What happend to optimized Keyboard and Mouse UI?

is that still in the works or was that forgotten with the new dev team or what ever that was.

Too bad that other minor platform they are going to release it on uses one of those terrible outdated controllers...

I use the controller exclusively except for typing messages. I do not think I could stand to play it with mouse and keyboard.

I use a wired 360 controller since at launch that was the only way the UI made any sort of sense. Since I have to sit at my computer all day anyways using the mouse I find the controller is also a nice way to help with the Repetition Stress Injury and soreness my wrist gets from moving the mouse around all the time.

I would still like to see the Keyboard / Mouse controls fixed.

Now if only I could get the 360 Chatpad to work in windows 7.

Done right, yes, a mouse and keyboard would be far better than a controller, as is the case with any MMO or FPS. I'm not sure why SE doesn't just create two optimized setups, instead of this awkward in between we have.

it seems to me that the entire game is made to accommodate the limitations of the gamepad. i really do believe that the lag between queuing up an ability and actually using it is there for just such things. yes this game will be on the PS3. but the fact that they made the game on PC first should warrant more attention to keyboard and mouse configurations. not trying to be hostile or anything thats just what i believe. since they had already announced this KB/M friendly UI i'm just wondering where it is exactly. as far is development and implementation. just an update to let us know they are still working on it or something. also it'd be nice if there more posts in this thread in support of KB/M friendly UI so they know we want it. :D

I actually think this is a very valid question, I've been using a controller as well since it's just simply more efficient than the terrible keyboard setup they have. If they were to make a good KB/M UI I would definitely make the switch.

I'd also like to see further improvements to the usability of mouse and keyboard. My arthritis prevents me from using a game controller (my hands are about 50 years older than the rest of me), which is why I don't play on a console. Having UI options that are optimized for my PC setup would be nice.

Yup the only way I can see it working is if they have a completely seperate UI for mouse/keyboard set up, can't see that happening though.

This one ;P It's so much more intuitive.
And remember, FFXIV is done like a console game, not like western point and click MMOs. So yeah, it does make more sense to use a controller and type with the keyboard.

If you haven't tried controller, TRY IT. It is so much easier and more intuitive to play with. I played mouse and keyboard for the first 4 months, after that I started using a PS2 controller I picked up and wow it is so much better. I will admit I still grab the mouse for a quick click now and then if I want to target something, but not often.

Once, I tried FFXI without a controller and I couldn't even figure out how to move my character. It was unplayable for me.
FFXIV's a bit easier.. I could at least move and attack better than most MMOs. Still able to do things faster with a controller though. Always been a console gamer.

Also, an old injury in my hand makes it too hard to play with mouse and keyboard for more than about 2 hours without severe pain. :\

I'm not really against controllers... I'm just against optimizing controls for controllers, especially when most of the MMO market is ON THE PC.

Also, I wonder how hard it would be to code in to have PS3 and PC versions have different UI/control setups... is it even possible? Just a thought.

I've wondered that myself. I'd really like to see an option to choose, and let players pick whichever they want, regardless of what system they're on (the PS3 can rock a mouse and keyboard too, after all!).
