All these interviews pouring in lately
And it looks like things are just warming up.
Who said there'd be no flood bahahaha
But the interviews don't REALLY tell us much.
In every single one, there's maybe one new piece of info...
I'm not going to lie. It's starting to feel that SE's use of "flood" is not a flood of new information but a flood of information in general. Almost every internet game site I know has had an interview of XIV on it. It even got the community choice award on Destructiod.
Flood
1. An overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry.
2. A flood tide.
3. An abundant flow or outpouring: received a flood of applications. See Synonyms at flow.
4. A floodlight, specifically a unit that produces a beam of intense light.
5. Flood In the Bible, the covering of the earth with water that occurred during the time of Noah.
None of those things has happened Yet. The flood was as stated by SE themselves to occur during ALL SUMMER! It is August 22.... Are they doing interviews ? Yes! Is it out of the norm for them to do that ? Not Really. Is the information getting out new ? Not really, there a few peaces of new information here and there, but mostly is stuff that we have already read 100 times already. Considering SE did not release themselves a trailer of the gameplay for the public, nor any information regarding the 2 classes that where found out, the amount of new and important information RELEASED BY SE THEMSELVES is Laughable at best, if you are to call it a "Flood".
Take into consideration that some of the new information, has been "We wont have this or this or this and maybe not that at release" wich is not good information.... at all.
Should be more info at PAX Prime...
which is 2 next week! woot!
I can't really play other 3D games, so I'll hang out at SE booth ^^:
If I read one more time "Should be more info at _____" I'm going to cry.
No matter how much info they release, it's not enough. I'm sure people would still complain even if they sent a demo to everyone who was interested because apparently they have nothing better to do than wait for a video game to waste their lives on. This game will probably be a standard MMO will an FF touch, anyone who is expecting more will probably be very disappointed.
They said we going to have lots of information comming AUG sure we learn a lot but still not a great lot but that fine at least we saw 2.0 running :)
Idk I think we're underestimating the amount of info we have gotten. I think if you go back and start nitpicking, we've learned quite a bit.
1) Limit Breaks
2) More details on alpha/beta
3) New interface
4) More mounts (Magitek!!)
5) Stuffz about Crystal Tower and PvP
6) New TP mechanics
7) Golden Saucer
8) Gameplay videos (another due in a week or two)
9) Cross-server content finder goodies
10) Art for Odin, Ramuh, and Leviathan
11) More info on Chocobo Raising
12) No more blinking!
13) Jumping mechanics
14) Beginner questing information
15) Low-level dungeon content
16) etc etc etc.
Seriously if you make a list of crap its quite a bit. Its like they have to give every detail of the game away (who does that anyway) in order for ppl to be satisfied.
But SE controls whether video is allowed to be shot or not. Thats the key.
And again, those videos would not be possible if SE did not release that much information at events.
While the interviews are highly similar, that is more the fault of the interviewer than it is of the interviewee. It is up to the interviewer to ask the right questions, not the same questions as everyone else.
We have received a lot of information about 2.0. I don't understand people who want to know every detail about a game before it is released, it ruins the whole sense of awe. Honestly, if someone is on the edge of whether or not to try the game, what more information, beyond what is already known, do they have to release to convince them? Maybe more in-game footage of the combat system and graphics quality.
We already know the main elements being updated/added and we'll learn the rest when the game comes out.
Well, interviewers can ask all the questions they want, if SE isn't going to answer them then it doesn't matter.
I'm not saying I'm not grateful for what we do know, but it's hardly what I would say is a "flood" of information.
My concern is that, yes, we know all these things but SE doesn't need to sell us on trying out 2.0.
How many of those new customers they want know any of this? They're the ones who need to be flooded and that won't happen through videos shot by fans.
Ready the Halo array.
True.
Not really. We know just as much as we knew before.
We knew about this since E3.
We knew about this since past producer live letter.
We knew about this since the 2.0 PDF file.
True.
We knew about this.
And you know this how?
We knew about this.
Not exactly new information, but fair enough.
Not really.
Ok?
What "mechanics?". You push a button and the character jumps.
Hardly interesting at all.
What?
It's you cause i'm not feeling a "flood". I feel as I have been lied to. And this isn't the first time. If you call that pathetic trailer and random chit chat about things that are gonna happen sometime in the future, a "flood", then SE certainly have you fooled. At least that is the way I feel at this moment. I'm sorry to feel this way, but I do. Where the f*** is the info? Where are the weekly updates on 2.0? Was that mistranslated??
Gameplay alone was enough to tell me all I needed to know up to 2.0. As Long as the Crowd is happy ( Which they were considering that they got the best PC and Community Award) then, all else will come in due time, and Beta is around the corner.
Can't please everyone, and there are people that are impatient. You'll see when the time is right for SE to tell you. .Dat miners do this very same thing, when SE doesn't want something shown.. then they show it, and people say " We seen this already" but they never "Officially" wanted to show it off till then.
A Realm Reborn is so close I can taste it, You know what the best info for A Realm Reborn? Beta.
A lot of information has been released. You can definitely call it a flood of info for all the people that did not know of, or lost track of FFXIV. And for us, we did receive new information here and there, SE kept their word, I am pleased.
better check your pants OP, no so called informative floods....yet.
I'm still waiting for the flood
Beggars apparently can be choosers.
I beg your pardon? Last I checked, there's been many a star discovered through homemade videos on youtube~ press is press. Everyone who frequents those gaming sites will see the articles. Everyone doing anything remotely related to Final Fantasy or Square Enix will see videos on youtube. I mean everything we are seeing everyone else is seeing. It is a LOT of information, thus I call it a flood.
Sure its not the most detailed, but last I checked no game in history gave many details before its release. I fail to see why FFXIV has to be different.
I get where you're coming from but you seriously can't argue that some off-screen footage and a handful of interviews all saying the same things are "a flood".
There was new information but not a single official gameplay trailer or reveal of any sort and we're nearly done with August now.
Hey I'm not sure if this was put out there or anything but Aug 31 is supposed to be some kind of event for the 25th Anniversary. Probably common knowledge, but I'm late to the party as usual lol.
>.> Definitely looking forward to some Arcanist/Summoner info. I'm so excited!
Honestly, compare it to Guild Wars 2.
I can go out now and find multiple 20-minute to hour-long videos of developers sitting with journalists while gameplay occurs. That's at least one video for each race.
Ultimately, we're arguing personal opinion. There's nothing wrong with you being satisfied. But I feel there wasn't that much we didn't already know. That what we did learn was minor. And that the whole thing was a missed opportunity.
That's exactly my point. I personally feel that we got plenty of info from Gamescom, but because it wasn't an official video uploaded to the FINALFANTASYXIV channel on YouTube, the video doesn't count? That footage alone was enough to amp my hype through the roof. It doesn't matter where the footage came from, it's still information about the game.
It basically falls down to this: you can't please everybody.
I'm just ready to play the game now. =/
See I disagree here. Don't get me wrong the footage got me hype and I can't wait for alpha/beta, but at the same time the fact they didn't release anything official at all and the lodestone has been so quiet (to me) shows a lack of willing on their part to actually promote the game.
Now I hate it when people pull out the Guild Wars 2 card (and this is the first and last time I will, I promise) but look up info from that game and there are literally dozens and dozens of video interviews, hundreds of hours of in-game footage all released within the past 2 weeks.
I know GW2 is basically a finished product and obviously they'd be much more confident in showing off content compared to SE at this moment in time, but it's still regrettable how hush they have been, especially considering how they hyped us all up after E3 promising goodies "all summer long" and all that jazz.
Of course you can't. I would never ever say or imply otherwise.
I don't know but the "Viral" aspect to the information I think is helping them. I don't know about you but interviews are dull, always are and I barely read them but if someone posts a video or a thread on a forum about something "new" they saw I am all over that information. Now, not saying they were smart enough to plan that but I think when it started they saw a value in "letting the community hype the news"
We shouldn't be concerned with how much footage they release to us. We're fine with shakycam footage, we're fine with interviews with niche fansites. We analyze every little tidbit we get, because we're already invested in the game and will be playing at 2.0 regardless.
What SE should actually be concerned with is releasing an actual flood of news, media, footage, and info to the general gaming public. People who have written off the game entirely and won't be enticed to come back with a bootlegged blurry camcorder video or a couple new pieces of concept art.
