The Ever Growing Elephant: Summoner's Physick

I would like to state first off: I do have ideas of what I want in the future for summoners. However that is not a problem in current content.

Having started Occult Crescent, we all have noticed some issues. Like healers being unable to heal after raising someone or kind of forgetting to heal someone after raising someone. I've seen this happen, within parties, but player healer skill is something that I don't really need to address here.

What I want to address is that physick is absolutely laughable.

Why does is still scale off of MIND?

Now this all can be fixed by playing as a chemist, and I can just throw a potion on the people I resurrect. Or throw a potion on myself after I am rezzed. But, personally, I think I shouldn't have to be relying on my phantom job to be doing something that I already have a skill for.

There is no reason for Physick to have gone into Dawntrail still scaling off of mind. There wasn't even an excuse for it too scale off of mind in Endwalker, when it was remade!

I just think that, it would make a lot of players feel incredibly better about being able to play the class and not have to worry about anything, especially in Occult Crescent where I can be zooming along and find a dead body, or I need to rez people in a fate, and I can heal them semi-efficiently. Or if I need to heal myself.

I am sorry but the one every two minutes heal from Solar Bahamut is not enough, and I have been dying too much to even reach Phoenix on something resembling a sane timetable.

Either fix physick or remove it CBU3. Preferably in a minor patch. I don't see the point of waiting until 8.0. This is a problem that can be fixed now unless Physick scaling off of mind is like the coconut jpg of ff14.

they should just remove it. otherwise people gonna think they have to heal as summoner.... too many people like that in this game. even now i see high lvl summoner here and there using that skill

Exactly, RDM already spends too much time thinking they are an “off healer” and vercure actually has useful niches in downtime

Physick is just outright a trap if it was allowed to scale off intelligence, it should just be deleted

Even better would be making it actually useful, but yeah. >.> Can't see that happen, they even made sure we get Phoenix less often, because now we got that blasted Temu Bahamut.

Sure, it's really not an important problem by any means. I personally dislike "dead stuff" on principle, and I don't just mean things such as Physick but also effectively-dead stuff like skills always only pressed in one way hence providing 0 use or depth to combat and being no better than an autoattack, that kind of stuff. Hence it'd be nice if they at least remove Physick, but even better, make it interesting. For example it'd be cool if soon after becoming a Summoner, we get a trait that replaces Physick with "designate Physick target" and our carbuncle has an autoattack that heals that target whenever it's not busy with something else (which admittedly is not that often), and with normal pet scaling. It'd be minor healing even comparing Fairy Embrace, but it'd at least be something, and it'd be fitting we no longer do it ourselves.

That's what they did with many classes in this game. Just look at awful recent patch notes.

I disagree with removing physick like people said a lot here, yeah bad summoners will spam healing but because someone uses a ability incorrectly isn't actually a valid excuse for removing something.

Where a ability like summoner's physick can unironically shine is field content, fates, deep dungeons ect.

ikr, but calling this a elephant when the game is just a zoo full of elephant.

The only way I'd want them to buff it is to give it both int scaling and a mechanic like lillies and afflatus misery that makes healing dps neutral.

I would like to see Physick upgraded by a SMN trait to be more useful too. Of course it should scale off Intelligence even as an Arcanist, but I think it would be neat if the heal granted other party members a 30 second buff called "Reflect" and this would allow the Radiant Aegis Shield to be applied to them if used within the window. This would add a minor element of tactical planning to SMN that the job is sorely missing. If someone is taking so much damage you think Physick is needed than an extra shield is probably in order too. Being able to give it to multiple people in an emergency like both tanks for a dual tank buster after a healer death would be niche but fun. Spamming Physick in downtime to prepare the shared shield could be a real thing. Most of all it ties Reflect as an ability to Carbuncle and that throwback to the original summon usage makes me happy. As a later upgrade you could even make Physick reduce the cool down on Radiant Aegis by 5 seconds at level 50. Then for each expansion afterward increase the cool down reduction by one second as a trait upgrade. So 6 seconds in Heaven Ward, 7 in Stormbloob, 8 in Shadowbringers, etc. until it's a 10 second reduction in Dawntrail.

It's still a relevant heal at low level (petering off around the 35-40 mark where it's still not useless) which is nice for dungeon runs where your healer is a sprout and isn't as confident in keeping the tank alive. The reason it scales off mind is because it's not a SMN ability, it's an ACN one. Which branches into SCH, a healer. If they could cut it without imploding both jobs in their scotch-taped together 2.0 code they would've done it by now.

It's not integral to the SMN kit in any way, but it isn't completely useless 100% of the time. I even saved someone last raid tier with it, they survived a raidwide with ~200HP after I used it on them a couple times. Is that going to come up often? No. But it did. Much like the damage on SCH/SMN's autos it's almost vestigial, but isn't entirely useless and can make the difference between a wipe and a clear. It also heals a reasonable amount in Eureka with elemental gear which makes it semi-useful for soloing.

Just slap it on a tertiary bar for emergencies, it won't bite. Not like SMN has a whole lot of buttons to begin with.

Arcanist is a dps class up until the SMN/SCH split. They could just add it as a separate skill that does the same thing, and change the stat it’s using. After all, we have different versions of rez for the four healers, plus RDM’s Verraise. And with Lux, they’ve shown that SMN can have a strong heal based off its own stats, however inconvenient the availability of it is.

I would like SMN Physick to scale off INT and/or be the equivalent of Vercure or something like Second Wind. Not as good as a healer’s by any means, but good enough to keep you alive in a pinch. Otherwise it’s just sitting on my bar looking pretty. lol

Man this really is a merry-go-round. These sentiments echoing years after endwalker first brought the reworked summoner.

And I will echo my old thoughts on it to CBU3: Fix physick. Either a trait that grants it int+mind scaling, or after summoning a relevant summon (phoenix and now lux-bahamut) it grants stacks that let you heal for a higher and greater value with physick.

Actually this is outdated information. It used to be like that, the same action, SCH got their own instance of Physick (action#190 accodring to Garland Tools), while SMN got an ACN (action#16230) one still scaling with Mind, which was implemented in Stormblood.

So the game already sees them as two different actions (as it should!), and they just never adjusted it to work for SMN’s stats all this time!

Yeah, it is what it seems. In Stormblood they added this new instance of Physick to ACN/SMN and chose Mind for some reason. I keep asking myself, why even separate both Physicks then? Maybe they did want to fully separate SMN from SCH back then but nothing happened in that regard so... /shrug

it's still funny the director went out of his way to reassure players that physick wasn't being removed during the, i think it was endwalker media tour and they still didn't bother to make it useful. clown devs tbh

Thats because when they removed it and Sustain before, the community went mad and demanded it back. The stupid thing about it now though, is that back when that happened, Egi's still had HP so we needed it to heal them. Though why they put physick rather than sustain back i still dont know. Currently though, I think it should just go. Its utility, but to be honest, unless its there for job flavour, (like red mage) personally should just be removed. Same with the AoE heal we get from Shit Bahamut. Its hardly ever useful, so would be better if it wasnt there at all.

i just hope in 8.0 they add meaningful change to the job and not just "heres 3 new summons/demis/ upgraded spells that do exactly the same as the ones before."

It would be nice if (properly scaled) Physick could turn into the phoenix heal for <x> amount of seconds after you summon it... It was too often that the automatic healing it provided would go to waste.

I still think Physick should have some kind of interaction when Phoenix is summoned, same with rez.
