Alright SE, its time to stop being jerks and let us actually WATCH the cutscenes for your fights DURING the fight. The whole point of the cutscenes is to tell the story and excite the player. Unfortunately, I have to skip every cutscene you make because 1) you allow them to be skipped so anyone that has seen it once wants to skip it 2) they cut in to the battle timer so most of the time you have to skip it
I keep taking LS mates through the To Kill A Raven fight and to ensure we have enough time to beat it I have to tell everyone to skip the cutscenes. This hurts me to my core and I feel like an ass everytime I do, but when we've tried to watch them we always run into time issues.
Are there any plans to change this in 2.0? I'm tired of watching the cutscenes on my own in my inn room. They aren't nearly as epic and awesome when its just me in it instead of the whole party standing behind me. On top of this, I miss the buildup for the fights I'm doing!
Please find a solution for this. Freeze all characters that skipped the CS until everyone is out of it? Make the new area not pop until everyone is out? SOMETHING please :(

This is a community issue more than anything. People are in such a rush to get things done that they tend to skip the cutscenes, especially those who don't care about the story much. All they care about is loot loot loot. I agree that it's nice to skip the cutscene once you've seen it the first time, but people should just have the common courtesy to expect that people are going to want to watch it the first time.

They should just make cutscenes unskippable the first time you see them, so everyone has to view it once. That way no one can get mad at first timers for not skipping.

I'm with the OP though. cutscenes shouldn't interfere with timers.
What XI did though was it gave you the cutscene before you went into the fights. you effectively clicked on a fight got a cutscene and then when everyone was ready you clicked on it again to start the actual fight.Quote:

10-09-2012, 08:07 AMElexiaExactly, this is why it worked so well, even mid fight cutscenes freeze timers or resets (depending on the fight) to allow recovery/buff time and doesn't start the timer until you engage the mob however in some instances the timer begins once the enemy/NPC helper gets tired of waiting and charges in (Prishe, Lilisette etc). This is what actually felt much more like a FF game (cutscene > fight more so than cutscene while you start the fight.)Quote:

I agree completely with OP. I've never seen a community so hostile to enjoying the games storyline as I have with XIV. But I don't blame players because the fact is SE designed it so that players are effectively "punished" with timers if they dare take the time to enjoy their own cut scenes.
I really hope they fix this in 2.0. It'd be really disheartening if it continued when Yoshi-P is constantly going on about story being a big feature for 2.0 only to punish players who actually came to play it for story and not watch it at the inn. Honestly if merely "watching" the story line outside of the actual story experience was all that players wanted then there's no reason they couldn't just watch it on youtube or just make it a movie. Which is NOT what we want. -

Just do it Guild Wars style where everyone in the party has to vote to skip the cutscene - also like Old Republic - if one person doesn't vote, nobody gets to skip it - and that way if you're new you can watch it and nobody will know it's you holding it up.
And of course freeze the timer -

That doesn't solve the problem Jocko - because there are a limited # of instances the game can create - You could have people in theory enter instances and go afk taking up a slot preventing another party from joining indefinitely. And believe me there are trolls who have nothing better to do than lock an instance from expiring.
Well that's in the current 1.0 setup.
In 2.0 we're not supposed to have timed dungeons so simply make it a check box for each party member and each one has to push space bar or something to skip it, when all 4-8 party members hit Skip the cutscene is skipped. -

Suggestion: Only the party leader can opt to skip the cutscene OR a waiting-room is created, like in certain quests with cutscenes.
Whenever that is, or whenever the cutscene ends, is the point in which the timer begins counting down. -

I agree that XI's choice to put the cutscene outside the instance was probably the best choice. Even if there is no danger of a time limit, at least you won't have to make the party wait. -

Not to mention that even the ones inside of a lot of fights usually stall timers a bit till the monster is engaged, it seems like most XIV encounters are more of a race against a timer than a battle against x.
They let you skip events you already completed which I think would have been a bit better. Everyone watches the CS/story the first time then able to skip every time after. I guess this part of the reason they're getting rid of speed runs in ARR. -

If they made the cutscene occur before entry to the arena, we would be able to watch it at our leisure and enter when everyone was ready. Though i am certain people would complain that at the end of the citscene they were still where they were beforehand and that they should come out of the cutscene where the cutscene put them. maybe this could be solved by making all arenas like skirmish, where there is a secondary portion between entering and starting.

I'm sure its already been said but just remove the timers all together for crying out loud... Unless there is a bomb ticking or floodgates opening or some other story driven reason for having a timer on an instance, just get rid of them. I just dont get why they timed the instances in the first place. I think i heard there was a developer reason for it (Paraphrasing) "we have a server made to run the instances and we had to put timers and cooldowns for re-entry so everyone gets a fair turn. with the lack of content, when we release a new instance everyone wants to do it and can cause big technical problems for us."
With the new ARR they are supposedly releasing it with current instance + many more so this will hopefully help with the congestion and they will remove the timers altogether. I'm not opposed to the thought of the occasional timed instance for story reasons but i hope they can avoid having them timed for developer purposes. -

They shouldn't remove all timers, especially on specific encounters where timers can be used as a DPS check. However what is poorly designed is that the timer is for the whole fight and not a simple enrage timer, where the clock starts ticking only when the boss got engaged.
That would make more sense and solve the cutscene issue all together. Same for dungeon or everything, timer should only starts once someone started to move forward (just allow couple of steps before the timer kicks in). -

We plan on making adjustments so that you will be able to enjoy cutscenes and still complete battles on time. In addition, there are several other solutions that are being looked into but we don't have the specifics to share just yet.

FYI, we still get friends and party members that crash when skipping cutscenes (entering an instance, etc.).
