Has anyone else had their antivirus freakout when loading the "tales of Eorzea" page based on the jpg from daevaofwar?
I had the same problem. I use Avast.
Avast sucks...
I have had AVG, McAfee and Norton freak out. looks like the potential of a targeted attack. Could have been a change to the target file after it was selected for the contest. Please be cautious and take care not to let your account be stolen.
Post Scribo,
No i do not run multiple antivirus programs on the same OS install, i am a very paranoid person. for a look into my paranoia, see my post about smartphone security token applications here.
I'm using McAfee no freak outs here.
Isn't McAfee the one that would wreck your system if it was on your computer but you weren't paying for the subscription anymore...
I don't know. I don't pay for it. It's provided by by ISP.
eset nod32 completely blocks the image and wont let me view it lol
I got Norton 360 and i tried going to it and just exited outta my tab and said that it blocked a intrusion into my system. so.............*shrugs*
You're not alone.
I used virustotal.com to scan the SE forum page and the 'threatening' image. Both looked clean. Still, didn't attempt to load the image to see what it was.
Tried the url, Kaspersky says the file carries a trojan. I'm not going to try and see if it's right about it or not. I trust Kaspersky completely.

I could jump over to Win8 RTM I have on a separate partition. see if it mucks it up. Don't care if that dies. I'm going to wait till I upgrade hardware before I switch over to Win8
yeah there is a virus warning
opened and nothing happened. scanned system found nothing. I'm only running windows defender thats part of win8 which is really MSE. just a LS photo anyway.
Images do this sometimes if there edited with pirated photo editors used to happen to me while using Adobe Photoshop and coral's paint shop pro. there's nothing wrong with the image itself, likely one of many anti piracy measures.
or it could be a high jacked webpage/redirected links and those are generally bad.
Just as a side note, you can inject executable code into a jpg. this was once a widely used exploit with bo2k. you could "silk rope" a "butt trumpet" version of bo2k into a jpg and it would install on the openning of the picture. a pirated version of an image editor would be a prime source to find such malicious software adding such an exploit to any picture file you edited with that pirated software.
