Speaking objectively, what is the likelihood you will be back in ARR?
How much of a factor is the downtime going to play?
I'm expecting to loose at least 30% of my friends on Excal to this transitional phase.

100% I will be back. Downtime won't play a factor, I'll just have to breath fresh air more often.
If nothing major happens in my life then I'll be back 100%. The wait time doesn't mean anything.
Nor hell should bar my way.
100% I wait with bated breath, ready to once again throw punches and break the noses and bones of Garlean forces. They shall fear the mighty taru Monk.
im coming back 100% dont care how long it takes....
Of course people will lose interest as time goes on but i think i may be right in saying the last 6 months anyone that was playing is a fan of Final Fantasy and will be also coming back regardless...the ones that didnt stay however might be tempted back once the publicity machine gets going.
I will be here!
I think with the hype SE created with the trailer today they should carefully maintain it with regular updates on ARR and stuff to grab more and more people attention again, but if they take too long to release more info and the game the hype will die pretty fast.
I've returned to WoW until I get a beta invite and/or release of ARR. I will be back though, and I may actually have some friends following me to ARR from WoW.
The End of an Era trailer alone has impressed a few people I know who have never played XI or XIV.
After everything I've been through with 1.0, I'll definitely be back.
I agree with both Undrentide and Dannythm. Momentum and communication is key. Without it they won't loose everyone, but they will loose some, and gain none.
Not only will I be back, I'll be leading the best Linkshell in Balmung. :D
Barring problems in real life, I will be back no matter how long.
Eorzea hasn't seen the last of me!
Not even death, the Garleans, or Bahamut himself will keep me from coming back in A Realm Reborn. I will be back!
NO!
...
Maybe?
...
...Yes.
Actually, the downtime is important to me.
It proves that they will release ARR when the game is ready, not when it is economically convenient.
HUGE props to Yoshida-san et al for making this decision.
Sure thing.
This right here.
If anything, the longer downtime is giving me even more faith and incentive to play ARR whenever it finally comes. The time is being taken to make sure that it is going to succeed and redeem Final Fantasy XIV as a whole.
Also, I'll be 100% coming back anyways to avenge St. Louisocks.
for sure will be back, 24man crystal towers is the major reason. makes me think there is a going to be large scale stuff with each expansion. also this is still the best game out even pre 2.0.
also i doubt anyone will not come back to at least check out the game, anyone saying otherwise is probably lying. now do i think the game won't die out after 6months after relaunch? well that is still to be seen.
2days left till cod blackops 2, i'll finally have some time to enjoy shooters and offliners for a bit.
well who stayed in this (partly!) horrible game (server latency, graphics engine which just can display about 20 peops at once, instable framrate) for that long .. is interested enough to come back afterwards.
on the contrary if they not switched off the server... if they wouldnt have developed a new FFXIV mostly everyone of us have been left much time ago. the biggest reason (in our deepest inside) why we stayed is because of 2.0. and not of 1.0. (although it got updated)
and it would be silly to not keep an eye on 2.0. then? wouldnt it? 2.0. is one of the major reasons why we moved on in 1.0.
Hey, look! A doom and gloom post, and not even that smart of one.
Everyone's gonna get at least a free month when ARR launches. Downtime will not factor at all, nor it should.
There may be a negligible percentage of people that will just give up the chance to play a new AAA game for free (however completely nonsensical that may be), but it will be, as mentioned, negligible.
lolthirtypercent.
Anyone actively posting right now better bloody well be coming back, or they should just piss off...

I'll be back.
...Just going to try to finish all these other games i have laying around while waiting for that alpha invite. :p
who would suffer all 1.0 and not play 2.0
I think you'd have to be insane to play 1.0 and not even try 2.0. However, it's not being crazy if someone played 1.0 quite a bit and then didn't bother going forward with 2.0 after trying it out. We were all propelled forward by our desire to see FFXIV change into a game that didn't suck and the fact that our progress will be transferred over. If 2.0 fails to live up to a person's expectations, then there really is nothing left to keep that player going at that point.
I'll be back for certain. I know a lot of hardcore players who will be returning.
The promise of 2.0 is so strong that most people are just painfully waiting. The real worry at this point is how they keep people interested.
I'll be honest. While I don't usually allow myself to be swooned by CGI because it's normally not indicative of gameplay, the End of an Era trailer has solidified my interest, and no matter what games come out between now and then, I WILL return, as I'm sure many others will.
Of course, it's a complete reboot.
I will definitely be back, no matter how long it takes, in the meantime I shall just play FFXI.
The fact that everyone that ever purchased the game will get at least a free month is a good reason why this thread has no reason to even exist.
Oh yeah, I'll be back. I would have stopped playing a long time ago if I wasn't planning to come back for ARR.
The downtime just gives the game a chance to ripen fully before release.
100% I will be back, and the downtime will only make me hungrier for it.
100%, I will be back unless circumstances don't allow it (death, injury, financial disaster, etc).
Definitely, unless something IRL happens. Would be dumb to stick with the game this long and quit before it got to the good part. :)
Doesn't matter how long it takes, I'll 100% be back come ARR!! I can't wait!! ^^
