New contest - again only for a small amount of player

Again SE, a lot of people cant participate for a signed poster of Yoshi-P! I really dont know why i should keep supporting Square-Enix. It gives me the feeling of those who dont life on the listed countries dont count for Square-Enix.

I thought the first one was like: we test it out, lets see whats happening. But now the "whats if dalamud" contest is over, and a lot of people said its unfair for those who dont life in the small amount of cities to not let them participate, but Square-Enix did it again.

(If you find spelling mistakes keep them, english isnt my main language.)

You chose to support a company that likely has no support for your nation. If you live in Europe, yeah it can be spotty at times, but as stated by everyone including SE: Laws. You can't even run raffles now without some form of interactivity outside of the usual "pick numbers and pray."

no, once again thats the "something for everyone" mentality. Its nice that SE have contest with IRL items that you can touch with your actual hands, and it really sucks that some people cant participate. Taking it away from everyone because some people cant play is just dumb. People should write letters to there government instead of complaining to SE.

Then quit and don't come back. Nobody is stopping you. You have free will and can choose to stay or go.

I'm so sick and tired of people complaining and saying "I hate this or that" and "I'm going to quit". Please, for once, do what you say you are going to do and don't come back. The rest of us will be here and we will be just fine without your negativity.

A solution could be to have one competition where these four countries can participate with a physical item, and one for the rest of the countries with a virtual item.

That said, I find it hard to believe that 46/50 European countries won't allow competitions like this. I think it's more a matter of it being more convenient for SE to do it the way they're doing it now.

even here in the us certain states have weird laws with contest prizes and stuff.

Like it or not, its a known fact for european people.

These kinds of QQ posts always amuse me. It's like they really believe SE does this sort of thing JUST to spite them or because the company is bias or whatever petty thing.

Laws restrict certain things in certain countries. I remember the fiasco XI had when they first introduced the Mog Bonanza. They stated they got into some legal issues with the government because it was technically "gambling". So for the subsequent bonanzas they changed up the rules and made disclaimers that none of the items had any real world value.

Complain to your government, it their fault not SE's.

The laws of many countries don't differentiate *at all* between physical and digital prizes.

SE is actually doing well at spreading contests around between regions. Most devs just chose one (normaly the US) and always go with that, ignoring the others.

That's not because the prizes are digital. That's simply because that's a big contest, so Square Enix could justify dedicating the legal and monetary resources (that aren't small) necessary to accomodate the legislation of every nation in every region.

Smaller, on-the-fly contests organized by local marketing teams don't justify that expense.

This latest contest is giving out Yoshi-p signed posters...which has SOME real world value, and thus can be seen as gambling or other raffle type.

It would be neat having a chance to get Yoshi's autograph, but oh well, maybe some other time ^_^ I'm just happy I was able to win one of those Scarves :3 (which, I still insist, the devs should allow me to wear as a loincloth instead!)

So in other words, it is a convenience issue.

The difference is the real world monetary value of the prizes. In the Gear design contest, the prizes specifically stated "No monetary value"

The wording on the prize for this new contest:

I don't understand this need to let people know what you think they are and what they aren't. I wish people would just say what they think about the issue, without getting personal.

But you're completely right, you're allowed to think whatever you want and then it's up to you if you want to post about it or not.

I feel you, but sadly there isn't much we can do other than ask them to keep trying.

Maybe one day they'll be able to bring physical (and eventual some digital) prizes to these areas.

Actually it is SE's fault. They have already shown in the past that they can make contests, fit for the whole of Europe.

They had even promised that they would expand this type of contest for more countries, but they haven't done anything to improve on this point. And we're not talking about having a few weeks or a few months: they had over two years.

My biggest annoyance however, isn't the fact I can't compete in this amazingly fun contest, it's that they keep calling it an "European contest", which it is not.

Agreed. As an Aussie, I fall into the European region according to SE but even if they wanted to go by only the countries that are really part of Europe, they're not doing that either. It would be good if they could stop calling them EU contests if that doesn't properly define them.

Honestly though, I get mails or approached in public regularly about raffles and other competitions that offer prizes with real dollar values (often asking me to buy $15-20 tickets for a chance to win some big house or something), so having another company say that they can't do that for legal reasons is a little frustrating...

In the end, there's nothing I can do about it (unless SE wants to share exactly what sort of legal problems they have in bringing these competitions to other parts of the world, then we can actually approach our politicians with something more appropriate than "Get out of SE's way!") so I'll just wish those lucky people (who happened to be born on a pin head) that can participate all the best of luck and fun. If nothing else, I can still enjoy the competition from the wayside ^_^

Especially since SE have been known to breach Australian trade law in our market in the past by region-locking (most of the industry does, so they become somewhat powerless as a result if someone here pirates their game). Your guess seems right on the mark but if anyone has a solid legality issue we could address, I'd certainly be willing to write a hand written letter (something that would cause me physical pain because of poor muscle and motor skill issues that cause excess strain in hand, arm and back when writing, but that's just how serious I am) to anyone who may have the ability to remedy that issue. I've tried looking for such details myself but with such a vague concept of what could be blocking them, I could read a hundred pieces of legislation, not understand a single word of the legalese and still not be able to find the problem.

I'm also an Aussie, and would have LOVED to enter into the "Memories of Eorzea" competition. I think it would be cool to give players an option of an online item or achievement or something to compensate players who are out of an acceptable region. I think I'm gonna post it anyway, because its an awesome photo and then maybe some people will see it! It's when we were training for speed runs in AV, fighting coincounter!
