We are reworking the jobs so your combo actions are one button. This massive overhaul to combat will arrive with the much awaited 8.0 update. We are also removing Healer roles damage dealing actions. And to compensate. Every attack in dungeons will become significantly more threatening to warrant the requirement of extra healing being capable from the removal of actions that go against the role of a Healer. We will also be buffing Dark Knights damage potencies across the board by 5,000% and Warriors Bloodwhetting healing potency is being reduced to 0.1 as we feel like it is too powerful again.
Please look forward to it.
I disagree at this point. FFXIV isn't a bad game. We just beat it. There's nothing more to look forward to I think. Endwalker should've been the end of the games mass appeal and Dawntrail a maintenance mode style patch. FF 17 should've been announced as the new SE MMO coming instead of maintain FFXIV as the Franchises main MMO.
Instead of reworking anything, keep it as is, and make a new MMO. It's clear NEW players really enjoy this and have a lot to look forward to. Veterans are just over this game because we beat it and are just playing it over and over again.
Companies that pump out MMORPG games do not create new ones, with the possible exception of EverQuest 2, which is itself getting old, and Final Fantasy XIV itself, which has hit the 12-year mark for version 2.0. [OK, I missed Guild Wars 2, which hit the 13-year mark this year].
World of Warcraft still cranks out new content after 21 years, and pretty much destroyed the world in a Cataclysm to introduce a new game engine ... The story changed a little bit, but there are still older expansions nobody plays anymore unless they're playing World of Warcraft Classic.
It also worked for Final Fantasy XIV. Once. They might pull off another game engine change, I suppose,
Re-skins seem to be popular as well (Blade & Soul Neo, I'm looking at you).
I imagine XIV is the fastfood job of the MMORPG industry. You're going to be making 100 FATEs that are all the same, reusing and recoloring old gear for rewards, working on MSQ cutscenes where characters just stand around and talk for 85 quests, etc and that will NEVER change, every day you go in and make "kill 15 rats" FATEs or the same ole ex fights with dynamo and chariots. Finding new blood may be the hardest thing for them because who TF would want to work there? That just sounds miserable.
Asmongold called out Kate during his stream.
The most important thing for XIV and for the franchise as a whole is to get rid of Yoshida but they won't.
We're not in a 1.0 crisis, so I wouldn't count on another overhaul coming in.
It's just a huge risk, without tangible payoff. They know that and they're not that desperate to try.
No. WoW still runs on the Warcraft 3-engine, but Blizzard modified and improved the engine heavily. And this is a thing, which SQEX never did. They improved the engine one time a little bit but then they stopped. And now, they are stuck in the past. Yoshi-P complains, that they have problems to hire software developers for the game. And it seems, he refuses to see why it it so. It has nothing to do with language barriers or so. FF14 still runs on DirectX 11. DirectX 11 is an API, which was discontinued in January 2013(!). No one will touch such an ancient and dead API if SQEX is not willing to pay high salaries for it. So they propably cannot improve the engine by a significant amount. I guess, this is the reason why you never see fresh things in the game because they cannot implement them. You see only modified variations of old things.
Cheers
Wishing people to lose their jobs is probably the lowest level I’ve seen here yet. The game isn’t doing great for a lot of people. But saying that a normal dev, who probably has no say in decisions, should just be replaced by ‘fresh blood’? If anything, it's probably the management and Square Enix that should be questioned.
Its comfy on that seat of yours, aint it?
*all these people who play XIV who don't know who Susan Calloway is*
Willfully ignorant to avoid the hypocrisy or new? You decide, reader!
Susan Calloway was Nobuo Uematsu's vocalist. She did the ARR, Heavensward, and Stormblood themes because he did those. She was already out before there was any backlash about her, she didn't lose any work from SE whatsoever. She was uninvited from a convention run by fans, not SE.
She was uninvited from a paying gig because of the usual suspects and the faux backlash will ensure that SE will not rehire her for anything because of said faux backlash. Glad we are in agreement. Unless you are saying that in an attempt to deflect the hypocrisy, but that would make you a hypocrite. I don't think you are a hypocrite though. /thumbsup
