayable for alot of content... cross play may be a different story... Having a ps vita as a controller and using the touch screen to press the battle moves and navigate through menu screens would be nice though...
As of DEC 27 here are the real numbers.
US- 900,001 units
Japan-536,846
UK- 238,429
France-218,787
Germany- 143,995
Seems like a petty good sized market to me. Also I would love to see a Vita ARR app, even if it was something simple. Maybe just add chat on the Vita and smart phones. :)
Also Kirito if you turn down the "Image Quality" it works way better. The Vita is defaulted to "+1" change it to normal or -1. It still looks great and runs a lot better.
I would actually consider buying a Vita if FFXIV came out for it.
Ya because of my Job It was in my better interest to buy one (I am a supervisor in Tech Support). I pre-ordered it about 5 months before it came out. I love it, just wish I got more time to play it. Check out the case I made for it. http://i.imgur.com/zK5F4.jpg
I have a PS Vita. It is one of the best devices I've bought.
A simple FFXIV ARR app will be nice. Text message your free company alliance while on the go, and used as a controller would make a nice peripheral.
that is because they're still releasing popular games on it, but this week PS Vita outsold PSP, 171,219 to 77,564. These are vgchartz numbers.
I'm wondering why people are denying a port. How does a port to vita affect you people who are going to play the PC versions?
I find it funny how people act like they are technology specialists on these forums, and supposedly believe the game cannot be modified for a Vita port or at least for minor gameplay activities (such as gathering, crafting, etc)
Also ARR uses a different engine, as opposed to FF14 of last which was much more demanding on the system, and didn't Yoshida claim the new engine was easily scalable? So why are people acting like they know if the new engine is already doomed to work on a handheld?
Because Yoshi-P has officially said it will not be happening yet, whilst it is technically possible they need to get it on PS3 before they even think about other devices.
Also there is network problems, the only people I could see using the Vita are people who are out of the house, therefore relying on public hotspots or 3g, which is where this gamesradar interview comes in.
This is why we denying a port it's from Yoshi-P himself.Quote:
Some slightly concerning news for PS Vita. We sat down with Final Fantasy XIV's producer and director Naoki Yoshida at Gamescom, who told us his game's engine is very scaleable so it can be dialed back to fit lower-spec hardware, which is why it works on PC and PS3. We immediately thought of the other logical low-end platform - PS Vita - and asked how feasible that would be as a platform for an MMO like FFXIV. Here's what he told us:
Naoki Yoshida (via translator): "Technically it'll probably work – you could scale it down and get it running. The problem is that in an MMO one of the most important things is the network and so, you know, if you're in a party with a lot of different people in a raid and someone's on the Vita and they have a very... you know, it's not a stable network connection then you're going to be a nuisance to your party members. So global internet networks need to be better. And then also, just more people need to buy the Vita."
am not very sure but seems sony are dumbing the idea of remote play to replace it with Cross play (greedy)
Probably because remote play is a poorly implemented design, you can't watch DvDs or stream CDs, all you can do is use things stored on the HDD anything on a disk cannot be shared with remote play. The uses are very small and it's all together laggy, in order for it to be any use it needs a complete rework.
Cross play is far more useful and it will allow the PS3, and even PS4 to combat the WiiU gamepad, because it's just the same (except the Vita cost's a lot more.
I'd buy FFXIV for PC, PS3 and Vita.
I have a PS Vita and I think it's under rated imho.
I really enjoyed playing my vita and I believe FFXIV ARR is possible on the handheld. Maybe a year after FFXIV ARR has launched, Yoshida will decide if there's enough support of the Vita version.
They definitely can make use of the touch screen abilities on the vita as it would act just like a mouse to click and such and to zoom in and out etc. etc.
I have PS3 and Vita...
If ARR PS3 version can be remote controlled by Vita, I can do crafting and gathering while lulling my baby to sleep....
So I will be glad if it happens.
I don't see why a port wouldn't work. Doing raids obviously would be out of question, but allowing players to do simple game activities like crafting, gathering and quests... really wouldn't impede on anyone.
I have a Vita. I have a PS3. I can't imagine seeing FFXIV on the Vita do to it's short battery life. It's also heavy, and the touch screen has some flaws (it's nowhere near as a good as a iPhone or iPad touch screen). Remote Play works but it's limited to Wifi only. Right now only GoW collection and ICO/Shadow of the Colossus support the Vita's remote play (which has no latency). But it's far from perfect.
I just don't see this happening. It would be too much work to get working properly in any case. Yes you could do it. But it would be easier to create an iPad version, since the latest iPad is more powerful than the Vita. And I don't expect an iPad version either.
Surprised there are not more "plug-in" sort of games. Like play through random side story for vita, earn loot for your MMO character. Sure there's been a few freebies just for straight out buying a game, but I mean something more directly tied to your character. The plug-in game could even access your regular MMO account for your main character's stats, and then use those for the separate game. I guess it is just a matter of ending up with your developer resources split too much.
Oh I know what you mean. The Chocobo World, PocketStation tie in for Final Fantasy VIII that was only available in Japan.
That would be awesome if SE did this.
iirc. you can collect items from Chocobo World and transfer them over to FFVIII.
You may consider the Vita to be better for gaming than the iPad, that does not mean it is. The iPad is as much a gaming machine as the Vita. The Vita lacks any way at the moment to connect a keyboard, or additional controllers. The iPad allows this. And the Vita lacks dedicated L2 and L3 buttons. In any case, the "dedicated gaming machine" argument is has no merit. They are mobile computers, capable of running a variety of software. Buttons have no relevance.
If the development team really wants to spend time and effort on a Vita version, they can. I just don't see it being practical.
L2, R2 = Back touch pad
L3, R3 = Touch screen (if game developers make it that way)
Keyboard = Touch screen keyboard
Dual Analog = iPad does not have
D-Pad = iPad does not have
(Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square, L1, R1) = iPad does not have
Your argument is flawed.. You aren't just saying, you are downplaying.. You have my sympathy.. Vita is first considered a gaming machine, and not the other way around.
Some sort of Vita function would be cool.. It doesn't have to be a playable version, but maybe you can access your logs and what not. Kind of like how Batman works on the Wii-U.
Sorry for double post, buuut.. Why would I want to plug a controller into my Vita when it has a controller built into it? That's basically what all the buttons are that surround the screen. The iPad is just a tablet with the option to play games. Vita is a game machine with option to have apps.
