5 years to the future

I know it hasn't been confirmed we were teleported 5 years into the future.

Just that ARR takes place 5 years in the future.

But in any case, I showed the video to someone with zero knowledge and she asked me why didn't the elvaan send us to the past to prevent Dalamud's falling.

I drew a blank.

Why didn't we get ported to the past in order to prevent it?

because if we coudn't win with the help of 12 gods, sending us in the past would changed nothing ? Not speaking of all the time paradox being in the past averting an apocalypse never happened at that point

Well, it was Nael's proyect, not the empire's. Gaius is against dalamud, for example.

Just taking Nael out before he set things in motion would have been enough. Instead of running around taking out avatars, feeding Dalamud

Because the entire point of the 7th Umbral Era story was to explain all of the giant game/map changes.

According the lore posted on the SE site we weren't teleported 5 years into the future, we were sent into an aetherial rift that sounds like some sort of limbo where we will stay for 5 years lore-wise.

We didn't travel right to the future, so in a sense it wasn't "time travel". Louisoix ported us to some unknown area (alternate dimension) where we lay safe until it's time to come back to rebuild. 5 years pass before it's safe.

Maybe it isn't an actual time travel spell, but rather a spell that takes us out of the dimension we live in. So we experience a passing of seconds but the world aged 5 years.

Maybe it was a spur of the moment thing by Louisoix and the first thing he thought of was sending us to the future. He was getting blown up by a megaflare at the time, not much room for processing information.

Maybe he felt we had already exhausted all options and Bahamut/Dalamud couldn't have been stopped no matter what we did in the past.

I think I prefer the first idea. I believe it would make the story flow a lot better.

Sending someone in the past can have disastrous consequences.

Because SE wanted a good excuse for the landscape changing so drastically. The landscape had to change because it was just way too repetitive as it was. SE wants all changes to be part of the lore so that it doesn't break away from the immersion.

Also, remember that Killing Van Darnus didn't really work, so even if he sent us to the past... to do what?

So can having a giant aether prison that is carrying Bahamut come crashing on to the planet.

Rather than a time-travel spell, it was said that we were "taken out of time". Think of it as being put into Stasis for 5 years.

Come on people! Everyone knows that when you travel in to the past and alter the course of time, you end up creating multiple dimensions of the same world that ultimately result in the creation of Abyssea and the total destruction of a good MMO.

*sighs* "use your brain" uh?

And when would you send the adventurers? and where? Umbral Eras are a natural occurrence, Dalamud continued to fall simply because the sevent umbral era was inevitable.

Lou himself says that destroying the controller should have definitely stopped dalamud, but it did not.

I think that Dalamud falling was inevitable, no amount of time traveling could stop it without disasterous consequences even if it were an option. If you killed Nael in the past ignoring paradox issues, you dont know Bahamut wouldn't find another to replace him. If you go back and stop Bahamut's creation chances are the future is changed so greatly that everyone in the present would be erased from existence. That and fighting a flying baby Darnus would be more comical than compelling =P
