Critical think

so I wanna know what do you think should be worked on or modified to make the game betteri speak about content mechanics of the game in itself. The bigger problem in short not the small thing.


for me it would be rather simple and it's Dawntrail story like nuke it and remake it I know the writers can do better and have the idea. Dawntrail as it stand right now is one of the worst story of the whole game there is moment where DT have good story bit but so far between that well it feel like a eternity to go thro.


Wuk Lamat in post Endwalker was better then the one in DT she absolutely doesn't feel like the same character at all not enough growth if not at all after all she doesn't even hesitate to kill her brother even her brother in the transition to phase to look at a ghost or whatever it is of his son and you see him hold back and hesitate!


like what the heck I am reading? I don't wanna be the main character at all but it felt wrong and poorly made. Majora's mask did better on that regard and it was made in a year time making it even more impressive so to me they don't have a excuse

The only thing i really wished would be harder classes i generally that every class has a unique idendity, not the shitshow they are currently.

thats really my only wish

well a other thing I also forgot OC for console and some low end PC seem to have massive framerate issues wish they could also work on that

They desperately need to focus on story and world building.
To me, DT went down the drain when I crossed that huge bridge, built by the giants of eld when they invaded the northern continent, only to find their mysterious doom. And what did I run into? The worst wild west scenario ever conveived. Cowboys duking it out the old fashioned way - with rubber bullets. Then a sci fi mega city, flying motorcycles, robot soldiers with laser guns, wrestling fights, and a copy pasta moon base that looks like they downloaded some cheap grafic set from the internet. What the hell were they smoking?

Move away from twitchy rote memorization and DDR encounter design to make room again for job and battle systems.
And make said battle systems actually interact again with encounter design like in a proper RPG. Right now we're just pressing buttons dealing damage while dancing frantically to the minstrel's tune.

Demonstrate they care about community

(I mean, I think I've been kidding myself. They make another instance like Chaotic, then they make REALLY sure casuals don't stand a chance of even getting in without involvement in a discord that only experienced hardcore players will be able to get approved to. I've been sitting here going, "what were they thinking?" I think they know 'exactly' what they were thinking. They were willfully caring only to seriously cater for high end. 'Every' indicator corroborates that but I just haven't wanted to think it. They will have known what that will continue to do to the community and gaming demographic. Not rational financial sense? Since when have people been rational?)

So now its come to providing compelling indicator otherwise.

• Deliver cross DC party finder. [care about stabilizing peoples communities]
• Fix the account privacy flaw. (rollback acceptable) [care about the interests of a vulnerable minority]
• seriously demonstrate that you accept that either you deliver real casual 'playable' content (not this press X to continue stuff in tribes, cosmic.), or if something has got to give it is the content for the minority not the majority (provided the minority credibly have the reasonable option to access and complete that content also), especially when it comes to new types of content. (not that casual is majority anymore) [give the casual community the intensive care needed to avoid driving the wedge any deeper]

But like I say, what we have seen goes beyond accidental oversight. To cast otherwise is a little delusional. So I'm now saying this to community and not to whoever in SE might take an interest. I'm actually happier believing it was deliberate. I can respect that more. Just wish they'd be more upfront about it so some of us can adjust quicker. "play other games" is too generic.

Agreed, this is my main complaint as far as combat content goes.
It's not hard to memorize but it sure is goddamn tedious.

These are all pretty solid things in their own right.

But to the be honest the heart of it for me is simple patch release schedule.. Like, obviously content is not developed overnight, but waiting a year into the release of an expansion to have some repeatable content is just not OK.

I know some games definitely have it worse, but for me it's one of those long-form versus short-form issues... Like some games I can go do content as old as this game itself, and still feel like there is some sense of actual progression there.

With this game that progression element is just completely lost because each patch may as well be effectively operating as a silo with how the content is released, and how the contents are structured.

I know there's valid reasons behind this, and unironically some decent reasons, e.g., catch-up mechanics, but then with how aggressive this is, it just comes at the expense of devaluing older content.

Second to this..... The game needs to feel like an MMO... It doesn't really feel like one, and there's a multitude of issues that go into this..

Tbf, the expac starts somewhat ok, it felt like they were aiming for a more light hearted approach compared to the emo show that EW was. But the moment you cross the bridge it’s just getting weird.

It reminded me of FF8 so much which I also hated for that specific reason where the game world loses all integrity towards the middle of the game, but for that game there’s at least a theory that the main character really died and everything after that point is a fever dream or illusion.

Yup and I loved every bit of it. Even if the story has a few plot holes.

I think they could make adjustments to the story in response to feedback. But without altering the actual plot. Just things that people have pointed out like Wuk Lamat being afraid of heights then jumping from great heights without issue, not repeating things as much, moving some dialogue from Wuk Lamat to the scions who understand the subject better, adjusting the part of the track that Smile starts at (if it started from the beginning it would be less obnoxious, but currently it starts midway through and blasts your speakers), more solo duties for things like cooking, the train part and Wuk Lamat winning the Alpaca. Send in a few more scions into Living Memory. Just stuff people have pointed out a lot.

They can't really reverse the story. Some people did not like the first half of the story, and some people did not like the second half, so not everyone's going to universally agree with eachother on which half of it was a problem.

I think another problem with it was that, according to interviews, it was basically a story about AI, how we will begin to make AI versions of ourselves (people are already) and then run out of earth resources to power all the past AI versions of ourselves. Which we are seeing play out with heavy investment in nuclear power for AI and companies like Google/YouTube frantically trying to delete the accounts of inactive/deceased users to help keep disk space sustainable. The fact this was the inspiration for the story but that it wasn't entirely obvious is maybe a problem, because instead of understanding the "point" of the story, a lot of people are wondering what it was all about.

Really another thing that would probably help people get through the MSQ at a higher rate is having characters voice act while following you around like many single player games do, as opposed to having to enter a cutscene.

One commonality in threads over the past few months is the question: "Who is this content for?"

It suggests SE does not understand its own player base. There is no simple fix to this, but a well-designed, comprehensive player survey would allow SE to gain a much better idea of what players want, rather than their current practice of asking a half dozen streamers.

This should be common practice in any subscription-based product, particularly when the evidence mounts that the studio is completely out of touch with the desires of its subscribers.

Calling it now, the liveletter will be the same formula, but they will also plug like.... two, no three different merch collabs.

This game is spiritually dead, we will see more game references, ff references and gundam forcefully rammed into the game at the expense of the worldbuilding, the story and whenever the writers can't solve something by READING THEIR OWN LORE, they will crutch it with dynamis or Sharlayan.

Thats the formula right now. Mixed with horrible anime humour and dialogue.

well most people including myself think 8.0 will be the last and well if 14 dies I don't bother with a other MMOs not gonna lie don't have the time for a new one x)

Only speaking for myself, but with respect to my confusion about what's been happening I think I've just been your average idiot. The devs are not stupid people. There are quite lot of them (even if they think they are just this small indie outfit with no resources), and there is a lot of experience.

They know what they are doing.

There is something weird going on. But it's not accidental.

MSQ rework is a given. I'm reminded of Stormblood insomuch that it feels like Alexandria and Tural are made by completely different teams. Alexandria's team is fine, Tural's is *not*.

But that aside, right now there's a *huge* focus on fight mechanics and "gotcha" moments, and the compensate, jobs are simplified to the point of being bland and uninteresting. Fights themselves are almost exclusively about memorization rather than execution. This is bad game design and needs to stop.

The entire game has been geared for progression raiding and it's suffered as a game because of that.

I wish they made classes unique as well, they are to braindead and easy, you can go thru dungeons spamming 2 button aoe rotation and just stand afk as mobs have 0 imapct on whats going on but be a silly damage spongy roadblock

I wish open world was more engaging, when i went thru the story, everytime there was a quest item to pickup inbetween mobs I put sleep on the mobs got the item and moved on as punching sponges with no reward hurt my soul, in no other game have I witnessed open world mobs be that useless than they are in FF14

They should include danger in savage/ultimates. When you can anticipate a certain thing happening everytime at the same time, its no longer a "hard" fight as you just have to run in a few times lol

that's often why I say savage and ultimate aren't hard because once you know the fight the hardest part is to do a decent rotation for damage like yes learning is hard but when you know the whole fight it is just a puzzle game nothing else really

It's still about execution, the execution is just entirely railroaded into one correct choreography.


And to a certain extent that is necessary, mechanics that are just a free for all "move somewhere that's not in the big orange bad" aren't very interesting.
But 8+ minutes of nothing but remembering to move to X in Y pattern when Z mechanic happens and everything else is basically on auto pilot is equally as uninteresting.

same like ya I aren't that old but you know I don't wanna give more time to a other MMO like I don't know I feel to old to redo everything. I am also sure that alot think like me I have put almost a full year online since shb I don't feel I could do that Toa other game over all. or just finding a game I will love as much as I love 14

So a while back, they committed to at least 5 more years. Then at the 10-year anniversary they committed to at least 10 more years. This is the timeframe Yoshi-P hopes to continue for at least.

FF11 is still around and even got another expansion after years. Their issues maintaining it were actually more about the lack of technology to maintain it with, and the fact very few people have the skills required to use their old technology. As such, they have switched to virtualization to make it somewhat easier, and are trying to get it to a point where more modern developers can work on it or switch between modern projects and FF11.

It also takes time for an established MMO to reduce enough in population. It's not as simple as next expansion, it's all dead. The fact people repeatedly and consistently claim they are quitting or dissastisfied here but then continue due to sunk cost, friends or housing should demonstrate that.

I recall there was a time when Yoshi-P said the more likely scenario, if it was necessary due to people thinking it was an "old game", would simply be to get FF14 and rebrand it as FF17.

Further evidence of their commitment is actually the graphics upgrade itself that is happening this expansion. They said this was the "first graphical update", suggesting a belief there will likely be a second one at some future date - not something an abandoned game would bother with.

Not so much abandoned, more so neglected and mismanaged

This is a key point because encounters that are designed this way tend to have a very short shelf life.

It's hard until you repeat the fight enough times that it becomes trivial... Then what happens with the content? Becomes a boring reclear farm, because not even playing a job at its skill ceiling is engaging anymore. And it's ironic because reclears would be the perfect moment to challenge yourself and try to get faster clear times by playing your job better. Yet there's almost nothing to look forward in that regard anymore.
