Less information = more cooperation

After reading a few posts here and there, the subject regarding the lack of in game info has come up a few times. By info, I do not mean info regarding patches, ps3 release dates etc. I am refering to info such as crafting, the (kind of) AH locations and mechanics etc

I do see people point of view when they say this can be frustrating at times. However, the lack of info given could (and this is only my thought on this) be a way of encouraging interaction between players.

I'll give an example;

player 1: hi there, do you know where i can find <random oil>? I need it to craft <much needed item>

Player 2: yes, you get it from alchamy, I happen to have a few myself. Would you like some? I'll sell cheap if you are short on money

Player 1: yeah, how much? i would like 5 bottles if you can spare them?

player 2: not a problem. *completes agreed transaction* Btw, do you happen to know where <generic npc> is?

Player 1: yes, I came across him while trying to look for <random oil>, he's over yonder.

Player 2: thankyou, i been looking for him for ages.

player 1: tell you what, it's not far, i can take you to him if you like?

Player 2: that would be great, thanks

and off they go, on an adventure....

ok, very simple example but im sure you get my point. The lack of info given promotes interaction between players. This in my mind is a good thing.

any thoughts for or against would be great x

You know people don't like "interaction" or "Friends", they just want sp and phat loots!

It should be easy to navigate and find stuff in a city.

The interaction you are talking about should take place in the overworld, looking for dungeons, monsters, ect..

Actually, do you know how long it took me to find Claroise in Ul'dah?! I only found the sneaky #&^$@ because I asked in shout where she was lol.

Yea many of those local leve NPC's are hard to find, I suggest using http://ffxiv.yg.com/ type the name of the NPC into the search and it will show you a map where the NPC is.

Ideally SE should add corodinates or a better explanation where the NPC is located.

i love interaction! We need more interaction in-game but please NOT about game basics.
For game basics there should be tutorials. When i play a RPG i like to talk about related topics and not explaining controls and basics.

Helping with quests and directions, now that's another story, it is more fun than getting told to look up tutorials.

Obviously interaction between players is a big part of MMOs, but that interaction shouldn't be about basic things that the game should be telling you on its own.

Not to mention that your example story, chime85, paints an overly optimistic and frankly unrealistic picture of how such interaction would go down. A far more likely scenario is this:

player 1 : where i can find <random oil>?
[long pause]
player 1 : where i can find <random oil>?
player 1 : ive been looking for some forever and i cant find any
[long pause]
player 1 : this is really frustrating -.-;;
[long pause]
player 1 : where i can find <random oil>?
player 2 : check yg
player 1 : whats yg?
[long pause]
player 1 : /cry ; ;

that was a nice duialogue , but reality is more like this

Player 1 needs some random oil. he looks for NPC about 30 seconds. than starts shouting

"I need that stupid <misspelled random oil name> giev to I nao!"

he gets igonred for 20 seconds. Quites the game, goes to forum and starts wining and trolling about how the game sux, how wow is better, how carfting is broken, and how comunity blows.

Agreed. I personally answer if I know, since I'm around black brush a lot and some questions pop up XD But the game should be playable, and by playable I mean any gamer should log in for the first time and know how to work his way around.

In the game they show you wheir the NPC's are. Go to your journal pick the one you want then you go to MAP in lower left corner.
SE shows you wheir to go for everything in this game.

Wiki anyone? Thats all it will do though honestly. More Information = Less time on Wiki. Interactions will come with parties, dungeons, NMs, large scale PvE, and etc. A game that throws you into a world clueless won't go well with the public.

Lol. It's quite funny, I've had to ask for directions in FFXIV. Just shows how huge the game is.
I do agree, there's very little actual information on what is where. I even had trouble finding an NPC that another NPC said was on the lower decks (in LL.) That is how bad I am with directions.
So I usually have to use YG. It's got a FFXIV database of a variety of things. (Including NPCs). I can suggest it to anyone else that is easily lost and has difficulty finding things.

I know quite a few people were using this website when there was no item search for the wards. Also has a list of players with bazaars. (If they are a member of the website and have updated their bazaar list). Pain in the behind. But works. Usually.

Lmfao, but to be honest you're just as likely to hear that on any other MMO, I remember being told something along those lines in valkurm trying to find how to get my subjob xD but then I went and bought a strat guide.

Yes OP, I agree that that is how it should work. And in FFXI, it worked that way for a long time.

But then the fansites popped up everyone just started saying, "go look it up online".

I think it's just a trend that has been happening not only in gaming but in life in general. People are just getting more and more jaded.
