I do wish there were different prizes then that scarf... but hopefully the entries will at least be fun to read
No EU account version coming?
I really hope there's no more improper and rude comments like this when there's a Rep as OP. They could be capable telling us all a story on how they deleted a post and banned a person they thought was really obnoxious.
I for one welcome SE's contests. I think the scarf reward is cheap though.
People are being ruuuude~
I'm under the impression that these little regional contests are put on my the moderators when they're bored, as they don't usually involve the development team unless there's an item to be made. Also, I bet this contest was made in response to fan requests for a Halloween event. Just enjoy it.
I think you missed the facetious and fictitious nature of his original intent. ^^;
Well, we never had this kind of flame war during the EU event. Isn't that right, Mjollnir?
If you don't like it, don't enter. Simple as that. No need to be rude.
Yes, there could have been more information with regards to ARR, but I'm going to place my bet on the server down date or shortly thereafter being the date for information - It's time then to invigorate new excitement for the game after all.
And, the scarf is rarer than relic, darklight, or a decent pickup group so if anything that's a bonus.
You have to understand that it's a level 1 item, for a contest open to players of all types. So any stats it could have would be overpowered at low levels or laughable at 50 - You don't see me using my Reindeer outfit to fight in. Well, you do. Just not for tougher stuff.
At the end of it all though, if you don't like it then don't do it. No need to flame.

I for one am content with the amount of info that's come out so far for ARR. Have you been looking at the translations threads, both JP & DE? Reps have been dropping tidbits for weeks now. Short of completely describing how a system (be it housing, markets, combat) works, there's little else they can do. Other FF games never described how they worked before they became available to the public, so why should XIV be any different? Discovery and analysis is part of the experience! :)
If you consider the benchmark software to be more interesting than a community storytelling event, that's your preference but surely you can see that a decent number players of a Final Fantasy game might be interested in this?
I am, and not as a contestant, but because the wide variety of talent in the community will make the submissions interesting to read (more interesting than being able to check my projected, but ultimately subject-to-change framerate). I love the comics we've had over the years. And I'll be VERY surprised if Bastok_Iamtheone doesn't hands-down win this particular competition.
People are being rude but at this point can we really blame them, just goes to show how irritated and upset people are at this point. Exactly 2 weeks till the character data save date and we are still left in the dark about a lot of ARR features and info.
I agree this is lame. I don't see the comments as being rude so much as people just being frustrated because of the BS we are getting or run around w/e you want to call it. It's typical SE bs to evade the issue at hand. People want info and they really don't want to wait till Nov. 1 to get maybe a small tidbit once again. It's time to do the right by the MMO people and give the info.
I have to agree with the angry people above. Not only have we been left in the dark about ARR but our amazing end of the world content and changes have been a joke with no word on anything else 13 days before shutdown. When the biggest news we get in the past week or so is a screenshot contest then people tend to get frustrated.
I also agree with the frustrated people. With the game so close to going down and having little to no info about when it will be back up, the beta, etc it just makes me wonder what is going on. I haven't logged in in idk how long, no point in playing anymore with almost no information, meh I feel like I just lost interest entirely because of their lack of info. Maybe its for the better lol.
The contest seems neat and a nice way of creating something neat since we can't have a Halloween event. However, the reward doesn't seem right for this contest. Don't even feel the need to try.
Once I get home from work I'm going to pen a little story- already had an idea. What a cute little idea ^^
Yes it is quite sad that SE's logic on communication is "If we don't have anything to say, don't say anything." when this is the most crucial time keeping us updated. While new players will be coming to 2.0, we are the true backbone in their customer base and we want to know what is going on.
But I apologize, we should be making a different thread regarding this.
It's SEs evil plan to get everyone to gather around the Aetheryte camp fire so they can spawn Atomos and smite you.
I... think I will participate in this....
LOL responded to myself...
What happened to the edit button?
This sounds like a nice addition at the end. And as far as the scarf, it need not do anything special, it need just be a trophy. You see someone wearing it and think "I wonder which contest they won?"
I've been thinking for a while that the state of these forums is an absolutely fascinating study in the decent from euphoric hope to depraved ranting in a matter of months. I haven't decided if who is to blame, or if anyone is, but it is clearly true. The tonal shift on these boards is so pronounced, it's amazing the servers don't physically catch fire.
I'm also starting to wonder if this is a chicken and egg problem. Did Yoshi-P stop visiting and posting personally because he doesn't want to give information, which inflamed the populous, or is there less information because the populous is inflamed and Yoshi-P is loosing momentum. God knows, reading these forums is enough to give anyway fits of depression. Though similar to the aforementioned chicken and egg, it's pretty much impossible to tell which came first.
This is why we can't have nice things ;)

I do understand people want 'Flood' of information regarding ARR but bit childish/rude to hijack a contest thread don't you think? How old are you??
There are other threads already talking about it and I am sure the reps are doing their best to try and get any information they can while they may have new info maybe they are not allowed to just post yet until they get the GO sign from YoshiP.
This doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not much of a story tale-teller but I look forward to a couple of ghost-stories.
SE and our community reps have to expect this type of behavior and post is SE plan to aim their product to a larger audience. You'll find some good, bad and ugly(if not childish & immature) people out there.
First, for the people who don't like these contests, then don't participate. Some people do like these kind of things so just let them enjoy it.
Second, the reps pass along all and any info they are able to. I'm sure you're aware of the fact that they can't just freely post anything that they want to. While I'd like more info about ARR just as much as the next guy, I'm not going to make a rude post to somebody who has no control over what information gets released and when. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
OP, While I agree that we're not getting much more information as time draws closer, you're lashing out at the wrong people, here. Do not forget, that the community was upset because it would be exempt from a Halloween event this year. It appears that because of this the mods are trying to appease us in the best way that they can, providing us a Halloween-oriented lore contest.
How dare they try to inspire fun and creativity to help pass the time!
I'm actually really happy with this contest! I'm actually sitting at the Coffer and Coffin now thinking of my story :3
Posted mine, the gauntlet has been thrown :D
