Some idea for Auction House system in a Realm Reborn

I don't know someone already put this topic up already but this is my opinion that Dev team might consider for implement AH system in a Realm Reborn.

Today, when I try to search and buy some item from market search. I found some dude putting their NQ item with maximum retainer capacity. eg.

name - sell price - quantity
xxx - 900 - 99
yyy - 900 - 99
zzz - 999 - 99
.... continue for 15 or more record.... then
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
trolldude - 10,000 - 5
... and the list for HQ is gone since it will show only 20 first result.

Me, I don't mind much since I don't want to buy HQ item anyway.. but for other ppl that try their hard to obtain that +1 item will suffer with this troll player that put this item in list for eternity..

If he is super troll, he'll use both of his retainers to sell those items for x20 records and there's no way the HQ item will go up in the list..

I hope the Dev will come up with the new design of AH that can display all items and maybe some AH system that flexible enough and prevent this kind of troll.

just copy the auction house of wow and others mmo , it works fine and is easy to use .

I enjoyed FFXI's AH system. I never really liked seeing the buy out price since it encourages undercutting.

yes, it might be less hassle for seller (O RLY) but one helluva process for buyer (Y RLY)

SE need to separate HQ and NQ, like they already done outside ward. Surely HQ and NQ item has different database ID, but for some reason SE put it as the same item in ward

Why would you discourage undercutting? Why would it be bad if all things were a little cheaper? I don't post often, and most of my posts have been about the market system, just check my history and you will find a multitude of arguments why undercutting is great (among other market improvements and reforms).

I wouldn't say not being able to see what others' have their items listed for would discourage undercutting. I find that people will undercut far more drastically solely because they can't see what other people are selling for, and instead have to guess and hope for the best.

Yeah good luck with that. No matter how successful and awesome their AH is, people here won't want it for no reason other than the fact that it's from WoW.

Well it would of course be updated to a more convenient standard. Not exactly like XI's. A search function should definitely be added. The navigation menu should also be cleaner and easier to navigate through. The main factor to it is that the buy out price just doesn't appear to the buyer, yet price history is still there.

not knowing price is a bad thing
what if you dont bring enough money? I dont want to walk all the way to Uldah only because I lack one gil

Undercutting is caused and encouraged by basic economic rules and human greed, not the method by which players trade items between themselves. Undercutting was just as rampant in FFXI, you just didn't notice it because FFXI let you pay 70,000 gil for an item that was listed at 69,995 gil.

That's not the point though. Yes, people are undercutting for 69,995 gil yet it shows up for 70,000 so the other sellers don't notice. However the one selling for 69,995 gil doesn't know if someone else is undercutting him. However the lowest price would be really hard to find. I know it's impossible to cut off undercutting, however it is definitely possible to hinder it.

It's not really the problem of who sells their item faster, but more towards the fact that the value of the item is decreased. Take boar leather +1 for example. On my server it can easily sell for 60k each when there is one or two competitors. However, when other sellers see the price they begin to join the market, but in order to take advantage of the current price, they undercut so that theirs will sell the fastest. This in the end triggers a chain reaction, causing boar leather to go down to as low as 30k each in just a single day. That's a 50% price drop. Though you can still see that the demand of the item is high because even if it is a 60k or 30k, the boar leather still sells at an accelerated pace. Now what happens if you add the bidding system? Yes the undercut race will still happen, but the profit made from the item is not as affected as it was before.

I guess a better way of stating it is that it will still let undercutting happen, but the value of the item doesn't decrease as suddenly as it currently does.

Yeah, I had this issue when I started selling Electrum Rings. Initially I was one of two people selling them for 40k a pop and they flew out almost as fast as I could make them. Then the undercutting began and the FIRST undercutter dropped the price to 20k. Now the price is typically around 10k. I don't even bother making them anymore.

having an auction house that don't show the item price is a little dumb no ?
i prefered get the item myself instead of asking to every ones that sell the items to see which one is cheaper ...

Just keep the current system, and make 2 tabs in the window that tells us the prices. One tap for NQ and one tab for HQ

GW2 auction house is the best i seen.

In FFXI the undercutting rate is too dang high.
If you want your item sell fastest, just set it to 1 gil.
People tend to bid the price from the last in history, so you'll get you item sold out :P

But if there's some smart guy that try to put 1 gil for buying side... he'll get it too lol
So, yeah the FFXI AH system idea is not the best now but at that time, it's very revolutionize in mmo since there are not much MMO at that time.. and Ragnarok Online market place is like FFXIV when first released... you have to click "every" shop to find your item.. but it's better than FFXIV at start since ppl still able to set short description for their market.

Still do and mine gets sold first for sure. Everything on my FFXIAH page I sold for 1 gil and people over pay lots.

The WoW auction house is not my favorite type of AH it works pretty much like how ebay works and there is no sales history other then that it was ok.

FFXI Ah was the best...imo

Here's my contribution to the auction house debate: One button sales.

The current ward search feature already includes a sales history for each item (and presumably whatever we get for 2.0 will as well). Therefore it should be quite easy to create an algorithm to determine the average price for any particular item.

My suggestion is that there should be a single button in the sales interaction menu that will immediately place that item (or multiple items in a single stack) onto the wards/auctionhouse/whateveryouwanttocallit for the average price of that item.

Obviously this system should be optional, and players should still be allowed a more detailed interface to set their own prices should they choose to do so. But having a one-click-sell option would be very nice for people who wish to just sell their items at the going rate without having to go to all the trouble of searching through the sales history to find out what the going rate actually is.

Current system, minus retainers and the horrendous UI lag, is just fine. I should be able to buy and sell stuff from a single interface, instead of there being two seperate ones. The retainers, while creative, are excruciatingly slow to work with, and even other games with hired merchant systems are easier to use (MapleStory probably the biggest example, though you have to pay real money to actually search the damn thing)

Some of the issues people want to address, like undercutting, are not preventable. People will undercut. It's just how economics works.

Outside of the issues I described, it's hard to find too much fault. We have searching by name (Worth noting that XI did NOT have this) and by category, we have price history, we have buy from the item list, the buying end of the system is fine now. It's the seller's side that needs most of the work.

true, the auction house in XI encouraged undercutting, as the lowest value items had top selling priority when a bid was made. Ergo you could theoretically bid a rare weapon/armor or items for 1 gil, and sell it for the AH listed value.

XI's AH system with a search feature would be perfect. I'm not sure how I feel about buyout prices really.

There is really no reason at all for there to be any kind of bidding or auction system involved. All we need is a functional market system that makes it easy to buy and sell items quickly and efficiently. Trying to model it after an actual auction in any way just confuses things.

Literally the only reason for an Auction House is because WoW had it.
(XI called it an Auction House but it didn't really work like one.)

Edit: Clicked the link, you know they let you swap CoP rings right? Can toss the Sattva and pick up a Rajas for your PLD. I see you made empy sword/shield + relic so you probably would want to upgrade the slot.

Ugh. Same tired argument I had two years ago about market wards versus auction houses versus whatever the f**k.

The price of an item is dictated by the availability and demand of that item. The method that players use to trade with themselves does not dicate the price of a commodity unless government can and does step in to regulate. That's the cold, hard truth of any market.

Blind bid systems give a temporary illusion to buyers that they're not purchasing from undercutters or people exploiting the market, but their opinion is worthless. Savvy sellers can easily exploit any stem to "undercut" and "cheat". It is an inevitable conclusion.

You guys need to get over your aversion to undercutting, because there is no system that SE can implement and futilely try to enforce, that will stop undercutting.

maybe can put HQ orders to replace the buy orders... but the buy orders would be cool to have for ppl esp crafters....

For me the bottom line is efficiency. I want to be able to buy items I want quickly and easily. And I also want to be able to sell items I have quickly and easily.

The way it is set up now creates roadblocks for both. I'm OK with slot limits so you have to wait for stuff to sell, but I really dislike how you cannot see the price history from your retainer UI, or not being able to see HQ items because of too many NQ items up for sell.

If people want the items that I desperately want to get rid of, it shouldn't be so annoying getting it to them.
