Do you guys think SE should come up with a better/more catchy name for 2.0?
I mean WoW has a coolness factor to it....like "wow is such a wow game"
However, ARR sounds like "argh" it doesn't sound like an auspicious start for 2.0 :(

Arrrrrrrrr ye matey!
It's called A Realm Reborn, because our realm of Eorzea has come from the verge of destruction to be reborn by the survivors of Bahamut's rage, when I say FFXIV: ARR, I call it Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn, not ARR therefore because of what happened it's a perfect name.
We need better names like Final Fantasy XIV: Wrath of the (insert) or Final Fantasy XIV: Cataclysm...nothing with meaning behind it like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn or Final Fantasy XIV: Wings of the Goddess..you know, to symbolize a realm rebirth or the fact we, the players (adventurers storywise) are the hope of the goddess to protect the world etc.
I still just call it "fourteen". My friends who don't play it know what I mean by that. Not many (any?) other mainstream games have reached that number in their series.
I think when/if they see "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" being advertised, they will most likely consider that it's an expansion, unless they care to remember that I've mentioned it's being remade.
FF XIV: Electric Boogaloo
I can't personally think of a better name at this moment in time.
The current subtitle captures what is trying to be advertised. That the game has been recreated and is "born anew" from the bottom up. It's really up to SE's marketing department to drive the nael home when it comes to the gaming press and I think the subtitle makes for an easy jumping off point.
I'll be excited to see what we names people can suggest though.
I see what you mean, also whenever I told friends about FFXIV their big beef with it was that it shouldn't have been a numbered Final Fantasy, they said they'd have prefered if it was just Final Fantasy Online or something. (Though people had the same issue with XI)
Final Fantasy XIV-2?
Final Fantasy XV?
All out of creativity, sorry :(
I'll just go with "Arr ye matey!"
Final Fantasy XIV: the greener grass
I think that's the trickiest part about the subtitle. It does make it seem like just an expansion. For those unaware they might not know that's it's a tremendous overhaul. I could actually see some of the gaming press opening up their stories with, "We'll be testing out the new expansion for Square-Enix's dismally launched Final Fantasy XIV."
While those in the know would understand that it's not an expansion, the uninformed press and gaming public will assume that it is at a glance.
Unfortunately I don't see how you can advertise it without it looking like an expansion pack. I mean, they are adding new areas, jobs, cutscenes, and gear to the backdrop of a game that was released in 2010 so I think technically it could be considered an expansion albeit a massive overhaul of one. It will just be important to get to the gaming press that this expansion completely revamps the entire game to the point that it converts old game disc into an expensive cupholder.
If the gaming press call it an expansion they are just incompetent they should be following the news knowing it's a new game, you don't need a new client download for an expansion (from a point of view).
The press will not want the stigma of incompetence so they will not refer to it as an expansion.
Anything remotely close to pirate speak is automatically cool, sorry.
Agreed. It's really up to SE marketing to sale the game, both to players and the gaming press. The press often repeat whatever the companies say anyways pre-launch since they need good relations with big companies like SE. I don't see any reason why the bigger names in the gaming press won't give XIV a fair shake.
The FF series has consistently gotten high scores. Many would say too high. It's been the fan base themselves that have flown the most mud at the series in recent years, with good reason I believe. It's those same fans that will really determine XIV's success, no matter how the press presents XIV in the end.
No. "WoW" doesn't have any "coolness" factor, it's an acronym, and a bland one as that.
Final Fantasy has "Final Fantasy" In the name, that's plenty. The "A Realm Reborn" part is a simple matter of significance.
PS: Any gaming press that calls it an "expansion" shows that they haven't even paid attention to official press releases, which says a lot on their professionality.
FFxiv:this time were for real
FFXIV: Same Sex Marriages on HD Grass
Some suggested new names:
FFXIV: Rick Rolled / Never gonna give you up
FFXIV: Phoenix Down Bitches
FFXIV: scapegoat tanaka
FFXIV : Threads
It should be called Final Fantasy XIV: Two Point Oh
i got a better one.. what about... a realm something... Realm Reborn? without the A
FFXIV: A Troll Too Far.
I hereby name vanilla FFXIV - FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE: Rokien.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Butthurt Bahamut.
FFXIV: ABB.
they just need the Musketeer/Pirate class at launch, why are pirates so cool? they just ARR.
Or it would have been better if Phoenix was in Dalamud then it could have been called, The Phoenix Rises.
OR they can release DRK at launch and call it "The Dark Knight Rises" XD
Nah... I'm sure it'll be fine.
Whenever Dark Knight gets released, it should be called, FFXIV: The Dark Knight.
I think SE should just call it FFO (Final Fantasy Online)
They should rename it into "World of Final Fantasy"
"World of Fantasycraft" maybe it does attract more players, eh? ;XD
The Land Before Live Free or Final Fantasy XIV: The Primal Menace - 3D Director's Cut
