I remember why I don't get on forums

Now I remember why I don't do forums and play solo as much as possible....

Too much unhappiness, unthankfulness and meanness.

Have a good time everyone I will be playing the game to relax and unwind.

Typically, only the most jaded and miserable players join the official forums and ffxiv subs for all MMOs in my past exp and we're all limited to like 20 posts a day on all tiers.

Also, they suffer from relentless trolls that the English mods haven't yet contained for years or banned, so YMMV.

I mean, this is where the devs tell us to go complain. A lot of the complaints come from a want for the game to improve.
Just like with customer service, you'll rarely see someone here to praise the game.

As long as you're having fun with the game, I don't think you should concern yourself with what others dislike.

Well to be fair...

The developers do ASK us to come here to give feedback (Whether good or bad), and it's hard not to have the mentality...

We're told to leave feedback here, but by much of an indication they don't actually read much of the feedback whatsoever.

I hang out here because I am addicted to old internet forums, this place feels like a relic from 2005 and that is strangely comfortable, it's probably how Hidetaka Miyazaki feels about poison swamps, it's full of death, pestilence, and everything awful with life as a concept, but you still can't not have it.

Complaining about the people complaining in the forums. this is some 5d chess.

Problem isn't people talking about problems, problem is that the forum is full of trolls and the mods ignore it.

Well... we WERE asked to send all complaints here, and other FF14 related places (like Reddit) will kill you for saying anything negative, so I'm not sure where else anyone is allowed to leave criticism and feedback?

What about if you do the forums and play in groups as much as possible instead, perhaps something will change?

I rather have this type of forum rather than the gcbtw fest that is reddit or ff14 discord server, where saying anything slightly negative(and god forbid if it's story related) will get you jumped.

Yes, if you only read the forum, you would think 90% of the playerbase hates the game. But when you play the game and see the novice chat or your fc / cwls chats, you will see that most people still enjoy the game.

People don't come here to talk about what they enjoy. They come here when they have a complaint. And lemmi tell ya there are people here who have nothing but complaints. Try and ask some of these people what they actually like about the game and they have no answer.

The two most loyal subscribers of FFXIV: roleplayers, and those who hate the game.

The problem with these forums is it's full of trolls and nasty people. You can't have any opinions or discussions without someone coming in and insulting people for it, every thread about any gameplay aspect somehows devolves into "Casuals vs Hardcore" and most people here have the maturity age of a toddler.

Really shows people in game are only nice because they have to be or they'd get banned, anywhere else it's just as bad as any online game. At least in other games you get to deal with straight up just toxic people, in this community it's all subtle and acting all smug and superior, threading the needle as it were.

Though I do also suspect that some people on the forums get enjoyment out of riling others up to try and bait them into saying something that is reportable.

Back after a very long hiatus (was a big Destiny 2 player until it died and only played FFXIV sporadically the past few years) and love catching up on everything (working my way through Dawntrail at the moment). I didn't visit their forums very often, but the creator community around it was always super, super negative. Just not fun to watch or engage with. Very few creators celebrated anything, so watching them struggle with content now that the game is dead is a weird form of schadenfreude for me. Anyway, all that to say is at least the creator community around this game is very positive and fun to engage with (Meomi, Salamander, etc.). Sometimes you get what you ask for so be careful.

There's still some mean spirited and nasty individuals on here. The bigger question is if they're so miserable why spend 15 a month. It makes 0 sense.

So OP you go on forums for validation? I mean why does it bother you if someone doesn't like something that you do, or vice versa?

"Not liking some aspect of the game" is not the same as "miserable".

Purchasing a video game doesn't mean marrying it and unconditionally loving everything about it.

Your post reads like that parent that doesn't understand why their child went no contact.

People complaining doesn't bother me since I'm not personally invested at this point.

I just often lose interest in the forums since they become repetitive. Like "oh, it's this holiday/season event complaint thread" we get every single time. Snooze.

Or complaints about healers that are the same for years now and done to death, yet some people are saying the same thing over and over again for 200 pages that they already said. Same people - same points. Zzzz.

Once in a while I'm bored or an interesting topic comes up at least.

Literally cheaper than tea, coffee or hot chocolate from my workplace.

You're also laboring under the assumption that people complaining about the game don't like anything about it, which is simply untrue.

I'm as negative as they come, but I still have a decent time just fishing or loitering around in Eureka.

Yeah that's a good example of toxic behavior on the forums.

It's unfortunate that the community teams have to wade through all of the poison to find some genuinely beneficial feedback to the game.

It's been the modus operandi of every white knight lurking on those forums: constant ad hominems on negative criticisms trying to pass their posters for haters and people that spend money on a game they don't enjoy.
It's superficial reading at best and often malicious in nature.

Fact of the matter is all of those are essentially butthurt that people dare criticize something they enjoy. Perhaps they're also afraid that the devs would "listen to criticism" and change the game in a way that threaten their enjoyment directly, which is the most logical explanation I can come up with.
Else why are they even here? Most of them don't actually post anything positive about the game either, they're just there to constantly shoot down negative criticism, which is pretty telling.

If you see a forum post that violates the rules, don't be afraid to click the "Report Post" icon to submit the details directly to the moderation team.

Forums are there to complain, provide constructive feedback or tell something to see opinions. Not something that you do where you complain about a complain.

If you enjoy the game, nobody cares, that's fine. But we are here to express our feelings and try to make the game better because it's not in a great state and devs seem to never listen.
