The idea of introducing real life "cultural diversity" into fantasy world sickens me!
We all share Eorzea world, laws, culture, awesome cloth design and weapons not available (yet) in the real world.
The idea of regional servers is purely technical.
I would not dispute neither would I agree with arguments against it from a cultural or business point of view.
I take my hat off for "CCP" - "EVE-online" MMO creator. They have a server cluster in a single location. The structure is very expensive, unique and took 10 years to perfect.
I heard of no one following their steps on that scale: 60K+ users logged to the same server at the same time.
Anyway, just want to say: "I'd like to logon to the server near me rather then the one in JP and enjoy the game having less than 200ms latency"

I would be perfectly OK with split up servers if I could take my character across to any server I wish to log into. That should pretty much solve everyone's beef, right? Go where you want, when you want, with the character you want.

Wanting more people to play with is fine, everyone should, but the fact that few are playing this game, is because its kinda a crap game, and had a failed launch, you need to learn to think ahead. If the game takes off, you will have more people on all servers, reguardless of the type of server, if your on an EU server, you will have 1 prime time, that is it, if your life changes and you get a new job, have a kid and you can only log on at night or 3hrs later than normal, your screwed. You would miss your server prime time and no good groups will be awake.

I would just like to say that I'd love to be able to log into the game at any time of day and see people fighting/crafting/gathering and generally playing the game 24/7.

I think if I was absolutely torn over the regional servers, I'd just create an alt to play on a separate server... Different races of course, not a carbon copy of my same character, and switch characters depending on when I'm playing/which region is most likely to have my friends from that region current playing, etc.

1) Closest to you if you care about the lag and the game play;

Friends on world servers is a big deal for a large portion of the population wanting world server, but theres also the endgame side, its events 24/7, you can always have something going on and avoiding 2-3hr prime time.
People keep forgetting to mention this and the stable responce is "make new friends", because you know, the last 2yrs of your life getting your current friends isnt important to them.
