The Ghostly Touch

In the land of Eorzea in which its lore features so much death, tragedy and ruins it lacks in the ghostly goings on department. Increase in ghostly/undead activity is also pretty easily explained away with all the destruction caused by Bahamut and the release of a whole lot of Aether(Spirit/Life energy) onto the land. I think it could add alot to the games atmosphere and bring life to some of those dungeons that besides monsters are mostly void of life.

List of ideas so far:

• Ghosts/Spirits wandering the halls and tunnels of the many ruins and other appropriate places at certain times of the day(Not necessarily at night if the area is enclosed).
• Ghosts/Spirits repeating certain dialogue in text e.g songs, rhymes, An important moment in their past life.(We've seen that SE can make autonomous dialogues between Npcs)
• Ghostly noises, moaning, chattering, Whispering telling you to leave that could escalate. (rather than just coming out of the blue to be fair on peoples hearts)
• Objects being moved by an invisible force, shackles rattling, even objects being thrown at you.
• Docile Spirits becoming hostile when you ignore their warnings to stay away from some where private to them or they protected when they were living(Like if they were a guard before they died).
• Ghostly FATE at night; the night becomes even darker, a thick ghastly mist appears, the music changes to deep horrifying tones... and bam! Ambushed by sneaky ghosts popping out of nowhere!
• Creation of a subspecies of Gargoyle/Gargouille that starts off as a targetable statue and when a character is stood nearby facing away from it, it comes to life. Golden Needles/Stona could be used to reveal and weaken them. As well as the game switching up the statues so players can never be sure which are just statues and which are Gargoyles.

They could all add to the atmosphere and depth of areas where death occurred. It could be as simple as a specter appearing in a chair at a certain time and then fading away. The sort of thing that could make you stop and say "I've come here many times and never seen that before"

I'm sure there have been threads like this before but what do you guys think? What would you like to see SE add regarding ghostly happenings and eerie events? I will come back and update as we discuss!

There was a dungeon in FFXI that had ghostly activity, thought it was pretty freaky at first because there was also the sound of an alarm that would go off from time to time. lol Places like that were awesome though, just hunting for that magicked skull kinda sucked xD

And if you look at them they cover their eyes!

I can see that for halloween event only. Implementing that for actual gameplay might kill the joy as we might end up going there all the time for a some reason.

I remember that place, but I don't remember what it was called. It had such a haunting atmosphere. I loved that.

Gusgen Mines ^^ its actually partially what inspired me to make this thread.

I love this idea! Having ghosts or creepy stuff sounds awesome :D

I approve of this. I'm also very easily scared. I'm going to be waking people up in the middle of the night if they add this >_> ....

What about the Weeping Angels of old, you look at them they are statues, but the second you turn away they are fast... don't even blink... Blink and your dead, that would be fun.

It would make the atmosphere people are asking for wouldn't it? I'll make sure the BBC doesn't sue over it as well :D

Actually SE could do this, While Gargoyles are already in game in the form of gargoilles they could have a subspecies that starts out as a statue like older games. They come to life when your so close to them and your character is facing away from them. To add a bit of nostalgia you could allow players to target them to force reveal and perhaps weaken them by using Golden Needles/Stona(In FFIX Softs killed Gargoyles) =D Some of them could be just statues and some of them not and the game could switch them up so you could never be sure which are which.

Edit:I can see SE finding different and elaborate ways for statues to suddenly reveal themselves as Gargoyles.

I wouldn't mind more monster types that generally freak people out.

A few that always made me want to run away (especially as a Taru) in FFXI that I always enjoyed were...

Diremites
Minotaurs
Those gigantic moth things in the ToAU zone with Cerberus in it (particularly the ones that were fully grown and could fly.) I hated these a LOT.

I've been saying this a few times throughout XIV. Gusgen Mines is one of my favourite places in XI (Arrapago Reef my most favourite place and has a similar feel). This is a good idea.

I liked the ghosts in gusgen (Especially the ones that were hanged from the ceiling), so I'm all for a haunt in ARR for our ghastly friends.

I never went to Gusgen Mine alone in FFXI nor did I wanted to! That place was scary!!
Thus, I approve of this suggestion. We truly need strong ghostly touches in Eorzea, undeads are part of the lore too!

I thought about the FATE system and ghosts too! and i agree especially in the way your wrote it =P added to the list.

Edit: i didnt actually know what slender men were till i just checked now i assumed you ment skeletons =P I guess SE can find a way to implement them if they want to i mean they could be long dead angry relatives of hildibrand or who knows! They remind me of the gentlemen i think they were called? from buffy the vampire slayer tv series those guys were about the scariest things in the show that i remember.

Perhaps there are already plans when it comes to the undead. Remember that "Ascian" from one of the story cut scenes? It was never really explained or fleshed out.

Perhaps but we can still share our ideas in hopes SE pick them up.

You should read this if you haven't the Ascians are involved with a certain character in the Lominsan storyline.

Those Moths were mean, the Zombie Dragons too though they were less spread out. Minotaurs would feel right at home in a labyrinth...

I would love a good scare in ARR.

I meant Slender from Slender:Eight pages just because it's scary as hell! If we could have some FATE like that spread throughout Eorzea... man! That would be awesome!! (With FF mobs of course, but you get the idea)

I get the vibe that from the responces so far that i should say that not every Ghostly encounter has to end in Adventurers soiling themselves in fear. It could be as simple as a specter appearing in a chair at a certain time and then fading away. mmhmmm for some reason i cant help but think of a pacman style puzzle involving Gargoyles and a maze of narrow hallways...
