GAME TIME, NOT IRL TIME!
Don't you know? Ul'dah never sleeps! now, where have I heard this before? :p
Flashbacks to arriving at FFXI guilds one Vana'diel minute too late.
KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!
No >.> Had this in XI..just made rmt bots camp the NPCs to resell stuff while the shops were closed
No thanks.
There is such a thing as too much realism in my video games. I'd prefer not.
Not everything from ff11 was a good idea, this being one of those things.
No thank you. This is a game, not a real life simulator.
I suggest a compromise: Have tiny shops outside the main cities have operation hours. Say, one of the NPCs in Hyrstmill or Aleport close down for the night. Main cities though, their shops have to cater to adventurers. Would make more sense to keep the shops open 24/7 in a city.
Don't really need the entire world shutting down at the strike of 9pm (in game), but having NPCs exhibit a little bit of life would only add to the world. Then again, I can easily see how this would become an annoyance.
Yeah, of course there was legit playrs doing this too. Brings back "fond" memories...
5am at the Cooking Guild....like 20 lvl 1 mules lined up at the npcs...5:01am game time..all the rice is sold out. Mules log off.
Substitute rice for yarn/cotton/threads/ingots/etc lol
Having this system makes it harder for rmt because they have a clock to deal with
I'm assuming you mean RMT. We shouldn't be putting systems like this in place that punish legit players because of RMT. This is just a major annoyance. That's not a good reason to make players who may have limited play time also deal with a clock, especially for something as simple as buying items from an NPC.
Lazy attempt at a thread OP.
It doesn't, they will just buy loads of items from NPCs, manipulate the markets and sell them overnight for what they want, people will buy them because they are impatient, and not to mention if you are 1 min late you have around 30 mins to wait to buy something.
Night for who? And then what about night-shift players? etc etc.
Selling anything over the odds, to take advantage of something like time limits is ripping people off, if a laptop costs $500, and one exactly the same somewhere else costs $700, the more expensive one is a rip off because they might be taking advantage of location, necessity, or other things.
I love it. :)
Wouldn't mind a cool shop switch over to a night market. Don't close it though
So let's say I decide to sell candy bars, that I work for, for 1 buck each. Prices competitive with with my competitors.
Then someone who acquires these same candy bars, through illegal means, sells them for 10 cent each. I'm still considered a ripoff?
It's the RMTs who take advantage of players using their soul less means of acquiring items that actual people have to work for and sell them on the market for extremely low values. Players don't want to compete with it because they would be ripping themselves off.
Not a very good idea overall. Especially since tomorrow is Black Friday. Why would the NPC markets not open at Midnight for their door buster sale?
I actually liked this idea in FFXI, most people are just impatient.
i didn't like it in ffxi. you get in mood to craft or you get some time between events for like an hour to craft and bam it's firesday and your locked out of items. though in ffxiv we don't have a huge need for npc's but in the likeliness and possibility of that changing i say just keep them open.
they push this casual crap down our throats all year long so i doubt they would want this added. everything they are creating this mmo around right now is everyone doing everything "when they want" so it doesn't fit that. ..i don't agree with this idea totally but for shops i would say yeah sucks if you can't cram even 20-30mins in cause a shop is closed.
I think this kind of stuff could work well overall beyond just shops - I'd really like to see the whole town have a sense of time. Right now no one cares if its raining of if its on fire. Add more complex behaviors latter once released if you they dont have time but it would be great to see NPC's rushing from dry spot to dry spot when raining (or night / day responses).
Can add movement without being frustrating (lock outs and such).
So yeah I think so as well :P
Sure close the shops at night because that's never been a hassle to have to wait 30 minutes for them to open back up, but why stop there why not allow the NPCs to all migrate to the residential wards and disappear for the night, why would they stand there in place all day and night but only decide to sell during the day? I mean if you have to stay at your place of work why not just help a customer out.
Great idea, so those people who cant play at certain times are screwed out of NPC usage, brilliant...

No really...dealt with this enough in XI. Do not want dat shit up in hurr
