Was wondering if a dev can give an answer as to whether or not we'll be needing the current version installed on our computers any longer after the servers go down on Nov. 11th.

If you're one of the 20 people who wants to log in after the worlds goes off and comes up, yeah keep it on. If not, nope. ARR client is completely different from 1.0's client.
If you want to see what going to happen the last days then no if you don't care then yes
100+ on durandal last night xD
I'm gonna uninstall after I witness the final trailer that's supposed to play when the impact timer reaches 0:00:00
The A Realm Reborn client is completely different from the current version, so it's fine to uninstall the game if you'd like!
However, please keep in mind that it will be possible to import your current character data to the ARR character creation benchmark to play around with. So if you'd like to do that, be sure to back up your FFXIV folder located in your My Games > FINAL FANTASY XIV before uninstalling. :)
Beautiful. Thanks Once I know the servers are down for good. I can safely and sadly remove 1.0.
Oh noes, what about macros? Or are those in that folder too?
Macros are in this folder too, can be a little tricky to find so I urge you to do this while you are able to log into the game;
If you've logged into a lot of characters such as alts and stuff, you're going to have a few user folders so this will be trial and error, but it shouldn't take long :) (But if you only have one of these folders, well I guess now you know where your macros are! haha)
Go to My documents/my games/final fantasy xiv/user and inside here you'll see some folders, one will be called 00000000 - This one doesn't contain macros, but the others will if you have any saved to those characters. The easiest way to determine which is which without screwing around going through chat logs is to just pull one folder out at a time, load up your game and see if your macros disappear.
If they don't, replace the folder, pull out a different one, load up final fantasy again and keep going until it does happen.
When you find the folder, write a note somewhere with the folder name so you won't forget it later, then replace it so you can use your macros again♪
the file inside that holds all your Macro information is called mcr0, hope this helps♪
(A small word of warning - macros may be saved in a different way some 2.0 so don't be surprised if you can't transfer them over^^; )
back it up back it up!
Every time I've uninstalled, I've lost my screenshots - The whole my games/final fantasy xiv folder was removed, kaput.
(Due to having a (tiny) 60gb HD and some major hardware issues over the last 2 years I've had to reinstall about 6 times, each time it's disappeared)
