How is there so much maintenance on this game? Why is it always the same group of people that have to endure the downtime? Spread that shit out. It's ridiculous to pay for a game when there's so many days that I can't play it!!!!

Bug fixes, fixing a server or data center. Sometimes they have to do more maintanence due to things going on
I've noticed an unusual amount of players complaining about extreme cases of lag within my roulettes. It could have something to do with that. Or god forbid the most recent patch introduced a game breaking bug that people were exploiting. >.> Because that would never happen
Out of curiosity, I am not even attempting to excuse or justify it in any way, may I ask why this is an issue for a NA data center player? you are on Dynamis, and the maintenance is happening in the dead of the night, 11PM to 3 AM server time, for only 4 hours, that's not a whole lot for a very low activity time of the day, I'd understand if you were in EU(are they even in maint? I actually have no clue, I just cared about the part that affects me until just now), and if any EU players are affected, they have my sympathies, but this feels intentionally set as a time that would least impact players, at least on NA side.
Please understand, these are humans too. And in small indie companies like SQEX some things do not go according to plan. :)
Cheers
I suppose this is what Yoshi P meant when he said they have gotten to comfortable.
These maintenance downtimes have become a running joke with me. Cos its always happening when I want to play xD in the UK this downtime is 7am-11am. I wondered why they didn't do it at say 3am-7am... but they are prioritising NA then with these most inconvenient EU times. Wah!
What are you, 5? It's 4 hours. 0.5 percent of the month. Go do something else.
Someone got out of the wrong side of bed xD I went and touched grass, and servers are up now so wah [lots of lala noises]
small indie developer Idk though it's better that they take the servers down for maint then if they leave them up and we lose play time or our characters xD
There's ALWAYS a hotfix following a content patch, use that knowledge to plan your S ranks hunts windows
Maintenance times are what they are because for two reasons:
1. It's standard business hours in Tokyo, being 3pm at the time the game went offline
2. EST is the most densely populated time zone, thus impacting the least amount of players. It's also generally okay for PST as 11pm is usually bedtime for most on a Tuesday.
While it can be a little frustrating for EU, it's still early morning on a weekday, which is likely to impact people the least. So... deal with it?
Wasn't today's patch like 30MB? Bit extra to say you couldn't play the game all day.
Edit: you must be talking about the maintenance window. Which was a couple of hours on a workday morning, no offense to the jobless, it's not worth using an exclamation mark over
Maintenance in virtually all games is at that time because it's statistically the time when least people play around the world, so it inconveniences the least possible number of players. Almost the only people you see online at that time are either from OCE or they don't sleep at normal sleep hours. So I agree with the choice of time.
As for the emergency maintenance, obviously their QA missed things again. It seems to me like the most urgent issue was probably the one where someone outside of Forked Tower could trigger a mechanic inside of Forked Tower.
It was 4 hours in the middle of the night, your plogons are already back.
you understand there are different timezones right?
like yea, we all get it, it has to happen at some point. its going to be at jp afternoon during their work hours. it still sucks for those of us who constantly have the maintenance happen during our peak times. just let us complain jfc
and it just makes it feel like there is more, when they break up their patches to have multiple releases within a single patch window.
I understand different time zones are a thing, I also understand that I can see OP's World right under their name and that they are on Kraken, a Dynamis World server, which implies they lives somewhere in the continental US or somewhere in Latin America, which would've been the dead of the night for them, it's why I find the question perplexing this to be that much of an issue, and if OP is on EU and playing on a NA data center, I have different questions, but nonetheless questions.
How are there so many threads with this same question?
Yeah this is kind of the issue for me. There's a lack of proactive QA and planning that's kind of irksome.
You're literally complaining about complaining. At least the original personal complaining is paying for a service that's been kind of sloppy, lately. What's your excuse?
Op is totally valid for wanting them to spread the downtimes around a little. It's dumb that only one group gets hit by the brunt of these maintenance periods over and over again when they pay for the service just like everyone else. In my case, I work nights, so on my downtime I'm online at night. It sucks when they consistently pick those hours to take shit down, but i get why it happens that way.
Honestly I'm less mad about that and more mad about people in this thread who think anyone up late is just unemployed lol. You do realize not everyone works some bullshit 8 to 5 office job, right
strange complaint ngl. have you never played a live service game before, OP? that said, they have maintenance during hours that don't involve their team (fully located in JST, as SE only hires tokyo-based devs) doing night shifts. extremely avoidable night shifts. the maintenance affects JP players the most anyway, because it targets afternoon hours.
/e: which is to say that Japanese part-timers and college students are just as affected as EU players, if not more. i don't think your butthurt over a Japanese game being developed in Japan during Japanese business hours trumps their right to not have to pull night shifts, actually. tho i think they can do the thing cursed gachas do where maintenance gives you apologems. give me gold chocobo feathers after maint 8)
me when a game goes down for emergency maintanence to fi xsomething: *proceeds to open steam and plays 1 of the 50 games i have for a few hours, play league or take a nap*
I'll play devil's advocate and say: In Endwalker, they mentioned that they would upgrade both the server capacity and the equipment. But from what I see, according to the ongoing maintenance, it didn't happen.
They do upgrade it but they only take advantage of it in extremely specific ways. They clearly could make the server code take better advantage of it, because they just seem to do the status quo (adding lua scripts, excel tables, models, animations and textures with their development software).
It has nothing to do with the maintenances though. Those are due to QA missing things that subsequently needed fixing.
