First of the two Benchmarks for ARR.

Since the Alpha testing will be starting soon, I did read on the Roadmap that the first of the two benchmarks will be available as soon as the Alpha starts for ARR. Is that still planned or not? I'm wanting to see how the game will run on my setup with any improvements. The current game does run good, it just lags when I'm in a crowded area (and it's not Ul'dah; it was Cedarwood with all of the RMTs taking over the area) and then eventually crashes.

Here's my setup:

i7-2630 Sandy Bridge
8GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 555M GT with 3GB of RAM on it.

Odds are if you can run it now, you can run 2.0

If you can run it now you'll be able to run it better in ARR.

Low end if you can only just run it expect to run it more stable, if you can run it high right now, expect to run the same with more characters on screen.

Not super familiar with that GFX card but I think anyone who would even know they have that chip and amount of RAM know there really isn't much that it couldn't run. Think its safe to assume your good for like...2 years.

hes running it on a laptop which is why hes worried. buy a tower and you wouldnt be gimping your way through at 20fps

Turn Anti Aliasing off and anyone with a Pentium 4 can run this. I keep shadowing off as well but it doesn't seem to impair performance, it just looks really bad on my setup.

Pentium D 2.8 Dual-Core 32bit Vista, 2GB Ram 1GB Vid card. Works just fine.

Eww...that has to get hot as a mofo. But his nuts get really sweaty during Garuda runs.

Arr is said to be better optimized and not such a strain on systems.

Especially GPU side, so we will see when they release the benchmarks. Yet it will stil ltake time to optimize the game fully.

I haven't done Garuda yet because I've had issues with leveling up (I'm doing Leves and trying to get as much gil as I can, plus farming for crafting and the like) because of the RMTs at Cedarwood (it was much easier to lvl up there because I'm close to LL, but someone mentioned on the forums to do Humblehearth instead because of the lack of people and it's close to Gridania). My highest level is 35. I'm not in any rush, though :) I have a cooling fan under my laptop.

I get up to 60 FPS, though, it just lags like hell when around Cedarwood with all of those RMTs running around and just standing there. Ul'dah never gave me any problems no matter how many people were on the screen.

The next laptop I'm getting is going to be an Alienware, but that will be a good while as this laptop is enough for what I need it for (it has Blu-Ray, too). I will also think about getting a desktop later on as well, and that's in the distant future.

Alienware is a dell with a fancy logo and lighting. have fun wasting money

I heavily suggest you avoid Alienware. Ever since they were bought out by Dell, the quality of their PCs has fallen.
I suggest getting a Lenovo Y580. It's cheaper, and probably has better specs.

I just hope the new build takes advantage of more cpu cores & threads. Being locked to 2 threads is not acceptable for a PC engine made today.

if you want a serious gaming laptop check out Origin PC. they arent as mainstream but just as expensive. and their products are quality.

Theyre locked to 2 cores cuz its a 32bit game. *(confirmed by it being in the program files x86 folder) maybe 2.0 will be 64bit and be able to access more than 2 cores and 4 gigs of ram

32bit applications can use more than 2 threads/cores..
For example:
Skryim is a 32bit game, but can take advantage of quad and hexa core cpus.
32bit applications in theory can use up to 32 threads/cores.

Well, I'm getting one because I couldn't get a good graphics card on a portable computer :( The XPS I have now could only get the 555M GT at the time, and Alienware had 560M GTX or better. And yet, don't we spend money on better graphics cards, hm? :P I'll probably just stick with a desktop and game on one for later on.

Oh yeah, I've seen those computers before. They were recommended on NVIDIA's website with certain graphics cards. I completely forgot about those computers.

FYI if your pondering a new laptop, instead of a tower, i've heard good things about samsung...especially with their repair/replacement service. Worth a look.
