I believe that Uematsu-San is no longer working on the music team.
good that man needs a break, besides its time for somebody else to take up his BGM mantle.
Aw :\ Im wondering did he make the Garuda battle theme?
I don't think so. He made most of the stuff that was in the game before team restructure. Most everything else is new i believe.
Don't think so most of music was made by the other members of the team i like one battle theme that remind me a lot of kingdom heart battle theme in the main town. at least it sound a lot like kingdom heart version there is a member there who did a few songs for kingdom heart lol.
I don't think uematsu have been doing any of the new songs issue why most of the songs fail is he did not have a working game to base it off just screenshot and ideas if he had 2.0 from day one i bet the songs would have been 10x better.
Yeah he hasn't done anything new since the actual launch version of the game. Which is fine by me, because although there are some good tracks in the original version, these new tracks they have been creating have been pretty great. Darnus fight tracks are amazeballs.
Ya the new tracks are incredible! I just didnt know if Uematsu made them all and they slowly are adding in the tracks as the game progresses or if its a new team working on the tracks. Im thinking he made like 80 tracks? My favorite track of the whole game so far is the one that plays in Merchant Wards I think in the earlier storyline with the NPC Minfillia, the slow one. Ugh! Its so beautiful!!! :)
No, and I think we're the better for it.
I haven't been wowed any of his music made in the past 10 years.
Now Shimomura. She's worthy of high name projects.
What's sad is I read somewhere that some of Uematsu's work in the current version will be removed when 2.0 hits. Sad to see some of his songs that wont ever be in game again.
Agreed. I'm fine with the new music team. Or Mitsuda, if someone can find where he went. Or we can try and have Sakimoto and Iwata makeup for FFXII. Or Hamauzu could "re-explore" Unlimited SaGa's soundtrack. Anything but more Nobuo if he's just going to phone-in his sappy shit.
The community complains about this game not being final fantasy enough, but they're happy to see Uematsu's music, probably the most Final Fantasy thing about this game at launch, gone.
You people. I just.
You people.
This right here is a very sad day, because when I think of him I think of Final Fantasy. If some of the new music,( Garuda, Van Darnus) was by someone else, then that composer is headed in the right direction, but I really hope they don't try to erase all of his tracks from 2.0. The music in this game is 50% the reason I play.
They won't erase all of Uematsu's tracks, it makes up most of the soundtrack.
The original soundtrack was around 70-ish songs, all done by Uematsu. Not all were in the game at launch, most were just waiting for future use, like the event songs.
So the patches that introduced new tracks to the game were a combination of unused Uematsu tracks and completely new music, composed by SE's in-house music team (Naoshi Mizuta, Ryo Yamazaki, and Tsuyoshi Sekito).
The new music team's contributions have only been around 20 tracks (and a few remixes of Uematsu songs), so the soundtrack is still mostly Uematsu.
For those that are curious, the VAN Darnus battle track is Uematsu (at launch it was the theme to Coerthas leves, but they changed it), but the DEUS Darnus track (2nd phase) is the new music team. Garuda theme is also from the new team.
Sadly not but i hope he can make some new tracks for future expansions. He is still the man after all.
Nobuo Uematsu is a bloody legend but he's just that, a legend. whats really needed is new blood in the classical VG scene now more than ever. Uematsu and Yoko Shimomura are both getting up there in the years....sure age doesn't mean a whole lot to a composer but one of these days those legends, they will be gone.... its time to start making new legends.
I hope Uematsu will have some new works in finished 2.0, I seriously love his work.
The FF franchise has a lot of good music but when in doubt sometimes clever use of ambient sounds give an mmo a nice touch (take Dynamis for instance and this new 10 minute song someone posted on the forums recently).
I know I only speak for myself, but I've been playing with the games music on mute for the last 8 months because the music just distracts me, and the sounds around me (like cracks on Ifrit, or meteors on Nael) are amplified.
Uematsu has done great things, but I don't think most of the tracks for FFXIV can be counted among them ( there are several good ones however).
I absolutely love most of Uematsu's music, especially his older stuff. However, most of the guitar-heavy stuff (i.e. levequest music) that he composed for FFXIV...I could really take them or leave them. There are definitely a few standout tracks of his in the 1.0 catalog though, mostly the field themes and Answers.
Aside from that, Soken and the rest of the current sound team have been doing great work. Uematsu is always nice to have, but let's not act as though the game doesn't have an excellent sound team running things as it is.
I was never a fan of Uematsu's work in FFXIV. It's just not as defining as his earlier work. Granted, Navigator's Glory and Born of the Boughs are noteworthy, but I think it's high time we set aside the synthesizer and hardcore guitar...
Edit: On that note, bring back Hitoshi Sakimoto.
Well guys.. flame me but... I do like Uematsuś style
Correct me if I am wrong but HE DID NOT make the score in FF13-series right?
The music in 13 (at leat in my point of view) sucks
Games like Lost Odyssey and the last story, have AMAZING music done by him.
I do think that FF lost some of the "final fantasy" wihout him
He helped with the music in XIII line -- XIII's music was pretty damn great, especially XIII-2, but I personally found Mizuta and Ito the better male composers Square has had.
I'm pretty happy with Mizuta doing XIV's music. He did an amazing job with XI.
Don tell me that FFXIś music isnt great?
Ther are MANY amazing tracks on that game... done by him correct?
I am sorry and but I SIMPLY cant stand XIII music.
too comercial....
maybe i am biased by how horrible the game is.
Can you tell me wich tracks i should listen to?
i got hte CE so i got the soukdtrack of XIII-2
XIII-2's music was done by Mizuta. I wasn't a really big fan of XIII's soundtrack even though it was one of the most redeeming qualities presented by that mess.
yeah... FFXIII and FFXIII-2 are GARBAGE Imo... ANYONE with me on this?
I think the new music will mostly be composed by Soken and the current sound team. They've been doing a good job IMO since the reshuffling of the dev team. I like Uematsu's music but I don't know how involved he's going to get with FFXIV going forward.
Naoshi Mizuta is on the 2.0 sound team. I have high hopes :D
Oh, it's such a cliché to say that FFXIII sucks. I bet half the people who say that, haven't even played it. I personally found it to be a great game.
As far as FFXIV music goes, I think that the original soundtrack was fine for the most part, but it's clear to me that Uematsu had too little to work with when he made it. My main problem is that most tracks are way too short, especially the field themes. It's interesting that many of the battle themes are long tracks, with several movements, when they're usally only on for ten seconds since normal battle are so short.

The BGM for Gold Saucer was memorable, Crystal Tower as well, will FF related content have reappearance of those BGM?
Y: Of course. Not much of current BGM will be left. We are aiming for music where old fans can feel that this is FF by arranging the crystal theme or arranging the level up music. We just put in the final Neil Van Darnus battle and for that there is an opera which we received comments on the forum that it reminded them of Sephiroth. That music is really popular on the forums and we also released a lyrics in Latin. This is the FF like feel so I am particular with the musics.
