Relic Weapons have only been BiS at the end of the expansion, and purely because they have customizable secondaries, contrary to Savage weapons.
It's always been like this. And the only places where gearing can mean the difference between a clear and a wipe is Savage and Extreme, where they already get their weapons. The only times a casual needs to gear up is to make it past iLvL requirements.
Are people discovering this just now? This has been going on for a decade already.
This must be somebodies first relic grind because this is pretty tame in comparison to how it was. Would have some major crash-outs here if you guys had to do the atma grind of ARR or the HW light farm.
Sixty levelling roulettes. It is a lot, and the weapon is never relevant except for at the end of the expansion, it's been that way since ARR. You'll get over it.
i think its fine i like turning off my brains ometimesa and just grinding away at fates/levelling roulettes
Having obtained both of those relics (and Stormblood and Shadowbringers idk about Endwalker though) I can say I’d rather have or book grind than this bullcrap. At least you can just turn up wherever you want / Bozja / whatever and grind that way instead of having to slog your way through billions of outdated content.
ARR and HW by virtue of being so early didn’t have anywhere the amount of ‘dead content’ the game has now. They also didn’t have such bizarre and contradictory gameplay under level synch.
ARR relic had you going to every zone to do fates with a 2% drop rate, 12 in total so an average of 600 fates. With that being the average, some would do well over 1000 to get their atma's and you had to do it with a relic weapon equipped so no using it to level another job. That phase would have to be repeated for every single relic you wanted. Then there was the light grind. No, there was not nearly as much "dead" content but remember this content isn't dead for everybody, we ran into several new players doing our paste grind last night. It was fine, we did it.
Don't even get me started on the HW tome grind and yet another light grind, or just the materia grind of the ARR relic which is another step that makes these look simple and free. The amount of dead content really doesn't matter when you were all sitting in a zone for hours at a time just killing sprites.
The relic weapons haven't really ever been 'worth' it.
Now if you want to ask whether they feel like relic weapons anymore? Nah, they are just glorified tome weapons.
Forums been riddled with bait post like this for a while. Some have even been ai generated lmao
You guys need to understand Miguel is a troll, he does this thing where he will glance at threads in the forums looking for complaints and will make a thread attempting to laser-focus on it, half the time he gets something right, this game indeed has a lot of issues after all, but then he also makes a thread that is completely baffling, and we have a recent one from him as an example, I can even narrow down exactly which thread he attempted to steal the point from, it's point 5 of this thread.
Y'all need to stop taking Miguel's bait
If you really want one of the glams, sure. I still use relics as glams on PLD/SMN/WHM.
If you like experiencing the journey, then also sure.
Else it's not needed since comparable gear can be found for far less effort.
It’s worth it for me. I like to play multiple different jobs, so I gear one of them with tomestone gear and the rest with crafted and relics. And the relic is going to be keystone of one of my planned gearsets because I can get my choice of substats.
They haven't been equal to Tome weapons ever on release. They are for glamour and gearing alt jobs which is very handy. The grind is rough, but sure what else will you be doing until the next expansion in 16 months?
It's definitely not worth wasting your time on.
I still think that, in their current state, Eureka Relics are the best. Every Fate you do, you progress in your quest, light farm goes very fast with Louhi and Cassie spawn mobs, and you can get one in around 20 hours of farm. Maybe Hydatos might recieve a small boost in term of crystal drops, but overall, it's the most consistent experience. It might have been awful when it released, but in this current state, it's nice. A relic takes around 15 hours to do, which is long enough to be rewarding, but not too long.
ARR and HW had their awful steps that took far too long (the light step is only ok since you can do it unsync, it was wild before that)
the current relics are better than the ex weapons, tho
Nah, the Stormblood relic was fine even when it was current...if you were okay with average.
Because the Eureka relic had stat gambling attached to one of the last stages, you farmed light in Pyros and then spent that light to reroll the stats on it, with a random chance on which stats you got and how high those stats were.
This could make it absolutely atrocious or not bad at all depending on how lucky you got and how close you wanted to get to the cap, but if you only wanted it for glamour you didn't need to care about stats at all.
But this also made it probably the most satisfying relic to finish, because it was the only time that a relic could vastly outclass every other weapon in the game. The Eureka relic had a substat total of potentially 1000 (which could be entirely crit if you grinded and gambled hard enough) while the savage weapon had a substat total of 605.
Sure, they are marginally better. But the time investment for how little you gain makes it not really worth it.
But that's just how relic have almost always been, glorified glamour sticks that are not worth it if you don't care for how they look.
The only time the relic was worth it as a gear upgrade was in early ARR and at the end of Stormblood.
People think DT steps are grindy?
Anyway the value of a relic is relative, do you want a shiny glowy weapon that's statistically only weaker than tome and savage weapons? Then go for it, if not, don't sweat it.
Oh god I think I blocked out the ore, bone, seeds and shells, poetics grind right? We got lucky too, had a friend who had 7 crafting alts (he said it was for the retainer room) and we ran every alt through every turn of coil unsynced to get the 100 tomes new player bonus. He came on his main too because he had them on a different account...it was weird but even doing all that it was a hell of a grind.
I definitely turned in my Zeta to avoid the fates lol.
I have to amit i had excalibur for my PLD glam for a while. But the new look on sword. It looks like a gladiator Got recognized for their deeds and got their first ever jobstone. New weapon means more glamour options to work with. I can't say much caus emy glamour right now is Jaune Arc from rwby but you win some and lose some
"always been the way it works" is not really a great reason to say it's fine? Shouldn't there be more ways to gear up than doing savage(not to mention having more stuff to use said gear on besides savage/ultis), or is grinding 60 leveling roulettes not "worthy" of such things
ONce relic weapons aren't BiS they are good for glamour or a completionist goal. Except eureka i still haven't ifnished one and i really don't want too unless i find a group to help me do it all. Otherwise i just been doing every new step of teh DT relic that came out that way im not farming every single step either at 7.55 or 8.0+
Taking the bait, but worth it IMO.
"Real" Tomestone weapons take SEVEN Weeks to get one because the time gating on the final boss of the tomestone's normal raid series. Even at a casual pace, a relic takes, what, 2 weeks?
Edit : Forgot to put in normal raid series.
I think the relic weapons look really nice as glam (which i have none of) but I just got to DT msq. At first I thought, this isn't so bad ... but now i'm like okay I GET IT (no probs with the areas just feels like a slog) I digress .... the Eureka weapons look nice for glam too! I also think some of the Ultimate Raid weapons look really nice too which I don't know if I will get to. I love all the glowing weapons and metallica gear. And personally ... I think orange is one of the more unflattering colors for clothes but they actually don't look bad in this game. I guess cuz it's like burnt sienna color. That can really look nice with blues and browns.
