Darksteel Ingots and Nuggets, oh how I hate you!

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had some insight onto these? Ive tried every single type of build it seems but im not pulling many success' or great success' on carefuls. I have no clue what to stack anymore!

I've tried the 118 craft/118 m.craft and the rest in control to no avail. Everything in M.craft with a bit in control, everything in Craft with a bit in control. A lot of other builds that would take too long to list.

Ive changed gear so much It's crazy.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please?

What abilities are you using?

I've tried a lot of different combinations but right now its:

Greater Calling, Masters Mend, Byregot's Blessing, Magnum Opus, Heart and Soul.

It's a high-levle synth... what did you expect?

Sure, I understand that. There has to be a way to decrease the failure rate on carefuls.

Also, Darksteel Nuggets are level 50. I should be getting more great success' no?

Hmm true, I was thinking it was 54/55 like many of those other related synths.

Shunning one stat completely in favor of another is rarely a good idea. That said, which stats you use is often a matter of preference, as the effects of stats are widely disputed, so I'll just leave the subject of stats alone. The last time I entered that sort of discussion, it was like walking into a religious or political debate.

Gear aside, my best suggestion would be to equip Perfection and other such success/great success abilities instead of 1-turn quality boosters. +quality on a fail is going to help you far less than a +success while under Byregot's. Perfection while under Byregot's will easily net you 100+ quality in a single turn.

Depending on your craft try melding the stats like vit str dex to your tools and gear in addition to craftmanship. Once I did this myself I noticed a marked increase in the amount of quality i got per success and when i got great success i was getting like 40-60 on non ability carefuls and when i had byregot's and perfection/culmination stacked i would get 100-133 and sometimes would hq at 58% sometimes.

It may help ya and it may not but there has to be a reason that vit dex str mnd materia shows it can be melded to crafting tools. Hope this helps or gives you some direction.

Thanks Leomike, i'll try that again tonight. Pretty sure im capped STR on BSM though ( double melded tool and gloves ). Ill try fiddling around with the rest of my stats a bit more.

Not necessarily true, the way it works when you stack quality abilities (Byregot's and Purification for example) doesn't add the % together, but compounds them. So if you get say 20 quality from an early careful fail, Byregot's turns that into 40, Purification turns that into 80. With Great Success and Byregot's you're getting roughly a base quality of 40-50 (50 being the general max unless you have over x amount of stat to boost it further), doubled from Byregot's you're getting 80-100 and with no chance at anything higher.

Note that Perfection + Byregot's has a static set of 80-100 (120 is the most i've personally seen with +70~ STR on BSM, grain of salt an' all that). Which isn't all that much more than a standard failure early on with Byregot's and Purification, yet when Byregot's and Purification succeed on say a 35 quality base, that becomes a total of 140 quality, drastically outstripping the safer method. That says nothing of course if you go for more risk with Magnum Opus, being that there's only a ~25% chance of getting a prismatic orb in the first place.

If you're going for HQ, you're naturally incurring a good chunk of risk. Everybody who goes for HQ has to accept this as fact whether they believe it, or like it, if there wasn't a healthy bit of risk then HQ's would be worthless and too easy to do. I detest the massive amount of RNG in crafting but it's the system we all have to live with if we want to craft for the time being.

i can make nugget 80-90% but the ingot oh god i stop trying lol.

Interesting! I did not know that. You would be correct in assuming that I thought the percentages were simply added together. I will have to try that out.

I reeeaaally don't think you're right about a static quality gain for Perfection + Byregot's, though.

every step you do, the amount of available quality goes down.
so if a success on the first step is worth 40, the next step with same color and success will be 37-39.
Hitting those great successes in the beginning is the best way to get those nuggets to 1000 quality and ingots to 800

if it goes rainbow, pop
Byregot's Blessing (+100% Quality 3 steps) + Magnum Opus (+150% Quality 1 step, needs Prismatic Glow)
If its not rainbow pop Byregot's Blessing (+100% Quality 3 steps) + Perfection (Greast success on Careful synths)
You sould get rainbow within the first 3 steps
After 3 carefuls pop Comfort Zone and do 1 careful and 2 standard, you should be at 600 quality 56 progress and 106 quality
At here do 7 more carefuls to get closer to 800+ quality

this should give you 200-300+ quality in the first 3 steps leaving 9 more carefuls for another 180.
On nuggets, that's 880-1000 and ingots, 713-800+
Let me know how it works out and see if you can verify the numbers.
Gear. What eve lol, stick with 120-120 +control. unless your setting brand of fire instead of Opus. In this case drop control to 70-100

Its stated in the official crafting post how to do so.
1) Meet the minimum craftsmanship requirements to remove the penalty.
2) Add more craftsmanship for more action success.

As Green stated, aim for 120/120 in both craftsmanship.

I'll try it all out. I went 0/7 on STR gloves and 0/13 on my BLM pants so got kinda broke :/
