Perhaps because it isn't the final product, but to be honest i was looking forward to upgrading my PC to play this beautiful new game, and it seems to be LOWER than that of 1.0. Anyone else feel the same way?

Why would they rebuild the graphics engine to get lower quality?
cause not all people got a awesome system to run 1.0, most of them are still on medium in wow lolololol
What screenshots are you talking about exactly? O_o Who actually LIKES spending money on pc parts. Shit is expensive ..
Cause they learnt that pretty picture doesnt gives you subscribers.
is it me, or we didn't see a proper video or screenshot to judge graphic ?
It's not a good business model to make a game damn near impossible for everyone to afford a PC to run. One way that is being helped is the PS3 release obviously, but it's a bit pretentious to go "I was expecting to have to upgrade!". Be realistic, if you want this game to be fun, it needs to sell well. If it's going to sell well, it needs to be within the range of playable by as many PC gamers as possible.
That being said, you can speculate all you want but you won't know what max graphical settings look like till you play it yourself. I do not expect the majority of players to notice any difference. SE has said the graphical engine has been "optimized" to meet the specs of the general population, I doubt they have lowered anything, just made improvements in certain area's.
There is also the rather obvious and standard fact that what we're seeing now are compressed images from a game that is not running at full settings.
2.0 is lower quality, that's so more people can actually play the game without having a super high-end PC. But they also do use better techniques so some thing it might actually look better and more enjoyable.
I don't think you guys know what you're talking about. Except you, Dark Mod. You seem to make more sense.
The gameplay video is with 70% optimisation and also on the lowest settings possible, remember this.
It's just you.

I don't know about all of you, but I thought the screenshots we've seen looked absolutely gorgeous. Less blatant copy/paste, interesting areas, looks great as far as I'm concerned.
If it is in fact of lower graphical quality, that's fine by me. Still looks great.
It's just you.
Not what it says here http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/08...xt-gen-consol/
While the graphics were scaled down for the lower end specs, the game still ran smoothly and looked quite impressive. "This is at about 70 percent optimization,"
It isn't a made up statement. There are developer quotes that say screenshots are taken in low res, partly because their systems are probably older than most of the consumers'. Quotes for you about optimization:
“We released some in-game screenshots at E3, but the graphics are still undergoing adjustments—expect to see higher quality at release. We’re working on dusk/night lighting and post processing as we speak.”
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/06/26...ises-producer/
"This is the version we showed to the press at E3, it's only optimized at 15% and the graphics quality are only at 85% so please keep that in mind, the definite version is actually far from this one. This is also his [Yoshida's] working laptop, so it doesn't have any special parts, and it's running quite smoothly."

Both of those are from Yoshida so...

There is a article on the engine and how scalable it on for future systems also.
"Yoshida went on to show the game running on a colleague's Sony Vaio laptop, sporting a Core i5 processor. While the graphics were scaled down for the lower end specs, the game still ran smoothly and looked quite impressive. "This is at about 70 percent optimization," he added."
Could you give us some examples of what exactly looks worse then before?Quote:
Is it just me, or does 2.0 look like it was a LOWER graphical quality than 1.0?

It looks fine to me. Perhaps they are just optimizing it. :D
Like, the only part of the new screens that I personally think looks worse is the lack of Depth of Field, but that's not something that's on by default in the current game. Give me that blurry distance, and we'll be fine.
I want to PAY square enix to let me help moderate the English forums. This community needs a bit more of an iron fist IMO. Threads like this one and the people that make them need to be disciplined in the form of temp bans.
Imagine if you will a new player slightly interested in the game, apprehensive about purchase based on the past of this MMO. They want to see how the community is, see what problems are actually coming up in game, and how the company responds.
They get to a thread like this or all those damn grass threads, or the jumping threads...
If these are all I see I'd be turned off from purchasing/playing this game. It's pathetic. Most people that would "step up" and call these posters out for posting blindingly idiotic threads and statements, don't even come to the forums anymore except to laugh at the people who type before they think.
It's like keyboard diahrrea in here.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OP. There should never be a time when people with personal grievances shouldn't be able to post about them in a calm way. The amount of duplicate threads mocking an innocent thread was far worse for people new to these forums.
No .
NO .
We have seen a grainy 13 min grainy cellphone video of pre ALPHA screenshots and gameplay. Think about that for a second....let the reality of it set in.
OP must have a Jump-to-conclusions mat. It makes ABSOLUTLEY no sense to post an UNFOUNDED concern about something that has been addressed MULTIPLE TIMES
AND IT HAPPENS CONSTANTLY ON THESE FORUMS.
And then folks jump to defend these folks. It's ridiculous. If you can't see the problems in this thread topic, and you instantly defend the OP when someone calls out the moronic threads that they've created, then your just as bad.
There are screen shot both pre Gamecon (teaser site) and of Gamecon's demo so the OP concern isn't unfounded. I can see the texture is lower quality, especially the ground. Still I know to keep in mind these might not be max setting and it's still an early build like most people pointed out. Post processing is where the eye candy comes in too. It's not something I worry too much personally, but definitely worth pointing out for those of us who love how nice 1.0 look and have enough horse power to run it.
I think the general render quality and perhaps poly count is down. Character models don't appear to be as detailed. If you read between the lines of E3 statements when asked about graphics quality they deferred to the tradeoff between quality and quantity of characters shown.
I like the new graphical interface. It looks a lot more colorful and varied. I wouldn't worry too much about textures and grass and what not. If the art direction is on the mark it can make up for lack of graphical quality. 1.0 looks great but as we know it is very repetitive, with 2.0 we are looking at more varied environments that can be scaled well to play on a Ps3 or low end computers. I think they have found a nice balance in the 2.0 graphics engine.
Honestly, the graphics are the last thing I'm worried about.
1. The Point of The new Engine Was to Allow the Game to Run on Lower spec PCs
2. That was an Alpha build
3. You don't run demos on Max Settings unless you know it wont crash
In response to the title of the thread: It's just you :p
They did the new engine to enhance graphics as well as make it so you wouldnt have to upgrade a PC to play it...in fact, it will probably run (or so they say) better thatn 1.0 does now on your PC^^
Yes, it is you. I saw the gameplay today at Gamescom and it is WAY BETTER than 1.0 and I am almost certain this was not the highest quality they were playing it at.
