I just had an idea, now I'm not against regional servers, especially not when you have the choice to pick any of them no matter where you live, but since some seem to be worried it will segregate the community how about this. Let's leave lag out of this and assume it will be no issue at all in 2.0, there is still one problem and that's my biggest problem, that there is no one to play with during my gaming hours since I live in EU and most of the people on my server seem to be NA/JP and it's not really fair to tell me to stay on that server if I have rarely have anyone to play with.
So, how about if S-E put a % next to each server that shows how many % of the players are from NA, how many % are from JP and how many % are from EU? That way I will know, ok they are evenly split on this server compared to this one where JP is dominating. And if I want to be on a server with people from all over the world I will pick the server where it's even and those who want to play on a server where their region is dominating they can pick that one. Naming a server "international" as some have suggested is also an idea but since all the servers are international I think it might be a bit misleading, showing exactly how many % from each region is playing on a server makes it more clear and is in my opinion a better way to do it.
What say you to that? Yay or nay?
Edit: Before this thread gets huge (if it does) this is not a thread about what you think about regional servers/data centers, there are other threads for that. I just had an idea and mostly wanted the devs/community reps to see it and maybe consider it and for the people on this forum to say what they think about it.

The one that want to play in his region, there's a choice for that, the one that want to play on a server with the biggest mix, show him/her which servers they are and then there's a choice for that as well.

I would settle for them just using duplicate server names for regional servers.
i.e.
Ridill [jp] Ridill[us] Ridill[eu]
Masamune [jp] Masamune [us] Masamune [eu]
Durandal [jp] Durandal [us] Durandal [eu]
etc...
If people are going to be moving for better latency I'd rather keep my server name and lose as little friends as possible. -

well, it would make for example european people choose a server with little % of the others, that way you know the server has less lag since its fewer people from other places. In other words, it will separate the community much more :P

The ones that want to pick a server depending on latency will pick their regional server no matter what, they would probably care more about the ping for each server. :PQuote:

Tagging a few server as "international" isnt such a bad idea!
maybe add some further infos, that those servers are exspecially for those who want to meet diffrent players from diffrent regions. and keep the data center "hidden"
To your idea with the percentage:
How do you want to calculate it?
- All player currently ingame?
- All players that are registered to that server?
With both of these ideas problems will occur -

I agree, this percentage idea will just further segrigate the community, a lot of people who play at primetimes in EU for example, see servers with 10% EU, 30% EU, 50% EU, 70% EU etc it would be more logical to go with the higher amount if you want to meet new people, this is how servers will be dead outside primetime.
I remember my DCUO times (before mega servers) I joined a high population NA server (I'm in UK) and it was dead when I was playing, seriously I saw about 10 people in a week of playing, this will happen here, and even more so showing how many people are playing from each region. -
