To be fair, it *is* pretty boring. I don't do daily roulettes unless I'm actively levelling a job (and even then I mainly do Levelling Roulette, AR Roulette & MSQ Roulette, the rest I don't care for).
Since levelling everything to 100, I just do Mentor Roulette. Don't care for the rest honestly.
I’m in-between.
On one part, I love having something that I can do as a daily routine. Roulettes fits nicely for this criteria. I also like dungeons in general. I like pressing my AoE buttons that tends to get ignored in ‘raiding environments’. I’m okay being a healer in lv50 or lower dungeons because they were not designed to be wall pulled in mind but nevertheless possible without tank’s god awful self sustain in higher levels. The dungeon pools are also generally more varied than everything else, so it keeps the mental image memory fresh except Expert since we’re stuck to 2 outcomes for 4 months lol.
On the other part, there are revolting one like illusion of choice i.e. CT Raid Roulette which is not only because it’s heavily biased, we’re also dealing with highly simplified version of jobs that feels barebone at best. One is tolerable. Both at the same time is a cardinal sin in my book. Alexander Raid from NR also teeters close to being straight up unfun. The only saving grace is they’re super quick lol.
MSR, who? GH, who? Mentor Roulette? I don’t touch those. Looks like a masochistic endeavor lol.
I like leveling, high lvl, trial and nraid. I never do msq or alliance unless with a friend who wants it.
Expert and level cap depends on the mood.
I didn't mind doing most of them at first... then Stormblood and Shadowbringers content started getting unlocked in dungeons/trials/raids, and I can't do most of that stuff without dying. I have literally never gotten to the end of Dying Gasp or Seat of Sacrifice without being on the floor multiple times, and that includes the first time I did them for MSQ progress, which completely deflated whatever "big moment" they were trying to go for when the cutscenes didn't match how massively outclassed my Warrior of Light actually was, and by all accounts the bosses may as well have canonically won and the game ended there.
Since I don't find it fun to be dead weight who has to be carried across the finish line, I just stopped queuing for everything except Guildhests and Frontlines. And EVEN THEN I only did Frontlines until I reached Series 30, and then promptly went back to avoiding it because the mode just isn't fun anymore (especially after the addition of Role Actions). Nobody does Guildhests either, so that's often a 30+ minute queue I skip as well.
I'd probably do MSQ Roulette if cutscenes could be skipped, but they can't, so into the trash it goes.
None of the rewards are worth it anymore, I've grown tired of data center traveling all the time to get anything done anyway, and I don't care about making Dynamis queues better by joining content I don't enjoy.
I feel for you. I actively avoid queueing for 'Expert' or 'High Level Dungeons' roulettes as I can't deal with the DDR-mechanics of the new content.
Which doesn't mean I don't get the likes of the Arcadion trials when I queue Normal Raid roulettes. And I always feel like a burden to the teams that I get put in for them.
The only problem I have with roulettes is that even though they say that no dungeons are weighted differently, I always seem to get the same handful every single day. I got king mog every day for over a month last year in trials and 1000 yawns is constant in leveling That isnt even touching the constant CT raids in alliance. Then when they fiddled with dungeons and made them easier so trusts could do them, they made them even more boring.
If we could lock out 3 dungeons/trials per roulette each day, that has more than say 10, that would make running them at least a little better.
It's fun, yes, due to the variety. Especially if you switch jobs sometimes. But you brought up Crystal Tower as if it's the only roulette. In mentor roulette, for example, you don't ever get alliance raids except in-progress (and you can disable that).
Alliance Raid roulette was fun for me when doing it for the relic because it was rarely Crystal Tower.
I enjoy it as a daily routine. I enjoyed it a lot more when jobs were more fun to play.
I swear, by the way folks talk about it, I feel like I'm the only one who LOVES the Crystal Tower raid series. That said, I do get it quite frequently and I believe that Crystal Tower raids would be better off put in the Duty Roulette: Main Scenario section. Afterall, any of the raids from that series would take about the same time to complete as Praetorium, and CT is a requirement to progress the story now anyways, so it fits the conditions...
Otherwise, Duty Roulettes don't bother me for the most part due to the variety, but Expert specifically can get old pretty quick given that its the same 2-3 dungeons over and over.
I don't mind it. Least not conceptually. In practice this thing is clearly weighted to pick certain content. You can't expect me to believe it picks Crystal Tower with an 80% rate in Aether of all places. But I can choose to not do roulettes I don't wanna do, too. So ultimately it's just a decent way to churn out like 50k gil per bonus.
Yes, I like to do nraid, trials, and mentor rous before checking my subs and logging off for a few hours. After finishing my DT alt job relics, I just started working on clearing PT.
i do normal raid and trial roulette almost daily. sometimes they are fun (most important critarium for that though is having people who mess up a lot). i dont do the others anymore
I dont play the game to be a background NPC in someone elses MSQ, I don't touch Daily roulette unless I'm forced to by other content
Expert during raid tiers. The rest no, unless there's a relic step involved. Syncing kinda sucks the fun out of it for me, else I'd be doing them routinely to help out players.
After more than 10 years, I hate the kind of dailies we have.
I'm not doing it for few years already because rewards are just not enough.
1) Regular duty roulette/ 50/60/70etc roulette: exp bonus is not enough to justify running it over just highest level dungeon without risk of being stuck in one of boring ARR dungeons
2) Raid and trial roulette: simply dead because amount of exp you're getting is just miserable and most of the times you'll spend ~10 minutes. Much more efficient to register highest level dungeon instead.
3) Alliance roulette: not enough exp again. Can be somewhat justified if you get LOTA/Syrcus, but anything else and exp per time is just abysmal.
4) Expert roulette: I can simply go do the hunt train in less time than it takes to queue and do expert roulette and get 3x weekly tomes. Why would I EVER step into expert roulette considering this?
5) Other roulettes, such as MSQ or Guildhests: I don't even know why would anyone run them at all.
I'd rather do Crystal Tower than Mhach or Ivalice synced again, that's for sure. Only time I step into those two anymore is if someone puts up a unsync run because they're looking for a quick clear for the story or farming minions/music/cards. Likewise, I have no real desire to run through Nier despite unlocking it, and I likely won't touch the Endwalker or Dawntrail alliance raids either, not even unsync, because the power difference to cut through them cleanly unsync just isn't there once you're doing 90/100 content.
It's why I'm not surprised that Crystal Tower is the only thing that pops up so often in alliance raid roulette, because a lot of people seem to forget that not everyone finds alliance raids fun, and if not for CT being mandatory, a lot of people would skip that too. It's also why any time someone suggests making all alliance raids be mandatory for MSQ progress I facepalm hard, because forcing people to do something they hate just makes them not want to play the game to avoid said thing. If I was forced to do Nier to escape Shadowbringers (which was already a miserable expansion to play through in general) I would just be stuck in Shadowbringers forever because I don't even want to do it unsync. I hear its a slog due to the massive HP pools, the countless ways one alliance can screw over another, and just bizarre mechanics being thrown at you altogether. On top of that, I've never played Nier its self (nor do I want to), so whatever spectacle or fanservice they're going for is completely lost on me. Nothing about it sounds fun, it would just be an undesired chore and guess what, it would be even MORE of a reason to avoid its associated roulette because its a guaranteed 30 minute penalty if it popped up (same as Mhach and Ivalice turned into after awhile).
Again, you would think people would stop and consider WHY a lot of players actively avoid unlocking certain dungeons/trials/raids instead of thinking that forcing people into doing them would somehow fix everything, when it more than likely would have the exact opposite effect by making people dodge doing roulettes the moment they "ruin" one with an undesired unlock. And no, the threat of "well I guess they just don't get roulette rewards then!" isn't the arm-twister they think it is if this very topic is anything to go by with people openly admitting they avoid during certain, or even ALL roulettes because clearly the rewards stopped being worth it.
Yes, I enjoy doing my daily roulettes. If i don't feel it one day, I just don't do them. Or only do certain ones. I usually do them all.
I don't think pushing CT into MSQ would work. One requires 4. One requires 24. I can't see where CT would ever pop.
As a rule, I only do Alliance and Normal Raids. I'll only do MSQ if I'm leveling a job and I'm close to max level and just need an extra push. Same with Trial.
Lately, though, I'll only stay in an Alliance raid if it's Nier or higher. If I get Ivalice, I'll only stay on if I queued as something other than BLM (because BLM is my favorite job at max level but BORING BEYOND ALL BELIEF at anything less than Nier). If it's CT, I'll drop because it's not worth 15-20 minutes of pure boredom. I haven't unlocked the HW Alliance raids on this character and I never will so I don't have to worry about them.
Depends on if I am in the mood and if I need to do them or want to do them for fun.
It’s almost like you can complain about certain elements of the game and be happy with others. Does that weaken my feedback because I’m not willing to unsub over complaints……yes. But it doesn’t mean I haven’t contracted my spending on this game massively
But regardless you can log in, talk to your friends and maybe do a bit of crafting and still say that daily’s are pretty bad these days
For green weekly tomes yes. I skip expert cus those mechanics is wild . I do High Level Cap, Leveling, Trial, Normal Raid and then Alliance. If I get lv50 AR, I just do it and get it over with lol.
Just finished my relic light gathering and don't have to do them anymore. Normally the only reason I would do Roulettes is either to level up jobs or if I'm with friends. Though even Expert I'll simply avoid.
Normal Raids and Trials are fine until I get A2, A9, Thordan or Bismarck, which instantly makes me regret my life choices. CT raids have great design and music but haven't been fun because of how you skip literally everything and when you don't, it's people unironically wiping on Angra Mainyu... anyway, I just take penalty when non-Syrcus Tower CT pops for Alliance Raid roulette. Syrcus Tower is fun cuz my guy Amon is here and there's lore.
Leveling is okay as long as the dungeon is The Aery or higher. It usually isn't. High Level Dungeons is fine because the pool is ginormous. Level Cap Dungeons get better as the expac progresses but the rewards are not great. Guildhest is ass so I skip it. Expert is often ass as soon as the .1 patch drops because having your roulette be a coin flip is, indeed, miserable... unless both dungeons in the roulette are genuinely fun, which has not been the case very often.
Frontline is good. I don't think, kill some stuff, and suddenly the game is over and there's free Series EXP and sometimes free commendations. MSQ roulette used to be unbearable but it is just mid now. Still wouldn't do it tho. As for Mentor Roulette... It's fine. I'd like more of a reward, but that would encourage the Mentor rep tanking even harder than it already has.
The most entertainment I get out of roulettes is queueing as a mentor. Otherwise, it's rare for it to be any challenge at all.
I typically only do them if I need something from them such as the EXP or tomes and queue according to my needs. If I'm bored, I might queue into Trials/NRs as a healer in hopes I get a spicy Arcadion run or Shinryu with a bunch of sprouts.
It's also a nice filler activity to do while hanging out with friends, but other than that I have tons of other things to do in-game so I won't do them for no reason unless I'm seriously bored and too tired for anything else.
Do you know you can just walk (literally walking by pressing W or pushing the analog) through the game w/o casting a spell and clearing all normal contents? Including SB/ShB dungeons and Expert/Normal Raids.
I mean, if mechanics or the pace of a particular content feels too much, you can reduce the amount of things you have to do while learning step by step, including your dps/rotation and prioritise getting a better understanding of that particular content.
And if u don’t know what to do simply follow one companion.
I get that there are different players and “level of skills” but I think most of the “I can’t do it” is just a misinterpretation of “I just don’t want to find a solution that works”.
Anyways to each their own.
At most I would do trials/raids and maybe alliance raid, but I don't even do those daily.
I don't run the dungeons/expert/blabla, but I think I've done enough community service in there in the past anyway.
The problem is that the Main Scenario content has been retooled to be 4 man, but CT is still designed as 8 man parties. Sure, you could hypothetically do CT with half the number of people, but then everyone would complain about having to do mechanics.
As for OP's question: Yeah, I do actually like daily roulettes. It's been especially fun to see how pretty the old dungeons look on the new graphics engine in this last year.
This. If I deliberately jump on safe spots after someone's died for the 4th time (despite lengthy multilingual explanations) and dorito myself in hopes of getting them to at least try to not sandbag, I do kinda expect them to follow me or any party member at this point. But running around like a headless chicken and then complaining about how difficult "DDR" is - it's literally just memorization btw - is easier, I suppose.
In the first 5 years of me playing this game(Started in 2013), I did daily roulettes alot. Now I only do it for relic or during the even patches I do expert for tomes.
I'd maybe have a bit of fun if the jobs weren't in such a state, only being made worse by lvl sync
and of course if I was seeing different dungeons, trials, ARs, etc than the usual suspects, but no.
It's always the same 5-10 dungeons, same trials and AR..... it's always the Crystal Tower ones.
I used to enjoy doing dailies like expert as an enjoyable routine when the jobs and the pve were actually engaging.
Last expansion I have slowly reduced my participation in expert runs to a crawl and I have barely touched roulettes beyond frontlines this expansion.
I don't run experts anymore because the DRR is difficult or whatever nonsense.
I don't run experts because the DDR makes me want to gouge my eyes out of boredom or sheer annoyance.
Edit: also to make matters worse, in the past we didn't have yet all that crazy powercreep and ability pruning/loss in older content yet and running lower level content roulettes was actually not excruciatingly laughably bad as it is today.
I hate daily’s lol.
The Expert and Level cap dungeons are okay, because it's a light activity to do so you just don't get rusty with your jobs. I wish we could have a level capped version of all current expansion dungeons in a pool, though (something would need to be done with the drops).
The rest of the roulettes... I honestly avoid them. Not only the level 50 content that we get constantly is mindless mechanic wise, but the biggest aggravator is the leveled down rotations. It just won't do, and above all, it messes a bit with my muscle memory if I do it too much.
