[Request] Mouseover Actions

Many jobs in FFXIV, especially among tanks and healers, have single-target abilities that require briefly targeting allies before returning focus to enemies. This can feel a little clunky in the middle of combat. A mouseover casting option would allow players to use these abilities without having to switch targets back and forth.

With such a feature, players could simply place their cursor over a party member in the party list (or even on their character model) and activate the ability directly. It would function somewhat like soft targeting on a controller, but adapted for mouse and keyboard users.

Since so many jobs now have single-target tools, whether heals, buffs, or defensive abilities, this type of system would help players respond more quickly and smoothly during encounters. For example, Astrologian makes frequent use of single-target heals and cards, Dark Knight has abilities like Oblation, and Summoner provides support with Rekindle.

While macros can provide a workaround, they don’t queue abilities reliably and often feel inconsistent in fast-paced situations. By contrast, games like WoW already include this functionality as a standard feature. Since the FFXIV team has been gradually incorporating popular “modded” quality-of-life features into the base game, this could be a natural and helpful addition to consider.

I wish, i can't imagine healing in wow without this feature now.
The only possible reason i could see them being against it is it'd be unfair to console players who wouldn't be able to make use of this, but i don't think thats a good enough reason to not have quality of life

Ironically, controller players do have access to what is functionally a mouse-over, which is called soft target. By going through you party list up and down, you place a temporary target on them, which will snap back to your main target once you use one action.

And unlike with a mouse, we don't need macros to make that possible, it's built-in.

cycling is wasting a lot of time, especially when u want to cycle 24 people alliance raid.

But ye, game has targeting system for mouse over, last target, nearest target, focus target, ur raid, ur enemies in pvp and etc.

ffxiv devs are incompetent, not going to happen in ffxiv. They will simply have no idea how to programm that, or it will take 3-5 years to figure out, if they get a green light. Remember the mess with portraits, and how long it took to make a simple button to update it. Same goes with Tab targeting, that works like total garbage, compared to other mmo games, no one cares.

What the game lacks when it comes to this is an (exclusively) allied secondary target that can be locked onto independently of your main target, allowing any healing or support ability to directly go onto that target instead as long as it's locked on, much like casting heals or supportive abilities without any target currently goes automatically on yourself. Currently the only way to do this is to create cumbersome macros tied to specific party targets that take up hotbar space.

It would be nice if they could be queued, I used to use them a lot in Heavensward.

all the fonctions you are trying to have are madeable with macros, there is 15 legit lines of macro and 99 personal ones and 99 shared ones
if you use things like:

/ac "Cure" <2>

shouldnt it make a direct heal to main tank if your a healer

add the same to any spells you wanna be able to swift target, you over 120 buttons programable in the game, be imagnative, there is macros from targetting to make actions and even somes to lower and rise the volume, every single command are described in the macro text command help.

you think the dev cant do better, do it yourself!!!

This would be nice, as long as hitbox/UI jank doesn't get in the way like it often does for click targeting.

As a heavy user of mouseover macros, I would like this feature to help save my macro slots. This request has been raised repeatedly in both the EN and JP communities for over a decade, yet it still hasn't been implemented.

Regarding queueing, I believe that a macro which sets a normal action to a hotbar slot can be used in the same way as usual, except that it requires a double press. I intentionally omitted <wait> in the macro below, but the drawback is that it may not function reliably at high FPS.
