If the ability to add new characters isn't reactivated, would it be possible to open up the other cities' quest lines (and possibly other Grand Company quests) to existing characters? I feel like this shouldn't be a problem now that FFXIV 1.0 servers being up is in direct contradiction with the lore of 2.0. I'd really like to play through the other story missions from the other towns/Grand Companies but I only had one character at the time the servers went down.

I'd be fine with letting people switch companies.

With a penalty for desertion.

JP Rep replied to one of the forums where they asked if it was OK to delete their existing Lv50 character without losing their character at the time ARR is launched.
Rep said it wont affect the ARR so it's OK to delete your current character to start a new one.

Now although the rep said this and I'm sure 99.9% safe to do... I don't have the courage to delete my character... lol

Old news. They already said in 2.0 you can switch companies freely.
*Since you were a lowly recruit in the other 2 companies when you joined your's, you will still be a recruit when you join them. aka Private 3rd Class.
* Due to the Dalamud event being over, many quests tied to "pre-7th umbral era" are no longer accessable.
*If you switch back to your old grand company, you will hold the rank and seals you had when you left that old GC. The same works in reverse. (aka you can switch from Twin Adder to Immortal Flames and back again if you wish).
* GC specific gear like chocobos/barding and officer gear, special accessories are GC unique. If you are a mismatched GC they cannot be equipped.

In addition, your rank from your previous company will not be carried over, and instead you will begin from the lowest rank. Your old rank will be saved though, so it doesn't get lost.

Originally, I was opposed to changing GCs because I really like players being forced to make real decisions in a game.

But I'm also a bit of a completionist with the storylines, and I'd like to see each GC's plot play out, so I was torn on the matter.

Overall, I like to have the option though.

Still, there needs to be a real penalty for changing GCs. Gear restrictions aren't enough IMO.

Perhaps when you quit, the GC would confiscate your seals? After all: "If this GC isn't good enough for you now, then you surely don't need those seals anymore..."

Additionally the option to resign should not be available until you've reached a certain GC rank.

I'm not talking about A Realm Reborn. I'm talking about letting people do the other two city quest lines on the old 1.0 servers. I only have one character slot in 1.0 and they haven't brought back the option to make new characters. I may just have to delete and remake my character as was suggested earlier in the thread unless they open up registration or just let our current characters partake in the additional quest lines. As I stated before, I don't see this as being a problem given 1.0's paradoxical nature (lore wise) as is runs concurrently with ARR's storyline.

There aren't systems currently in the game to handle changing GCs, and I don't think you're going to convince the dev team to patch the game just so you can see GC cutscenes with your char in them.

You can find many videos of 1.0 cutscenes online - Watch/download them and you'll get the whole story~ Its really your only option at this point.

Oh yeah. Well, I doubt too much changes from the Dalamud based content between them. You're probably not missing much.
