ARR "technically possible" for Vita?

Personally, I don't much care for the tone of this "article." They had the chance to interview Mr. Yoshida and this is all they wrote about it.

Still, as far as those wondering what specs they'll need to play 2.0, this is an interesting anecdote:

The part of this "article" that annoys me is it seems like they're attacking Yoshida for having stated the obvious about the Vita rather than highlighting the fact that this new engine is that scalable.

it's nto jsut the network stability, I have very stable 3g and 4g. However.

The screens size is an issue. Being able to see text, characters at those distances, target, interact, text talk, is all goign to be to difficult and cause issues. IF it was on a tablet, then pssobile ,sicne you coudl see text better, hook up a keyboard and mouse, and manage.

I don't see any aggression in this article. All It's saying is basically that ffxiv will most likely have nothing to do with ps vita.

I agree, it'd be a pretty crappy system to focus on for ffxiv.

Let's face it large scale MMO's are not for handhelds.

Concerning indeed. The game that was never announced or intended for Vita...isn't going to come out on Vita. Oh dear.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is going out for the Vita and didn't FFXI say they were thinking about doing it too?

An FF XIV app for vita would be nice. But the whole game? Don't know if that work.

PSO2 isn't an MMO. It's similar to Monster Hunter. Even then, Phantasy Star games have made their way to the Vita. A full fledged MMO with the UI that it has will sure as hell not see a full fledged game on that small console. Maybe a crafting/inventory app or something, but not the entire game.

Yes it would suxx with a so little screen .Can't talk , can't write etc ...

I'm not expecting the game itself to be on the Vita but I would love a Vita app for the game.

i think most people would just craft and do other things that don't need to talk or read i'm sure they can find a way to make so you could see the chat tho.

This means nothing at all.

ARR is also technically possible for Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, Wii U. Doesn't mean they will do it.

I don't know much about pso2, but that other f2p game looks like all the other free sprite games out there.

with risk of sounding condescending, I wouldn't really classify that as a "large scale" mmo, As Andrien put it.

I didn't post this thinking they "should or shouldn't." I just found it interesting that this engine could go that far.

But then, I don't know much beyond engines other than the basics of what they do so maybe it's not as big a deal as I assumed.

The Vita (for a handheld) is very powerful, so I would imagine it wouldn't be that hard to work, as people have said the problem is all the MMOy stuff (is that a real word) which are needed to be able to play the game which wouldn't make it viable.

Personally I hope not -- Vita is killing a lot of potential PS3 and PC releases from certain companies because sony wants to try to move more Vita units.

You're right, Sephrick. That's a pretty lame "interview".

I also don't care for their precise word-for-word transcription style, which includes every pause, unrelated sentence fragment, and "you know". While I don't think it's a good idea for a publication to "summarize" what an interviewee said (since that involves a lot of interpretation), in an interview about videogames it's not necessary to transcribe every single syllable of the spoken language. It makes the translator (and by extension Yoshida) sound like he doesn't care about what he's talking about. I highly doubt that was actually the case.

While it's really cool to hear that the new engine is that scalable, I just don't know how much fun it would be or if the experience its self would be comfortable. Games like this are really designed to be played in pretty big hunks of time. I could not picture my self sitting down with a hand held for two to three hours or more to play this or any other game.

The problems are many, eye strain from the screen size, battery life, and connectivity. Hell that's not even getting into holding the damned thing for prolonged periods of time.

I'd guess we'd see FFXI on the Vita before FFXIV.

With the lower res and smaller memory footprint, it seems like a much easier port at this point.

Larger scale games will never be able available on Vita, or any other handheld, FFXIV included.

I, for one, would never be caught dead playing an MMO on something that small and uncomfortable.

btw: PSO2 is no way close to small scale.

Yeah, it really is. Excluding the lobby it's just instanced maps with a maximum of four people, I think sixteen max for multiparty. Not to mention the entire game is built less around strategy and more around reaction. There's no wide-encompassing overworld, no large scale PvP (though that may change in the future, we'll see) and no real need for communication to be honest.

Not to say it's a bad game, I actually enjoy it quite a bit. It's just that trying to imply FFXIV would be a good fit on Vita because PSO2 is doesn't work.

yeah, i agree totally. the point i'm really trying to make here is that it is not impossible for mmo to work on that platform.

No one said it's techinically impossible, it's just "impossible" as far as comfort and utility goes. I just don't know of anyone who would want to play it considering how cluttered the screen would be.

If I had a Vita, I'd use it for things like crafting and gathering while chilling on the couch.

It could have its uses. Especially since the PS3 version is being designed to be controller-only anyway.

thats not actually hard to see Rave >.> and also it be fun for solo content not group content either way I would rather play on my gaming rig for big fights and stuff.. but for boring stuff like crafting and gathering I'd rather play it on the vita o.o/

As some people have mentioned having the whole game on the vita is unrealistic, however having an app to let you craft (not that great an idea but it lets you do some things) a app for doing stuff in your personal/company housing which could include chocobo rising would be awesome. As someone mentioned above using your vita as a controller would be nice it could also act as additional input or even a keyboard.

And make it that we can see on the vita what is behind our char like a rearview mirror^^

they should make it for WII U. the tablet controller should be nice for this. That'd make more sense than releasing it just for a handheld

drag and drop items in your inventory. chatting. and you also have the same amount of buttons as like with the ps3 controller.
