Surely the playerbase is hurting enough that it's a bad time to be taking shots.

I'm not really ready for whatever kinds of player dips SE can cause (that aren't directly related to the content, or lack thereof, that they're putting out).

Agreed. Cease and Desists sent to every mod database, every mod developer, every third party tool site, and add horribly coded ring 0 anticheat that will probably brick CPUs. Create a dumpster fire of unseen proportions.

ARR nyahahah ascians was anime af, but it ramped up the writing later.

Next time Endwalker absolutely ruined it by adding boingo boingo sound-effects, magical girl Y'shtola and other anime tropey writing.
Dawntrail is just this weird continuation of that, the themes and the way people talk and act are just very anime melodrama, a far cry from the writing we received in Heavensward -> Stormblood -> Shadowbringers

Is it an anime game? Not really, but does it have extremely tropey juvenile anime dialogue, sometimes pretentious themes that anime goes to in a surface level manner because the manga writer read a philosophical buzzword once in a book? Yes

Let's be fair, the two are usually interchangable lol

And that is only going to get worse seemings SE is leaning hard into a more anime style graphically now, Calyx is pretty much just a manga character to the point that he looks weird compared to the other characters. It was mostly just because the game was Japanese and suffered from the worst of manga tropes before
