Rolling for loot!

The devs are probably thinking of it, but I've learnt not to take anything for granted, so here it is: Does anybody else out there think we need a more flexible and inclusive system for casting lots over battle loot than the silent, background one the game currently provides?

Honestly doesn't matter to me either way. In XI I don't remember people lotting that much anyway. We usually just let it fall to whoever. When someone did need something others just passed.

I for one enjoy how items are distributed now in XIV over how they were in XI. This is a good default and there is no harm with more tweaks and additions to the loot system.

That's actually a good argument to talk about: Loot.

There should be an entertaining system of assigning the loot of the battle, and what else than the classic Roll of Dices?
I'd divide this in two groups: Common Loot and Tasty Loot

Common Loot: Those objects don't have a markable value in them, such as Rat Tails, Marmot Meat, Cock Feather,...
Tasty Loot: Markable valued objects, such as horns form horned animals (Aldgoat Horn, Buffalo Horn,...), some high quality leather/hide,...

The main concept is, that I think that there have to be 2 groups of items, and one group is worth a dice roll. If there was only one group of items and every item has a roll in it, we would be invaded by LOLROLL! popups every time we kill a monster.

Personally, I hate lots. The current system is fine with me.

Against it as well and it would be the same, really. The system would still rely on randomly generated numbers, but you'd have to take an extra step to lot on the item which would give you some psychological effect that make you feel better because you actually looted on it.

After if it's a matter of lot of something that somebody wanted to pass but got the loot, that person who wanted to pass the item will be willing to give it anyway.

I'm against it as well. For the same reason PandaTaru gave.

My biggest concern is treasure chest drops, they go to a random character in your group. I believe that they should go to a holding place and from there the group can decide who gets if anyone wants it or they can let it go where it goes randomly. If I'm after a particular piece of gear and it goes to a holding place, I can ask for it.

The reality is if I'm after a particular piece of gear and it randomly drops to some random guy I have to ask said guy if I can have it instead of asking the group if I can have it.

Someone who gets a piece of gear randomly will be slightly more resistant to give it up than if it's in a group holding place. They might not even want it, but since it's in their possession they're not likely to give it up, perhaps due to laziness or greed.

Also, I liked the random lot system of XI.

Either way, it's random assignment of loot. Adding manual intervention between the kill and the loot drop does not make me happy at all.

Full disclosure: Well, I did play WoW, but it wasn't a comparison with that game that generated my comment, since I was always much more of a FFXI player than any other of the many MMOs I've played. It wasn't any comparison... actually. I was trying to foresee situations in which a more flexible system would be needed. Perhaps I was wrong, perhaps not. However I do think my comment does not warrant the unpleasantness of Evangela's and Zaene's replies.

Normal loot is fine, yes, but for special items dropped by NMs or future events, there needs to be more control over that. Different options that can be set by the party leader that says Free lot, Random Distribution, or Leader Distribution for instance.

Tight knit groups probably wouldn't really find the need to worry about ninja lotters or players who won't pass an item that one of their friends can utilize better. However, sometimes that's not always the case. Pick up party members are pretty popular as well and there needs to be some security.

I hate to quote WoW but i think is a good distribution system, i mean the leader of the group chose how they want to distribute loot. For now its not a big deal but when higher quality of equipment gonna drop the actualy system could cause drama. (already see or heard linkshell that already have drama over that).

The system already does the random roll for you, and it asigns the drop to your loot list.
if you do not want the piece, you can simply trade it from the loot list to another player.

adding more player intervention methods to the game opens up alot of abuse. especialy if you get a master looter type setting involved(as nice as it is, you will get more abuse of it with people ninjaing stuff then in any other system out there)

With this in mind, dont run things with people at random if you care that much about drops. Run it with people you trust who know how to use the trade button in the loot window.

Master loot is not a bad tool, and i have gotten ninja'd in WOW with it, but i do not blame the tool, i blame the person, and i should have known better when joining some random raid in the first place.

Plus in this game it would be different, in here you have one toon, in wow you can just change your name, or make a new toon, and nobody knows if you are a ninja looter or not, not so much in this game

As much as I may not care that much about it, I support having the option of different loot distribution types.

Seems to me like she needs to go back to wow with those pulling skills of hers ;)

Without a looting/lotting system what ever you want to call it, endgame will be a very bad experience. there has to be some way for a linkshell/company to control who gets what.

This random system will lead to theft of rare items in the end. Such as you are a newbie at an event who just joined the linkshell and the game randomed uber leet piece to you... or you are a mage and the top tanking shield just dropped to you.

Some form of lotting control is required, there can be nothing but problems at endgame without one.

you guys too slow, I moved to the next mob but those ppl still can not kill the old one even it just something like a mole

this game is slow enough to bore me why you can't play it faster

we attacked attacked a set of gnats and you ran off into the distance and attacked a bomb and died
then you pulled a bomb, 6 djiggas, 6 moles, and we are slow?
sorry doesnt work that way, you were paying attention here instead of in game like you were supposed to

and you NEVER pull the next set before the current set dies, there is no excuse for that, unless you dont pay attetnion.

ive already got my solution for it anyway, if you cant pay attetnion, you wont get invites from me for the next few days when im running behests there :)

Yeah seriously guys, speed up she was all over those yellow named monsters while you were killing that red mole over there. These people are just too darn slow, they should all go back to WoW!!

My lightning fast reflexes are lost on this game. We should all play faster and click faster man, is it hot in here? I'm hot, man, why am I so itchy man, it's itchy in here.

Game bores me too with its slowness man, so slowy slow slow.

The Current system already does a "Roll the Dice" System it just does it automatically and in the background including everyone in the group. If someone gets something in their loot bag they do not want its up to them to pass it.

This prevents people from lotting on an item then getting kicked because the leader decides he doesn't want that player to get the item.

I don't understand how a looting system that isn't Rock-Paper-Scissors doesn't work... It's always worked for me irl.

If your party cant kill a set of mobs fast enough, why would you go and pull an entire new set of mobs and die in the process ?

because I used to be in other groups that they can kill each mob within 3~5 sec so I just do every behest with speed I used too

this was a 7 man behest, not a 15 man behest
the speed at which stuff is killed is lessened when there are less people

and that still doesnt excuse the fact you kept pulling and pulling, when the mobs you first pulled were alive, and the 2nd set was still alive, and the 3rd set was still alive

nor does it excuse the fact you pulled the non agro mobs, and brung all the agroing ones with you

or the fact you werent designated the puller

Back to the topic, i think what people, mostly linkshell leader want is more tool for the loot part. I would hate to see a guy getting a loot that he can't equip (well have no use to it) that the linkshell work hard to get.

I'd like more player options for loot. My husband and I duo alot of play with another friend, we all know who needs what. As the system is atm. we need to stop and give the loot to one or the other, or trade. Trading is slow and tedious, inventory room is sparse. I much raher have a screen pop up on screen where we can pass or roll accordingly to our situation.

For normal partying with strangers or whatever, i agree, the current system is pretty nice and leads least to grieving.

My vote: give us a choice.

i vote for manual lotting with the current system u guys are saying ppl can play keep the item even though you requested in advance. and it can happen anywhere with anyone . LS included plus what about bound items that may get added. that and i love to gamble im irish.

I want a global loot pool and for people to "loot" oh wait a minute, just like XI.

The current system in XIV makes it too easy for people to steal items, and people DO because this is the interwebs.

Maybe not a random loot but, they can implement the /random command, for these items that more than 1 people may want.

The ones that don't want it, just pass the item, and the ones who want it /random and the higher number takes it. Just need to pray the ones that lost pass the item : /
