It was reported by CNET that Direct X 11.1 will be for Windows 8 exclusively. Wonder if SE planned to upgrade to that in the future. If so be prepared to upgrade to Windows 8 if you want its benefits(?).

I doubt it will offer many benefits tbh.
I also don't mind going to Windows 8 once the community has modded it so it's not appalling.
Vista wasn't that bad once the community had released a series of mods for it. 7 was basically all of what the community did built in.
When directx 12 and 13 comes out..then SE should be thinking of upgrading. Windows 8 however...

Isn't 11.1 just for 3D?
That the dumbest thing every i don't know why M$ even release a new OS when Window 7 is fine -.-. TBA Window 8 should just have been a Service pack 2 for window 7 and just have put a big price tag on it -.-
I'll say with window 7 i pay money for it and it should last and get 11.1 DX also seem a little unfair and making us get there new os lol.
Yes and that would be vista then follow by window 7 why was the need of releasing other window so soon from there last big hit? i mean everything in window 8 could have been a Service pack 2 and they could have put a price tag on that like that would have done anyways.
I would buy window 9 or w/e only like you said i need it for new hardware if not then it'[s just other OS to get money.
Well it's probably based on the fact that they want to compete with Apple for the tablet based OS.
Though, I agree it's stupid. Most people using Windows 8 are going to find a way to disable to tablet UI and use it like a normal OS.
I was thinking of formatting soon, so I was going to have a look to see if Windows 8 was any good.
Funny thing is that I just installed Windows 8 yesterday out of sheer boredom (I got it for $15 lol). I don't have any problems with it other than the Windows 8 version of Internet Explorer 10 sometimes doesn't want to work. Other than that, it's good. I LOVE the travel app that's built-in on the Start UI. I love the different places in the world and it will be great with educating (I worked at a daycare and I'm trying to find another center to work at, though I doubt I will bring my laptop there to educate; maybe a Surface Pro 8 tablet later on). Transferring files and backing up to an external hard drive is a lot faster. Oh, and my drivers got updated to newer versions, including my processors from Intel (went from the 2006 WHQL on Win7 to 2009 on Win8).
I will tell you that I did do some benchmarks for games and while the benchmarks do lag a bit, I can tell that the NVIDIA drivers aren't optimized yet for the OS. They were the same way when Windows 7 launched, from my experience.
EDIT: Oh, and NVIDIA drivers have had DirectX 11.1 support for a few months, it's just that Windows Vista/7/8 has not updated their Runtime version yet. FYI :)
If there's a major issue with an OS, it'll be fixed fast.
I remember UAC with Windows Vista.
DX 11.1 includes some XNA stuff mainly. I don't think DX 11.1 really matters much since we are going to be using D3D 9 on desktops for the foreseeable future.
They altered the scale of the Windows Experience Index with Windows 8. Now each score caps at 9.9.

SSDs are mad pricey :( I want one, but eh...
your video card is gonna have to use DX11.1 to even use it. and the games you play will have to use it too.
the .1 really has nothing new mostly updated stuff.
i dont see no reason to leave win7 no one will just stop supporting it just because win8 is out, they still support win xp.
you get higher scores on windows 8 too. when i did a install on my system. im dang near capped on my system lol. down below is win7
