Scholar Rework 8.0

This been something been needing to happen for a long time. but lets talk about what needs to happen


Scholar/Summoner Split

This is been something needing to be done ever sense realm reborn. sense both of them hold each other back. having second healer at level 1 would be over all good for health of the game. rather then at level30 does not matter the fact that you level up fast in this game it is about presentation and first impressions. as there is 2 tanks at start of the game so should there be 2 healers.


Cleaning Up the Janky Mess That is Scholar
Frankly I do not care if scholar is outstanding end game. when whole class design of this job makes you say "Huh!?" why!?" as you level kit does not make sense at all. doesn't really fit what a shield healer is. matter of fact what is shield healer squire-enix. really haven't enlightened anyone on this other then when introduced

healer community always been torn we have heal bots just want heal not cast single dps ability then have healers that understand green dps is important would like more buttons.

am on the side where i think dps buttons are fine as is we gotten few new ones. any more would be pushing it. however my issue is how simular healers are to each other and identity as a whole is at risk

Why? Why is internal conflict amongst skills so weird to understand. You can only expend your energy doing so much, you can’t do everything at the same time. Why is SCH’s kit disjointed for doing that?

It’s also the class with by far the strongest overall mitigation and shielding potential. I’d argue like SGE it still has too much pure healing but it’s not like SGE where it feels like a regen healer they put shields on the GCD. What is actually your problem with SCH? Because as it stands now while I lament the loss of HW SCH modern SCH is about the best we are going to get for their awful healer design

yes potential. but dancer also has that potential doing great damage but doesn't always work out that way. specially when manage crit Alpo . scholar requires alot of tank / healer synergy if tank doesn't use proper top of your mitigation its all for not. most tanks kinda face rolling there keyboard. relaying on others use proper abilities for your abilities to truly shine isn't good game design . in a perfect world. where everyone plays there job right correctly makes no errors but we dont live in that world. moment you queue into a dungeon or do dailies. you find said people every

another situation paint out. lot healers really lazy. do not keep up the tank.. scholar topping someone off at low level is lot harder then said whm/ast for that matter. low level feels like your panic heal. at first eos doesn't heal very good. if your max level and your raider. this has nothing to do with you. only time you experience low end content is if you queue up for dailies. shield healing in general becomes extremely annoying to deal with when your tank wall to wall pulls. trying heal below level 30 you have no access to any sheilds. only healin psychic and fair. u will be spamming that it. adlo you spam also trying get that big juicy shield off. hoping your tank has cooldown to spend on it. so prolong the sheild.

I’m sorry what? Are you trying to argue that SCH struggles if the tank doesn’t mitigate because otherwise your post makes zero sense to me. Even if that is your point I don’t particularly agree, when the tank won’t mitigate the last thing you want is a healer that also can’t mitigate like WHM. SCH meanwhile can just mitigate on behalf of the tank so I don’t really see your logic there

As for your point about low level healing all the healers struggle in the 40-45 range because none of them key parts of their kit. Below that eos is basically healing for you. I don’t think any of the three dungeons you don’t have adlo for require you to be desperately spamming physick in such a way as to want adlo present

This kinda goes to show how used to FFXIV some player's minds are, they would just explode if mana had any actual meaning and you had to conserve your output and balance it. >.<

I mean, in particular support jobs should be all about having more they could do (or would want to do) but lacking time and resources to doing all of it. That's kinda the thing that makes supports enjoyable to play, as a concept, it underpins the very idea of a support role.

Scholar with seraphism feels the best it has since shadowbringers gutted it. I just want my double spreadable single target dots back + my aoe dot skill back and it's perfect for me. Maybe buff aetherflow skills like excog and lustrate so we don't just spam energy drain x sacred circle. Also fairy gauge needs a rework/removal.

You need to elaborate what exactly in the kit where it makes you go "Huh?!" because that line is arbitrary.

If you ask me which button that makes me go "Huh?!" the most, surprises: It's the lv100 capstone Seraphism because that's literally just cosplaying WHM and stealing WHM's Cure III gil - I want that button removed for something else. We don't need to be any more similar and powerful for improper reasons. The other being Sacred Soil lv78+ possessing HoT trait. Why do we need that, even?

Seraphism feels great mechanically but I agree it's visually too white mage. If we just used two fairies or even became one it would be better. The hot on sacred soil is part of what makes scholar sage comps so good. Whats wrong with it? I don't think healers need a monopoly on regen/barrier ogcds but should get more unique dps kits like in stormblood. That's where they feel too similar to each other.

Side rant i hate how scholar shifted from dot mage with shield heals to angel waifu barrier wife with no damage buttons. The job fantasy had a total downgrade.

SCH+SGE comp in nutshell:

Comp title = Double Barrier
Looks inside = "So many regens".

I really can't fathom how's that a good look for the dichotomy SE trying to push at us. I don't quite agree with the approach to make regen/barrier split, but if they're going to do this, the least they should do is to commit with it. But instead what we have as the 'de facto preferred composition' today is "SCH+Not WHM".

Additionally, how can people say "on demand Cure III is WHM's niche" when the game barely demands that - so few in fact that a single Seraphism in 3m is enough? At that point, what even is their actual niche? Being bad? lol.

This is a different but not mutually exclusive matter that I can agree with. Being stuck with 1 2 1 1 1 1 1 not one but ALL healers are just beyond lazy. This is why I think it's important to trim healing buttons that we don't need (I mentioned Seraphism earlier) in favor for more interactive, robust dps kits.

I think you have a narrow view of what a DOT class is. You are right. 14’s DOT space has always been hilariously limited. There is no freezing of effects, no bouncing of effects, no explosion of timers, by all rights SCH was never a DOT class, it was a class that crudely filled the space of depth with numbers

However I don’t think that erases the fact that SCH worked, it simply did. The idea of DOT’d work for a healer, damage can be more easily delayed for healing, eos/selene created HOT’s where there was also DOT’s; that same tick by tick control that embrace once had

Do I think SCH is a perfect or even a good DOT class when compared to what others have with better GCD tick rate and boss debuff programming; no; is it the best DOT class we will likely ever get in this game; also by far yes

Maybe I’ve complained on here so long I’ve reached a point where I’ve gone past imagining beautiful hypothetical scenarios for jobs we all know will never actually materialise. I don’t have a problem declaring that HW SCH is and was the best DOT class we will ever get and no constant bleating about a theoretical green DOT mage will ever eventuate

I will say though, given how insanely averse they are to using debuff slots, it seems unlikely that anybody gets >1 DoT. They even removed Viper's single debuff ostensibly for reasons of using a debuff slot and since now everyone would be playing Viper for a few weeks, they didn't want those 15 debuff slots used in alliance raids. Crazy given how many classes have a single debuff or DoT, but that's what happened so I dunno.

Of course, gameplay-wise, better DoT gameplay can be created even with a single DoT. But I also don't see a company such as SQEX being the ones to willingly copy working design from other games, they seem woefully averse to success if it means accepting their current design is inferior to what a competitor is doing.

A good simple change would maybe be to do:

* Bio now lasts a random 15s-60s.
* Dealing damage with a GCD or healing health with a GCD bleeds 1 tick (3s) off all current Bios by that Scholar, dealing the damage instantly.

The beauty of old SCH arsenal of DoTs was it was impossible to apply all of them perfectly. The 5 DoTs that I recall are:
- Bio I (18s)
- Bio II (30s)
- Miasma I (24s)
- Crossed Aero I (18s)
- Shadowflare (30s) - costing an Aetherflow & conflicts with Sacred Soil.

All have differing timing. All has to be cast under Cleric Stance. All has to be done within the constraint of 2.50s filler cast time. SCH’s DoT can also be spread at the cost of yet another an Aetherflow. There was also Miasma II that can be used as mobility tool + AoE gain but taxes their MP. Then there’s quickened aetherflow…

Oh joy…

I like the scholar (favorit healer, if i play a healer).
Fairy is cute. And, i like it more to raise a barrier who takes the dmg. As, to rely on the survival of the others and than heal the dmg.

And, i dont want a split between summoner and scholar. Its allowing me to lvl the summoner up at the same time, im lvling the scholar up (reason, why i have only little experience with the summoner, he is allways pulled with the scholar^^).

But to the skills can i understand OP a bit. I have trouble to see, when i should use the Seraphim or now the dress skill. Or the fairy HoT skill. It allways feels, as if the standard healing skills are enough for the fights.
