7.3 Appreciation Thread

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I think its important to recognise the positives in a sea of negative threads.

Apologies if there were many threads out there upon patch release discussing this - but the search function doesn't work for me to contribute to an existing thread.

I don't post much but I actually really enjoyed 7.3.

- I thought the new extreme was thematically, visually and mechanically really cool and the ff9 theme was something I recognised and enjoyed
- I enjoyed the MSQ storyline
- I enjoyed the villain
- I enjoyed the dungeon (specifically the mechanic where we split into different little arenas and have our own 1v1 boss fight experience of sorts) and the final boss where little Alexandrians are running for their lives before being obliterated
- I thought Jueno was pretty neat as far as casual alliance raids go
- I thought the MSQ had a taste of quest design that felt new and varied. Inspect the city, Fix the floor sigils, input numbers into keypad with clues etc. It makes a world of difference when quest design isn't entirely made up of "run to x, talk to x, inspect x, kill x"

This patch somehow felt like a bit of fresh air in an expansion I haven't enjoyed to date. It's fairly widely agreed that content is too thin and gap between patch dates can feel long - but I felt like this patch quality was actually pretty good (even if the content is limited).

Did you enjoy 7.3?

I too, appreciate 7.3. But only because it means the end of Failtrail and Insufferable Cat.
Hopefully the writers that caused this mess have been termed and won't be putting out another story that feels like they asked ChatGPT to "create a cute fantasy story with some middle american elements".

I also will be happy to say goodbye to wuklamat and the lizard people. You didn't enjoy the MSQ or the trial though?

I enjoyed 7.3 a lot more than the 2nd half of DT and the 7.1 and 7.2 patches.

I'm basically done though for my monthly sub, so I'll likely let it lapse until 7.5 or further. Have hope that 8.0 will be better.

Be better SE. This still isn't good enough. It's just one step towards that.

I don't praise poor performance, sorry. Doing 1 or 2 things correctly (battle content is more fun, uhh....idk the water looks better ig) doesn't make up for everything else being a pale imitation of the game when it actually was good. Like going into your favorite restaurant and realizing they serve stale McDonalds that was cooked 5 years ago (it's a ShB joke get it) but charging you the same price.

Before some weirdo shows up, yes, I unsubbed. Wait patiently, I will be around till then :p

I liked the conclusion of 7.3 really, it ended on a high note. Also, the WoL finally got to fight in a CS, which rarely happened in the past.

7.3 MSQ was good. Dungeon 2nd boss was a welcomed change in difficulty.

Ex was ok, took me 4 hours to clear from fresh, which is average for pf.

Treasure map are a bit unforgiving, Atomos were Ramuh'ed more often I felt. About 100 portals and only 2 clears so far.

Chat bubbles are the best addition in this patch.

I feel big fishes have very small windows for X.3.

CE changes are nice, looking forward to the next planet.

FT entry changes are nice too, makes 1 clear per hour more consistent.

Wished they changed the fortune carrots drop rates. Maybe in a future patch.

I like the treasure maps, they are still duo-able.
And the extreme was okay too.

Really enjoyed 7.3 and those msq puzzles. We need more of that !

Huge fan of the direction this patch is taking us, looking forward to whatever is planned for the future.

I like 7.3 and am looking sooo forward to the deep dungeon...!! I cannot wait!
Sadly that is the problem... the waiting ^^ by time it releases all the hype I have from PLL wanes...
This is what happened to Cosmic exploration and field operation... it is the first time I do not bother with big contents.


On bright side:
- I adore the little villain guy! He is cute and relatable.
- I like Sphene finally. I was not a fan of her since the introduction.
- I love the EX fight very much!!
- The new Alliance raid is more interesting, better story albeit it was dragged for too long at the end...
- The raid gear is finally good. I hated 1st alliance raid gear. Didn't bother with any of them. Gear=glam to me
- Story started off meh. Hard to keep focus but it became good and better as it went and I missed this a lot.
- MSQ finally ends with an actual cliffhanger. I need cliffhangers to get hyped for next big patch!
- I love the dungeon! I was able to do MSQ dungeon+MSQ trial with TRUST NPC without feeling frustrated. I was happy I wasn't the only one who sucked at dodging AOE and was able to laugh at the others taking damage while I did it correct. That felt very WOL=experienced after all feeling.


Beforehand, I felt legitimate embarrassed for taking so much damage/dying while the Scions did everything perfect. This wasn't supposed to happen, WOL is supposed to be the veteran!!! To add flaws in their system made me feel very relieved and kind of more "into the story", I would yell "Ah Alisaie over here!!" And laugh when she got hit. I felt very immersed. I hope they continue to work on adding flaws to their characters in duties so that we also do not feel like we have to play pikmin to do it (in Japanese it is ピクミン I do not know how to say it in english)

I think with the MSQ being so fricking boring, it's made me realise how monotonous everything else has become. Even when something new comes out I overplay it because i'm sick of doing the other content, so that too gets stale fast.

Yep - definitely enjoyed 7.3 here! Of course, I've enjoyed DT in general just like the rest of the expansions, so for me it's just continued par for the (good) course.

You're clearly beyond burned out at this point, but that doesn't make the game itself anything like you're describing.

Because not everything can be absolutely, utterly amazing? Because if you spend your life only being happy when something is an "A+", you end up being miserable most of the time entirely through fault of your own?

Personally, I like the baseball analogy. Not every hit can be a grand slam. It fact, in takes three people getting on base first before it's even *possible* for someone to hit a grand slam. Yeah, I'll cheer the "loudest" when someone hits the grand slam, but I still cheer and clap when any of the players get on base. I don't boo them or tell them they failed because they "only" got a hit. Given how DT is the start of a new story, I set my expectations appropriately that it would only be able to reach a 7 or an 8 (out of 10), and since that's exactly where it ended up for me, I've really enjoyed it.

This isn't a positivity only thread but could you elobrate on what you'd like to see or care to share anything you did enjoy for 7.3?

Is your probem with the quality of content, or with the content amount/content itself?

Yes please. Some of the Endwalker dungeons felt like a smooth bump in dungeon difficulty compared to what we had previously. It feels overdue for the bar to be raised in casual content (along with the rewards and replayability).
