Anyone know, are groups allowed to claim it?
Such as:
1) Join caravan
2) Find people are doing it
3) Ask for pt invite
4) "We are full, and you took someone's spot"
5) Finish caravan
6) No profit

This is pretty standard, I think it's courtesy to let the full group have a spot but if you weren't aware they had a full group they are just being assholes by not inviting you
I was in their "group" when they were shouting in Uldah, I DC for 2 min but miss 2nd run, they rep me.
I then apparently "take" my rep's spot and therefore dont deserve a pt
I would love for Caravan to become like the dynamic events in Guild Wars 2 where anyone can jump in any time they see it up and feel like it. It would save a lot of grief with grouping and number limitations, the two biggest peeves I have with the current system.
Honestly, when I run caravan, I let everyone know that if they don't get a spot for the run they should sit out for that run and disband from the party. When the next run comes along and they get a spot in I'll be sure to invite them back. There is no reason not to have all 8 players who are doing caravan not be in the same party. If you really wanted to get back at them though, just talk to the NPC or one of the chocobos in the caravan and keep it in dialogue. The caravan wont move forward until you let it go... so they'll have to invite you in if they want to complete the run.
The reason is: "we are in a pt and we are all doing caravan, dont take our spots"
Oh and i did that, got reported apparently :-)
I did let them finish tho, im not THAT evil
I'm confused by take their spot.
There is no holding of spots it is open to everyone. A GM made that clear a couple times, however for level 45+ ones it is group based, a single person shouldn't be out there starting them or holdign the npc.
No one group has more right over another to start caravans. Not sure if they changed it ut have seen two runnign at a time in certain spots.
However courtasy is important, there are other spots and typially if a group is in one, another group will go to another location.
Well, it pretty much turned to having 9 people there.
The group of 8, and me. I couldnt go anywhere else because its as you said: Cant solo.
But me taking a spot because 1 of them is too slow is apparently "taking their spots"
I just hope the GM investigate the reports you might get from that instead of just insta banning.
I doubt he will get banned for this.
The server don't belong to them after all and the way Caravan was designed let me think they didn't intend to have only 1 party camp it all the time. ( sinve depending on how long it takes you to complete it, the next run can be open before the last one is over, letting new people join it.)
What I did n the past was annoying them to let me in party. If they didn't, next time join I warn them that if they don't invite me, no one get seals :)
I wish the game would just auto-join you to a caravan party, since it limits you to 8 people anyway. You can't be a member of a party when signing up, and it adds you to a party once you're in. When caravan ends, that party disbands so everyone can join the next one, which might already be forming if you made plenty of stops.
And if we're talking about wishes here, I'd love some sort of tab where I can see the status of every caravan: how many people are signed up, when the next one begins, etc. so my light party doesn't have to teleport around to find one that will hopefully accommodate all of us.
For an event that only allows, at most, 24 people* to participate at any given time, it would be nice to have a way to organize people prior to blindly wandering into a camp and hoping for the best.
* 24 counting only the 45+ caravans; 48 if you add the lower level ones.
I love this idea. The worst caravan experiences I have had were when I joined an escort only to have another group of people join and refuse to invite me because they already have a full party. The problem is that they formed up in Uldah and 3 out of the 8 players hadn't even arrived at Drybone yet. The run starts with less that 8 players and the full group still won't drop a player and invite you. Once I even offered to drop after one run so that their player who hadn't arrived yet could jump in the next run. Auto-party for something like this would be really awesome.
I think sometimes people think that if they join up in Uldah, they automatically get the right of way as soon as they port in over anyone who might have been out there doing escort runs for an hour.
I got stuck doing this once and felt pretty bad about it. We had a full group but two of us didn't make it in and immediately went AFK (including our leader). Had to tell the other two {Our party's full}. Fortunately they came back before the end so we managed to get them in before time ran out, but these things can happen.
Oh I got into these party claim war situations too 4v4 or 5v 3
So, base on what I see... feel like whoever get the most that pt get credit..
Drybone is such a special place that individuals go there and sign up like a pick up group place.
So, at least in my server, people don't form a group then go to drybone...
caravan should be like GW2 dynamic events theres also a caravan in that game where you just enter the area then boom you in the world party.
FFXIV really needs things to do where you can just play the game and not have to shout for hours to do a 20 min thing.
Yeah it's been a bit of an ongoing problem lately, like where groups will ninja the caravans before your group get's back to restart the next one.
Frankly it's just a pain in the ass to figure out a way that would prevent cheating without screwing your fellow man over or vice-versa.
Maybe they should just drop the cap on participants and the party mechanic and instead just increase the difficulty with each new member by adding more mobs at higher levels. It would make success impossible (or extremely difficult) if for example four people just ran to the end and don't intend on participating and just left the other four to try and do the run.
thats the problem with it way to restrictive and another thing that requires luck in the game to even do. there no excuses now about mass scale world events, GW2 done it and done it well. SE want to use systems that came out in the stoneage of MMO's like instances nothing is new or different just a rush to the boss and repeat.
Rift actually did the world events first and it seems to be carryign over to other MMo's.
You get close to the area, and can select to join it and be grouped for it.
OR have a sign in till 8 people are reached.
To be honest, all these changes to how it counts if you are in, and the need to get into a party, and the high possibility of grief play, I've actually even avoided trying it. Maybe a 'simpler' implementation would be:
-- For each person who joins the caravan, the difficulty is increased (more mobs, higher levels).
-- Each time a person leaves the caravan (talks to NPC to quit), the difficulty is decreased.
-- A counter keeps track of how much a person is involved in the escort (healing, fighting, etc.)
-- At the end, a reward is given only if the person participated sufficiently (say 1 positive action every 5 minutes).
This would mean those who do not actively participate get nothing. Difficulty would only marginally increase due to 'idlers' being present (and the reward would increase as well). The fun bit is, if people join and run to the end, they get nothing but everyone else gets a bit more.
Could also go so far as: You have joined 5 times in a row, but did not participate. You are banned for 48 hours. (Or if they want to be really mean, lock them out of their grand company for a week for bad behaviour).
thats thinking on a small scale. it still leaves people out, its a caravan there should be no party its should be server wide as long as your in proximity of it and killing still or helping the chocobo's get back to the caravan.
if you ever played FFXI think of a world party like campaign no one is left out as long as you sign up. dont say it gonna be laggy this aint 2004 anymore other games can do mass scale stuff why cant the biggest RPG company on there second mmo do it?
can... change it to group of mob pop in far place and run to attack caravarn same time then random pop near chocobo?... make something for DD to do it.. plz not blm only so ppl must make plan and split up to do his job not wait near chocobo and burn his mana with some leecher DD.. who can hit only2 hit and mob dead...
so all ppl must co-op for win if someone don't invite and leave some other mob group may free and chocobo will get hit lol and reward not luck like mob pop on.. chocobo instnat hit .. but come from ppl team up clear mob that will come from wide area.. that ppl must go to defeat it before it reach chocobo... not random on chocobo..
Caravan rules are dumb! It should be open to everyone(whether or not in party). Join in or wait for next one with less people. Problem with this system is, its over-run by mages. If your not in their party, you don't get exp on kills.
You just repeated everythign I said LOL.
RIft uses world server wide campaigns. Event going on you appraoch and can just join in, noone got left out, most of the times you needed at least 40 people coming along.
OR the sign in and as peoele sign in you group and go automatically.
Yes I played XI almsot 10 years. It was very limited on world event other then WOTG stuff that lasted so long till Abysea took over.
However with caravan you can't have that vast side. No need for 20 peopel for such an easy task unless they created caravans much longer with mobs great then level 55 with higher stats.
They jsut need to allow more caravans at once. Or do a totally different event that is meant for larger groups. Such as attackign or defending outposts (withotu the need to telport or use a maw to go back in time).
Get rid of caravans altogether.
They aren't fun. Period.
But they give the best rewards!

That they do, and the best rewards should be given for fun, challenging, real content. People praise Yoshi all the time, but often forget he was the one who designed systems like this, boring faceroll grindfests with no matchmaking utilities whatsoever to only cause grief. He's had his shortcomings, and people need to give some constructive criticism instead of praising him all the time.
Grindy content is fine. But I want to have fun doing the grind.
Yes, I realize the sarcasm in your post XD
How to fix this:
Behests/Caravans/etc -- To benefit you must sign up, once signed up at the NPC you are all placed into a group (no limit on size). Then do whatever you gotta do.
K done.
It works in GW 2..
This shows how broken the caravans are, i hope that in the next version if you go there and talk to an npc you instantly are grouped automatically and if the party is full you make an alliance, mobs should be more when an alliance is formed and so the points you should receive, and of course make the mob spawns more random. So after you finish the alliance is disolved.
