how do we check this? I am on right now and can check for Aegis
You mean I have to log in for this this? No thanks. ><
who cares?
The server pops after 2.0 start-up are a lot more important than the server pops for the 1.0 version before it dies.
It's useless data. the only thing people can say from it is "the game is dying!' or something to that effect. Others may make a correlation between the low populations now and suggest falliciously that 2.0 pops will be low as a result. Nothing can come out of this thread but negativity.
Because version 1.0 is shutting down imminently, data about current populations has little meaning. When ARR launches, then population data may be more meaningful.
1) what game has been in a similar situation?Quote:
it could be compared with other games which have been in similar situations. Don't like it?
2) what is the value in making such a comparison?
For science of course!

(seriously though lol, collecting statistics is often useful only later and just bean counted initially for the hell of it)
1) Aion would be a shining example, and any game that has shut down. (which is essentially what is happening here)
2) All data has value.
More importantly, obtaining the data damages nothing.
Which brings me back to your very first post in this thread: "Who cares?"
Clearly some of us do.
A better question would be:
Pre-Shutdown Server Pops that are actually doing anything other than standing in Uldah looking sexy.
Go.
1) I'm not aware that Aion is being shutdown and rebuilt from the ground up. Also, most games that shut down aren't being reactivated with a new version, so it's not a valid comparison.Quote:

3) No, not all data has value. You haven't shown me what useful purpose this data can serve beyond gloom and doom. What will these comparisons tell you? what impact will it have on what decision?
That data might actually be slightly useful...Quote:

Actually, server population data can be damaging to all servers except the one with the highest population. All too often you have people coming in here asking what server to join and they say "Which one is the most populated?" Thus, people gravitate toward that server while the other ones get starved of new players.Quote:

Yes. All data has value. If you honestly think otherwise I've been overestimating your common sense.
The usage on the data can be something as small as comparison to future data that has been collected, or as grand as a decision maker as to make the speculation whether ARR would be successful.
It could also be compared with early ARR data to compile a statistical graph on the population gain over time.
Or even as a base. All data is valuable.
