When you think of Final Fantasy

When you think of Final Fantasy, what do you see or think of?

Now it is just not this game, I mean every title starting from the very first one if you started. This could be about one title that got you hooked on this game.

What really started my adventure in this title was the very first one, however the third one I think was one of them I really enjoyed the most. When i think of Final Fantasy as a whole, I think of a great story that involves many people and each of these people also have stories to add in on the story. The stories also branch out and combine with the people, so it is more like several stories all wrapped up into one. With all these people i also think that it involves the fate of the world coming to an end or changing in an evil way. You go through good times and bad times and learn who these people are and you feel like you join them on the quest.

Out of all the games I think Final Fantasy VI and VII captured the heart of this ideal. What do you guys think of?

VII was the first Final Fantasy for me.

I think of planetary crisis, air ship, summons, swords, large cities, and empires.

Overpowered spell animation for minor damages , Awesome bad guys ( with cool long hair ) , epicness , world destruction , tears , awesome music , shitty gameplay ( imo )

I think awesome story... VII IX X and XII

Final Fantasy IV more or less sums it up for me. I started with the very first on NES, but IV (II in the U.S. at the time) will always be 'my' Final Fantasy X) I will never say it's better than any of the others, and I'm endearingly aware of all of its flaws, but I still love the original SNES soundtrack over any remake I've heard since. X)

My favorite airship will always be the Enterprise. No, not because of Trek; Cid's Enterprise in Final Fantasy IV was my first Enterprise, it's what got me into Trek. :3

I think of a story that starts out as a personal one and grows to include the fate of the world. A wide open world and a sense of adventure and danger.

I think of NPC's that say clever things, dancers that twirl around the tavern and homes where I plunder potions from pots. Saving my gil because I suspect I'm about to get to a new town where I can buy my next oversized sword.

I think of princesses and love stories and the bad guy that gets in the way. Getting stuck and talking to every npc in a town to find my way. Exploring caves, castles and ruins to get this or that item that some NPC needs.

I think of wandering too far out and being squished by ogres. Secret passages and time travel. Head-scratching plots and epic boss battles.

Also, fantastic music, chocobos, tents, canoes, ships, airships, crystals, summons, magic, Cid and all the usual suspects.

Let's also not forget that final boss fight where said boss goes into Tetsuo-mode and mutates into a human-faced, sixteen-winged, four-breasted, giant purple alien in a swirling, star-filled background doing 9999 AoE damage

Wonder how out of all it's numbered games and spin-offs I think of two things.

Why was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest never deemed a number, when I feel it was better than FF1 & 2?

Secondly, out of all it's games, how do they only have 1 cool mage, Vivi?

Crystals, zippers and belts.

zippers and belt is more KH than FF .
Ansem seeker of darkness clothes are 90 % belt !

Well Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was release in the USA first which is probably why it did not get a number. The numbered Final Fantasy games all started in japan. To answer the second question, well you would have to ask a dev on that one, lol.

Airships, globetrotting, world in danger, familiar summons, multiple tiers of elemental spells, cool villains, Cid and of course the iconic jobs. The recent FF games have really gone away from most of them. Summons that you just go WTF are these? Where's my Shiva and Ramuh and Bahamut? No airship exploring. No Wedge/Biggs. Villains aren't nearly as memorable.

A lot of them didn't have jobs but you could link them to a class. Like 7 Tifa was clearly a monk, Yuffie a ninja/thief, you could call Cid a DRG, Cat sith was the most obv he was an puppet master, and in 8 quistis was an bluemage, Zell was an monk, Irvine was an Ranger.

To be back on topic tho when i think of FF i think of a few things, Story, fun battles, airships, chocobo's, crystals, beautiful worlds, and Flashy magic/ Weapon skills.

A well thought out aesthetic style and a good storyline built upon ones that have come before but still truly unique and engaging.

When i think of dragoon i think of Kain , the dragon armor and all , when i see cid i don't say : "oh it's a dragon ! "

same for tifa and zell they are more boxers than monks ...

it's not only the weapon that do the job , it's the skills and appearance .

How would you do with swords ?

I think of the modern settings of 7 and 8 as I was late to the crowd with the nes and snes generations. But I must say as well as the modern settings I much preferred the real world settings of other games at the time like Parasite Eve and SMT/Persona.

Deep story, that invokes real emotions. Being made to genuinely care about the characters. Magic and myths, high unique fantasy. And adventure!

So much different things to count it all. But Guardian Forces/summons, Gunblades, storylines, character design, music, vehicles and ofc the animations ^^

I think of the music for the most part. Though, visually, I see Job Classes, battle mechanics, and an evolving storyline that comes down to a grand finale. A game that makes you want to beat it over and over again. Those were some good days, and I still find myself playing through tactics, FFIII, FFIV, playing the newer versions that are on the DS. :)

My first real Final Fantasy experience came with ff6 (FF3 on the snes.) When I think of Final Fantasy I think of grandiose, psychotic and maybe a little effeminate villains, (Kefka, Sephiroth, Kuja) cataclysmic events, (kefka destroying the world, sephiroth summoning meteor, Terra/Gaia fun times.) A unique cast of characters each with their own reasons for helping each other. And hours upon hours of walking through world maps and dungeons to the same music!

Mostly this.

I think of Red Mages.

Storyline. It's the most important aspect of the series imo.

I think of a series that likes to change it up, rather than relying on the older games in the series, unless they go the FFIX route and make their own world with a few nods to older titles.

I think storyline first and foremost. FF X was my first FF and I experienced much of the series backwards from there going to VIII to IX to VII then VI & I. I fell in love with the characters and their plights. I saw the FF series as a high tech and interactive novel. Without a strong story and cast it's easy to lose my interest like with FF XI, XIII and XIV.

XII was the only exception that disappointed me story and character wise but I still loved the game for the awesome adventure provided by the Mark Hunt system. Many fond memories fighting Marks there. Really excited to see if XIV's new NM system said to be able to level a whole class off nothing but Hunting NM's is anything like XII's Marks.

Mention Final Fantasy and I immediately scream, Tifa!! But Loche and Tera and Sabin and the rest were my first exposure to FF. After 7 I tried 8 and I couldn't get in to it. I bought a few more after that too but the Esper and Materia systems in NA III and VII were the ones I liked and I couldn't enjoy the later ones.

FF14 is an MMO or I would never have touched it for the same reason. Even now I don't consider what we have to be materia. The music makes it FF but I feel to feeble for it to have the hero of Final Fantasy feel.
